It didn't take them long to reach the first post. A dinged up old shack, with a few trail cameras, and a 'deer feeding' post.

As they approached the food post, they see it is empty. And Roy looks at a puzzled Kevin.

"The herd has been through here".

"Herd"?

"We call it 'Donna's herd'. She's been watching it since they first settled here". Kevin seemed.to understand.

"So how many posts is there"? Kevin questions.

"We go to three, but there is a total of fifteen. We cover over two hundred miles of wilderness. So there's no telling what can happen in that radius".

"I see. So how often do you do deer counts".

"You see, it varies. Once we see a increase, or decrease in a deer population, we have to do a field count".

"How many"...

"Herds"? Roy interrupts. And Kevin nods. "As many as thirty four, but we have counted over fifty".

"Oh Shit! How are we suppose to count all of those herds? And How can you tell them apart"?

"Each is varied by their numbers. Each herd has a different amount within them. So we can tell based in the number we count".

"Makes sense. Boy, do I got alot to learn".

"That you do. But don't worry, it only takes times".

"We got to check 'Meddingtin's' post. And then we are off to Chester creek".

"Then where"? Kevin looks ahead.

"Then back to post"

"Deer". Kevin points through the windshield, to see a few decent sized bucks. And Roy immediately noticed something off...

Bucks were territorial, and would vaguely be found together. And not only that, but the deer looked back at them...as if they were staring at them, as Roy and Kevin was staring at them.

"I've never seen this herd before. It must be new". Roy only stared, just as the bucks did to them.

After a moment of staring, the Bucks quickly break their graze, and scurry into the thicket of the forest. But Roy felt a feeling, one he never had before. Like the deer, it was new, and ominous.

Regardless, the deer they just saw had a different demeanor. And sooner or later, he would find out about the deer.

AND HE WASN'T GOING TO LIKE IT!
