Chapter 27: Prom night
Eyeliner, mascara, lipstick and I was done. Standing in front of the mirror, I saw a totally different person.
The bright yellow dress was off shouldered, revealing my shoulder blades and a little bit of my arms. The sleeves were long and ruffled with little white beads attached to the wrists.
It was a little tight around the waist, giving me an hourglass body shape. It reached a little my mid thighs, exposing my not so fresh legs.
They're long though, don't underestimate the beauty of those legs.
I used make up once again, my mini savior. I covered up the bruises on my legs and my shoulders.
I decided to go Cassandra and caked my face with so much make up. I did my eyebrows, concealer, powder, highlight, foundation, eye shadow, eyeliner, mascara and went as far as attaching lashes.
And damn, I did it so well.
Thanks to YouTube lessons.
"Someone's looking not so ugly"
I flinched when I heard Dylan's voice behind me. I could've dropped the lipstick if my grip on it wasn't so tight.
I first saw him from the mirror before I turned to get a better view of him. He had a black suit on which made him look more formal than his normal unserious nature. His tie hung around his neck loosely with the first button of his shirt open.
His hair was combed to the back and gelled to such perfection, there was no loose strand.
"Someone's looking not so stupid"
"You're just jealous cause you know Robert won't look as hot as I am tonight"
Well, he does in my imagination.
"And you're jealous cause you know Cassandra won't look as hot as I am tonight"
"Duh" He rolled his eyes "I'm not hiding the truth, you are"
"Yeah, whatever"
"I'm guessing Robert isn't coming to pick you up so we'll leave seven sharp, spend about four hours and get back before curfew by eleven"
Robert unfortunately didn't get a bus out of my imagination so I was gonna avoid Dylan and Cassandra as much as I could.
Too bad I was in a yellow dress with sparkling beads, he wouldn't have any troubles spotting me.
I sighed and gave the mirror one more look, smiling in accomplishment.
"Hey Cupcake, what's that on the table?"
I spotted the brown colored paper on the table right in front of the mirror. The one thing that happened to take my mind off prom but gave me thoughts worse than the problem in my hands.
At first, I was caught in between disposing it or keeping it to myself.
I had no idea where or how she got so much money. I mean, I had never made that amount and neither had she.
She must've stolen it or something.
Not judging but it was quite a lot of money.
What I didn't understand is why she hit me with a baseball bat after I decided to leave then give me enough cash to sustain me for years.
Was that also an effect of schizophrenia or just her being abusive and supportive at the same time?
It took hours to think about it and then I made a decision.
Yes, I thought about Cassandra's mean but truthful remarks earlier and it made a huge impact on the decision.
I planned on leaving Dylan's house the next day.
Yeah, I know. I shouldn't think about it cause Cassandra is such a bitch but bitches might be truthful at times.
The money was enough to help myself to college and whatever happens after, happens.
It's not like my story is gonna end with an happily ever after anyways.
"Cupcake, are you alright?"
"Um, yeah, yeah" I cleared my throat "There's something I want you to know, Dylan"
"You wanna leave cause Cassandra made you feel like you're such a problem and the money your mom gave you, or threw to you, whatever would get you a house or something?"
The fuck?
"Cassandra told me she told you all of that and when I tried to talk to you, I saw you walking out of school looking like every fast food restaurant in the world has been destroyed by an earthquake. Long story short, I followed you and saw your throw you that."
"First" I started "I'd be dead if every fast food restaurant is destroyed by an earthquake and second, you followed me?"
"Yeah. If you were such a problem to me, I wouldn't have cared. I won't let you leave, cupcake. Not till you marry the alien of your dreams and he takes you to Mars, hopefully"
"I'm not gonna marry an alien, you idiot."
"Whatever. The point is, you're not gonna leave here, not on my watch and if you do leave, I'll be forced to call the cops"
.~*~.~*~.~*~.
So, Dylan made me pay a dollar as rent for a lifetime in his house.
Yeah, that's it. No questions asked.
Moving on, we drove to Cassandra's house and then I figured out she had a brother and I knew just who he was.
David.
You know, he weird hover board guy with an helmet and juice box.
It was a shocking discovery.
His sister was a Barbie wannabe and he was the complete opposite, totally weird if I might add.
And guess what, he had his hover board and an helmet, yet again. The only difference was that he had a suit on.
He didn't wear a shirt beneath it nor did he have a tie around his neck. Just a suit and his chest on display.
Cassandra wore a red spaghetti strap dress delicately adorned with red jelwels, a shiny glass purse in her hands, golden bangles around her wrists, face cakes with excessive make up and heels as high as her IQ
Just kidding!
Come on, don't tell me you believed it.
"What is she doing here" Cassandra said for like the millionth time, rolling her eyes whenever she said it.
"Cause she's going to the same place as us, so is David"
"Or her date is way too poor to afford a car"
Oh, she did not just say that.
Robert is way richer than she was and yes, he had quite a lot of cars, really big and expensive cars.
How dare she say such to my billion dollar boyfriend?
"It's not that Casand_ you know what? Just drop it"
She huffed and sank into her seat, glaring at me through the front mirror. I gave her a three second googly eye session before looking away.
What? It's not like I would just stare at her.
"Would you like to know a secret?" David whispered beside me, starring at me wide eyed.
I sighed and nodded "Yes, I'd like to know a secret"
"My shit looks like a flamingo, like all the time"
"Wow, what a secret?" I gasped, placing my hand on my chest for extra effect.
"Yeah, do you think I should visit a doctor?"
"You can do whatever you want boy"
"Okay" He whispered and sunk back on his seat. "Okay"
"Yeah_"
"What do you think about my makeup Diana?" Cassandra cut me off, probably as an effort to show off her make up.
Is there a proper way of saying I don't care?
"It's so pretty" I tried to say dramatically but it unfortunately came out with a bored tone "Did James Charles help you with it?"
"No silly" She giggled "I had to put in a lot to cover the hickeys I got from Dylan yesterday"
"Wow, what an effort?"
"Yeah, that's something you didn't put into yours"
"Yeah, it's also something you didn't put into your intelligence" I replied, earning a suppressed laugh from David who was oddly sipping from a juice box.
Dylan turned off the engine as soon as we pulled up in the parking lot.
It was basically the first time I had seen it so full in years. We got one of the fewest spaces left in the lot filled with all sort of cars.
"I knew it! You're just here cause you wanna make my life hell_"
"Yeah I'm out of here" I mumbled, pushed open the door and exited the car.
I walked away before any one of them could get out, just because I didn't want to hear Cassandra rant.
I mean, she had such a beautiful name, why choose to be a total bitch?
The entrance was decorated with blue and gold balloons, probably the theme for the year and smoking machine releasing thick white fume and blocking the event going on inside.
Speakers blasted loud music, loud enough to be heard from the parking lot.
A few people were at the entrance, most in pairs and well, just me alone.
"I have an idea" I heard a familiar whisper from David behind me "What if fart is kept in that machine stuff_"
"Smoking machine?"
"Yeah. So much fart compressed into it and then is released poof!" He used his fingers as an effect "Into the air"
"What is wrong with you?" I whispered and slowly walked away, leaving him stuck in his weird imagination.
I took slow steps into the building and all I have to say is, damn.
They took prom to another level.
.~*~.~*~.~*~.
"Hey bitches!" Esther squealed, running towards us with a bright smile on her face.
And no, she wasn't in a pretty little bright coloured dress like most of us. It was classic of Esther to walk into prom with a tight leader black dress that of course, showed off her curvy body.
Black boots adorneding her feet and her hair styled into a sleek ponytail, she definitely looked badass.
She wasn't the kind to hug, unlike Natasha who hugged me the moment she spotted me.
Natasha wore a pink short dress, tight around the waist and puffy everywhere else. Her slim long legs were displayed and with silver stiletto heels, she topped it off.
She didn't apply so much make up, just lip gloss and eyeliner but she looked pretty cute with her natural face.
Her hair was extra curly and frequently fell across her forehead.
"Woah, you look hot" I complimented "You're gonna have a lot of guys trailing behind you tonight"
"Yeah, then they'll forget me the moment I'm out of this"
"At least, you'll enjoy the moment" Natasha added "If you like the moment, that is"
"Definitely not going to. It's gonna be Diana and I tonight, single ladies on the dancefloor"
"Yeah" I laughed, reminding myself how much of a mess I was in "Single ladies"
"Well, I have a date so I guess I'm not involved"
"Um, I need to use the toilet real quick" I smiled, placing the red cup on the decorated table. The punch was still halfway full. I had taken only a few sips, probably because of the guilt strangling me.
"Yeah, whatever. Just get your ass her when you're done"
I turned and left, internally searching for a perfect place to stay till the prom would be over.
I didn't want to stay with the girls, sadly, neither did I want to see Dylan.
At all.
"Cupcake?"
Fuck you life. Fuck you.
"Hey!" I squealed, turning to the voice of Dylan behind me.
It was just a few minutes into prom and his hair, which was previously combed, was messy.
It was the good kind of messy, however.
Just saying.
"Where's Robert?"
"Using the toilet. His bladder got full and you know what you do when the bladder gets filled? You pee!"
"Oh" he said awkwardly "My date isn't here and yours isn't either so it wouldn't hurt to dance, would it?"
"Yeah, not till your date takes it personal and decides to burn me"
"It's just a dance" He replied and before I could reply, he was leading me to the dancefloor, my hands in his.
No, I'm definitely not gonna say butterflies in my stomach cliche shit so deal with it!
Dylan took the first move and placed his hands on both sides of my waist, drawing me a little closer to him. My eyes were glued to the ground cause, duh, couldn't afford to turn to a tomato.
I placed one hand on his shoulder a_
"What the hell?!"
We tore apart the moment we both heard someone yell behind us.
Cassandra.
The music stopped suddenly with the sudden outburst. Everyone stopped dancing, frozen in one position and starring at the Cassandra, probably waiting for the drama about to unravel itself right in front of them.
It was as if the party paused.
We had every eye on us, everyone's attention was focused on us.
It wasn't normal, the music couldn't have stopped because of that.
Except it was all planned.
"There's no need for this Cassandra"
"Oh there is" She said to Dylan "Everyone needs to know who she truly is. You all think she's the cute lovely Diana. Well, here's Diana with the prank king she so despises trying to get into his pants for money. Here's the Diana who moved into his house cause her mother saw how much of a slut she was and tried to kill her. Here's the Diana whose father also left cause he couldn't keep up with her. Here's the Diana who lied to you about her dumb date that doesn't even exist. Yeah, news flash, there's no Robert. Just another one of her stupid lies"
