Locked in the library Part 2
Ranbir burrowed his face in her fragrant hair and inhaled the lemony perfume that was quickly becoming his favourite perfume along with the discreet jasmine perfume she wore.
Prachi had never felt safer before. She felt a very strong sense of security in his embrace. Soon, both the trepidation and the feeling of security were washed away by a newer and stronger emotion. As he burrowed his head deeper into the thick, dark mass of her hair, his warm breath on her nape began to play havoc with her senses.
An emotion way stronger than him was urging Ranbir to follow its diktat and her proximity was undermining his defences. He was so close to her. If he would just burrow a little deeper his lips would touch her nape. The urge to kiss it was growing stronger within him by the second.
Prachi, too, wasn't untouched by the intensity of unnamed emotions. The scorching intensity of his emotions was reaching out to her too.
Ranbir would have given in to the ceaseless urge had a loud metallic clang not brought them back to reality and caused Prachi to immediately pull away.
Ranbir beamed as he witnessed the lovely blush that crept up onto her face, colouring the beautiful features with an endearing scarlet hue.
Prachi was very embarrassed and awkward and it hindered her ability to behave normally with him or to even meet his eyes for that matter.
Ranbir smiled at her endearing embarrassment and decided to lighten the ambience and help her return to her normal self.
Ranbir's chuckle drew her attention towards him and she cast a fleeting glance at his handsome features.
"Why are you laughing?" Prachi still did not quite meet his eyes.
"One moment you declared that you are afraid of nothing and the very next moment you went ahead and proved yourself wrong?" Ranbir guffawed.
Prachi's mouth fell open in disbelief. He was such an insufferable idiot.
"I wasn't afraid or anything. It was just that that loud noise out of the blue startled me." Prachi immediately went on the defensive mode.
Ranbir grinned as he could clearly see that his tactic worked and he had successfully distracted her.
"Oh no Prachi. You were not startled. You were scared.SCARED." Ranbir decided to tease her some more.
"No, I was not." Prachi refuted obstinately.
"Yes, you were." Ranbir was having so much fun riling her up.
"No" Prachi refused to give in.
"Yes" Ranbir too wasn't ready to give up.
"No" Prachi was adamant.
"No?" Ranbir changed tack to catch her off guard.
"Yes." Prachi fall right into the trap.
"See. That was what I was saying. You argue unnecessarily,Prachi." Ranbir's sober expression melted into joyful laughter seeing her furious disbelief.
However, soon even the amusement turned into a grimace of pain as Prachi pinched him on the arm, hard.
"Ow! Prachi!" Ranbir flinched.
Prachi made a funny face at him and trotted off towards the window to examine the source of the noise they had heard earlier. Ranbir stood messaging his arm with a stupid grin for a while, and then sauntered off after her.
The metallic clang they had heard was caused by the holder of a lamp that had toppled over the edge of a shelf. Though the holder did not sustain much damage except a slight dent, the glass body had shattered into numerous pieces.
Prachi knelt down and tried to inspect the damage. After stowing away the metal body, she turned her attention to the broken pieces of glass. However, before she could even touch them, Ranbir was by her side and was pulling her away from the glasses.
"What are you doing? Are you crazy? You will cut yourself."Ranbir chastised Prachi
Instead of getting furious, Prachi was stunned by his care for her. He cared that much for her?
Ranbir was bemused seeing her staring at him with a pensive expression. He had expected her flare-up for calling her crazy and not to find her deep in thoughts.
"Hello? Are you there? What are you thinking chikchiki?"Ranbir wiggled his fingers in front of her.
"Uh...nothing. Just thinking of a way to get out of this library." Prachi evaded his eyes.
Her refusal to meet his eyes made it clear to him that she was lying. He could pester her till she gave in or fuel her anger till she blurts out what she was really thinking, but he preferred to wait until she herself would tell him.
"So? Have you come up with any way?" Ranbir raised his brows.
"No. Nothing." Prachi grimaced.
"Don't worry Prachi. We will get out of here." Ranbir tried to assure her.
"When? Tomorrow morning? In full view of all those students who will get yet another opportunity to make me the fodder of gossip?" Prachi sighed resignedly and trotted off restively.
Her words made him realise the selfishness in his actions. In his yearning to spend some time with her, he failed to realise that it could have far reaching consequences and that her reputation would be maligned if they discovered the morning after, together in the library after a whole night.
For him, her reputation was way more important than his desire to spend time with her. Making sure that she was not looking his way, he slipped behind a shelf and texted Aryan to come after an hour and get them out of the library and also forbade him to ask any question at the moment. After receiving Aryan's affirmation, Ranbir slipped the phone back into his pocket.
Ranbir then trotted off to find Prachi and found her crouching in front of the door, engrossed in her inspection of the lock. When Ranbir tapped her on the shoulder, she straightened with an abrupt jerk and her head hit Ranbir's nose who had bent his head a little to see what she was doing.
"Ow! Ow! Ow! Ow! Kill me, why don't you?" Ranbir grimaced in pain, covering his nose with his palm.
"Sorry! Sorry! Show me Ranbir. Remove your hands." Prachi tried to pry off his hand tentatively.
"Aah! You broke my nose! How will I show my face to everyone? Why don't you try the door with your head? You will definitely breakthrough. Even a coconut will feel like a sponge when compared to your head."Ranbir groaned in quite an exaggerated manner.
"Ranbir! Stop your histrionics. And let me see your nose."Prachi slapped his hand away in her usual no nonsense manner and examined.
"Your nose hasn't even reddened." Prachi stared at him suspiciously.
"Haw! Prachi, you think I am lying? Here I am dying with pain and you think I am lying? Poor me."Ranbir sighed theatrically.
"Ranbir! I didn't mean that. Is it paining too much." Prachi lightly ran her index finger over the bridge of his nose.
"Not anymore." Ranbir smiled, exhilarated by her care.
Bemused, Prachi looked up at him, wondering why he was so happy all of a sudden.
"But you will still have to compensate for the hurt you have unconsciously inflicted on my poor nose." Ranbir frowned while rubbing his nose.
"Ranbir! You are incorrigible! Okay, what do you want?"Prachi grinned.
"You." Ranbir's reply was instant and involuntary.
Prachi's grin faded slowly and was replaced by a slightly shell shocked expression.
"To dance with me." Ranbir added hastily.
"You were talking about dance?" Prachi's relief was palpable.
"Yeah. What did you think?" Ranbir made an innocent face.
"Oh...uh...nothing. But how can we dance? There is no music. My phone is dead and yours is in the car." Embarrassed at her wayward thoughts,Prachi instantly changed the topic.
I meant exactly what you thought, Prachi.
Ranbir grinned as he confessed silently.
"I may not have my phone with me right now, but my Ipod is right here. And you have run out of excuses." He patted the left pocket of his jeans.
"I wasn't giving any excuses. I'm ready if you are." Prachi smiled.
"Always." Ranbir smirked smugly and fished out the ipod from his pocket.
Choosing a song from the long list, he played it and extended his hand out to Prachi, who put her own smaller one in his. His fingers wound around her hand as he pulled her closer.
