Grey Mad World

Walking was tiresome, especially so early in the damp streets right after the night, the sun only peeking over the horizon, scared of its journey across the sky of such a broken down world.

The concrete forest had seen better days. Windows of each building were cracked and broken open, barely one stood untouched, their frames and walls much alike. No one lived around here, no one smart anyway, they all evacuated to one of the few running cities, or went to the small... 'olden day' villages. No power source had set a lot of them back, almost as if time had reversed upon itself, taking a few of them with it.

His legs hurt, which was an understatement, but he wasn't one to complain about the situation. Was taught to take everything in, just keep in mind what you have. He continued to force himself on, desperate to get himself out of here before a patrol would come by, he wasn't in any shape to run, if he had to he'd stumble over himself.

Taking a breath the mist slightly obscured his vision for a second or two, blue eyes scanned his surroundings. He wasn't considered human anymore, which was why he wanted to get out of this place, abandoned or not.

Years ago, people had found a substance they call 'Ink' a power source that was much stronger than previous ones, and the only substitute they had after running out of previous ones. This would have been fine, if only it wasn't the blood of people.

Sure, they weren't considered humans anymore, but nothing had changed, they acted and looked the same, but the only thing was they had a creature that hid within them that was called a 'virus'. That's what turned their blood into that... ink.

He stopped, staring ahead of him. Sat there on a slab of cement in the middle of what looked to be polluted water was another human. They were small, wore a deep violet hoodie with one sleeve ripped off, a long grey cloth 'sleeve' coming out from underneath as a possible replacement. They weren't facing him but from what he could see they wore brown cargo shorts, albeit dirty, but they didn't look to be in too bad shape, but what struck him was the skin of their legs, a deep black such as ink.

"InkBlood..." He muttered to himself.

He walked, clearing his throat then calling out.

"Hey! Who are you..?" He spoke aloud, his voice faltering at the end from lack of use. They spun around now on their knees, dark skin and rust coloured hair, eyes hidden but seemed as if they would be wide.

Before he could say anymore, a large creature sprung out of nowhere, large forearms splitting into giant claws and heading straight for him, he was too tired to react or run, even yell out in horror. A creature smaller in size blocked it and kept it away, his virus, one he had called 'Sharktooth', the two continued to attempt to throw each other or slash at each others supposed weak spots, occasionally making noises indescribable to him.

Then there was the yell, the larger one instantly stopped and turned to look at the girl, that was her virus, protecting her host.

"Artemis no... That's enough..." She sounded tired, almost miserable if he had to say it.

He gently called Sharktooth back to him, hoping the other virus wouldn't see him as a threat. She looked over at him.

"You're like me..." She spoke, voice weak. He knew what she meant, and had to take a breath to speak again.

"Yeah... I'm like you... your name? I'm Hedley."

"Dolly."

"Well, Dolly. How about we get out of here?"
