Chapter Twenty One: Finn...?, what about Finn?
Why didn't Robin believe me?, is it really so far fetched to think my father just may be The Controller. I mea...
I'm pulled out of my thoughts by my father entering our home, along with Bates and Barney. Ughh I wish we didn't break them out of jail, I wish we just left them there.
"Hello, Maxwell", I'm greeted by my father.
"Hi, Father, did you get the maths papers at the college you were looking for?", I ask my father.
No I wasn't going to get papers, I never forgot them in the first place.
"Yes, got everything I need now, may not actually want to be a maths teacher but I need to play the part", my father said with huff as he sat down on the sofa.
"I have... some homework to do myself, so I'll be off...", I said looking for an excuse to leave, it wasn't entirely a lie.
"Oh, you don't have to do that anymore your off the mission,", my father said never once looking up at me from the papers he had layed on the table.
"WHAT?!?, why?", I shouted, instantly regretting my tone.
"Because I said so Maxwell, you weren't up for the task so I got someone else to do it, he's someone we needed for the plan anyway,", my father said surprisingly more calm than I expected.
"What?, that kid in your maths class with the power to read fears and stuff?", I questioned him, being careful to watch my tone of voice this time.
"Yes, him", my father said still not looking at me.
"He's their friend... he'd never spy on them willingly,", I said as I looked down at my feet, not wanting anyone to see my sad expression.
Exactly not willingly
"What's that's supposed to mean? Exactly not willingly?", I said not realising I had reacted to his thought not something he said.
"I never...", he said this time looking up from his papers, "I never said that, did you read my thoughts?", he said in a tone that implied he was making a statement rather than asking a question.
"Uhh, it was accident!," I say before trying to leave, but I'm stopped by an arm on my shoulder, I'm startled and I turn around to be face to face with my father.
"I thought we agreed we you wouldn't do that,", my father said with anger in his voice.
"I can't control it ok, I'm not you I don't feel the need to control everything in my life", and with that I leave.
————————————————————————
It's been a couple days since the house fire, and I'm still looking for any clues on this paper we found I'm amazed the police just gave this to us. Well when I'm saying I'm looking at the paper I really mean Jemy is and I'm sitting next to her listening.
"I don't think we'll be able to be lucky enough to find any fingerprints, or much forensic evidence anyway, not any that will be able to be found by a second year forensics student in her best friends Treehouse/Superhero base anyway, it annoys me that the police just gave this to Ro!", Jemy says moving her gaze from the paper to me.
I turn to the sofa to see Ro laying on it staring up at the ceiling again, looking like she's contemplating life, which to be fair given current circumstances, she probably is.
"Yo, Ro you ok?, looking deep in thought there,", I ask making my way over to her, Jemy stays on the desk with the paper but still watching over as I walk to Ro.
"I am", she says without moving her gaze from the ceiling.
"Mind me asking what it is your thinking about,", I ask not wanting to push her to hard.
"Oh just the fact that, my house burnt down and I'm currently living with you, I appreciate that by the way...", I nod at that statement, " then there's the fact my childhood best friend who blames my for his mother's death is back in my life, who hates me once again because for a split second I thought I didn't believe him that his father was the most famous criminal in Eternia Heights, oh and then there's Finn...", she mumbles that last bit, but I just about caught what she said.
I raise an eyebrow to her and smirk, "Finn...?, what about Finn?".
Not noticing my expression , "... he's acting odd, likes not himself, it's weird... hard to explain...", she's interrupted by a voice by the door of the Treehouse.
"What's hard to explain?",Finn asks leaning up against the doorframe with his arms crossed.
"Maths", Ro shouts,
at the same time as I shout "Life"...
And then there's Jemy who shouts, "the physics of the dimensions of the TARDIS, that makes it bigger on the inside,".
We all just look at her dumbfounded and the sentence she just spouted. She just gave us all a sheepish smile.
Finn just looks confused, "ooooook, so what's the plan for today?".
"We are looking for clues on who could have left this paper with Ro's info on it, and why they possible find out why they burnt down Ro's house!", Jemy said before turning round to look back at the paper.
"Well that's what Jemys doing, me however I just have no clue, I've been looking to see if CCTV had any luck getting a look at the woman leaving the scene at the other houses", I said making my way back over to my desk and computer.
"For someone afraid of technology, you sure seem to have a knack for it, don't ya Jack," Finn said with a wicked looking grin. Perhaps Ro is right, there is something off about him.
"Uhh, yea confronting my fears and all that," I reply confused why he would comment such a thing knowing I don't want the others to know the truth about my powers.
"Who knows you'll be getting phone next!", Finn says with a chuckle and that same grin.
This whole time Ro has been very silent just staring at Finn, like she's trying to solve a puzzle, that's something they both have in common the same puzzling look about them.
Finn noticed Ro's silent behaviour, " You ok there Ro?", he turns to look at her as he asks.
"Just peachy,", she says as she moves her gaze to me. We lock eyes and silently agree...
... somethings not right about Finn.
