HI I'm sorry it has been so long! I have a new update and also an announcement. After thinking about it, I think I am going to change the name of the book to Powerful. I'm sorry if this confuses anyone but I think I like it better! Also I am going to need a new cover for the book if anyone has any ideas or wants to message me about it! I hope you like the chapter!!
I wait a couple of seconds before grabbing the plate that had the fruit and snacks on and wash it off and put it away. I decided to see if Ella is still sleeping because it's been an hour or so.
When I get to our room I see her sitting up in her crib just looking around.
"Hi pretty girl, did you have a nice nap?" I ask while picking her up.
She smiles up at me and tries to talk, though she doesn't always make correct sentences yet.
"Can we play?" she asks. I put her down on the floor and sit near her toys.
"Yeah sure what do you wanna play with?" I start picking up her toys and handing them to her. She throws them on the ground and bolts towards the door.
"Do you wanna go outside?" I ask while following her. She only makes a small squeal and heads towards the stairs.
"Woah there lets slow down." I grab her hand and guide her down the stairs while walking backwards, to catch her in case she falls. It takes a long time until we get to the bottom floor, especially because she wont let me pick her up. Once there I walk out the front door but strangely don't see anyone there. Yesterday there were people everywhere, now I can't see a single soul in sight.
I look around while Ella walks around the front yard in the grass. To my right coming from the town it looks like a big dog is walking down the street. As it gets closer I can see it looks somewhat sick and is foaming at the mouth. It starts to sniff and looks up when it smells us. Its eyes are dark red and it growls a little and picks up its pace. I quickly pick up Ella and when I turn it is significantly bigger and closer and now that it isn't in the distance I realize this thing is closer to the size of a bear than a wolf. Its shoulder would come to the top of my head standing straight up.
Not wasting any time I take Ella and face the house, but she has wandered so far into the yard that the dense forest is closer than the house and if I try to reach the house the wolf could possibly beat me there and I would be running towards it and not away from it.
Without another though I turn and head for the woods. I have a better fighting chance with some cover and my abilities if need be.
I can hear the thumping of paws after me and I pick up the pace as much as I can. Ella is starting to cry in my arms and my panic increases.
We only make it to about fifty feet into the woods when I realize the wolf is gaining on us. I can now hear its heavy breathing and the thumping of its paws are louder. I take a sharp turn to the right dodging trees before I quickly stop, put Ella down behind a thick tree.
"Stay here Ella, hide and seek okay? Stay here." She just looks at me and sits down against the tree.
"Good," I say and stand up and run around the tree. I look at the wolf approaching us now in between the trees. I see Ella out of the corner of my eye trying to peak around to what I am looking at.
"No Ella hide!" I quickly say. I see her head disappear but I can hear her start to cry.
I look around and notice another huge tree about ten feet from where the wolf is approaching. I quickly run to the other side and brace myself. In one quick swing I put all of my power behind a punch straight into the side of the wolf. It sends him flying in the air and straight into the tree when I hear a crack and the wolf goes limp at the base of the tree.
I turn around to head back towards Ella when I see her out from behind the tree with her back facing me, staring at a huge wolf in front of her.
"NO!" I quickly yell throwing my hand out. Before I register what has happened I see a bubble fly from my and that goes around Ella, and makes her float in midair. I can somewhat see the outlines of the bubble and it has a bluish tint to it, although it is mostly clear. I look from my hand back to Ella. I have never been able to send the protective ability to someone else before. The wolf is staring from me to Ella sort of confused. This wolf is slightly bigger than the last and Ella would have been swallowed whole. The only differences I immediately notice is this one doesn't look sick. It has black hair and looks perfectly healthy and even strong.
A whole five seconds has passed since I turned around and I just have my arms out waiting for what this wolf will do. I don't want to knock it out like I did the last one, but I will if I have to. It focuses down at Ella and looks sort of confused, if that's possible for a wolf.
It reaches it paw out to try and touch her and I quickly throw my hands out and pretend like I am pulling an invisible rope to use my ability to move her back towards me. The wolf jumps a little startled and looks up at me.
Once Ella is in front me I reach out towards her, through the bubble, and pick her up. The second she is in my arms the bubble disappears and I can feel a small pressure in my mind release.
I move Ella around on to my back and tell her to hold on, keeping my eyes on the wolf the entire time. It only stares back at me and doesn't move a muscle.
I slowly back up, one hand behind me to help keep Ella up, and the other in front of me in case the wolf decides to charge. I watch as it slowly lays down and puts its head down. I stop mid-step. This is so weird. One wolf doesn't hesitate to try and kill us and another one is just laying down.
I start walking again and pick up my pace. I turn around to begin to run, always looking back every couple of seconds to see if it changes it's mind and comes after us. Once I can no longer see the wolf, I turn around and run as fast as I can back towards the pack house.
Or what I thought was the direction of the pack house.
-----
About an hour later I can come to the realization that I have no idea where I am and it is just around sunset. I have turned and tried to double back so many times I just don't know where I am anymore.
I hope Jason or someone from the house has noticed us missing but I doubt anyone has. I sit down with Ella who is sniffling a little bit but has calmed down from earlier. I lean against a tree.
"Its okay, we will find our way out. If not Jason will come for us," I hug her and try to reassure her, but I am doubtful myself. How many miles of woods are there for me to have been wandering for an hour and not find my way out.
I worry that these woods have dozens of more wolves and I am not prepared to have another encounter with one, sick or not.
We sit there for a couple minutes and I play patty cake with Ella while constantly looking around.
Twenty minutes go by and I go to stand up again, to keep walking. At some point I have to get out of these woods, they can't go on forever and Ella has to be getting hungry soon. This time I let her walk but I am holding her hand so she doesn't wander off. The woods is making it darker a lot quicker. I look up and I can see the sky is pink and the sun is still setting, but looking straight ahead it might as well have already set.
Walking for another 10 minutes I begin to hear screaming. And what sounds like my name. It is coming from behind me.
I pick up Ella and hide behind a thick tree as the voices get closer.
I begin to see multiple flashlights and I think I recognize Jason's voice, but I wait until they are closer to be sure.
"Gabi! Ella! Are you out there?" That is definitely Jason's voice. There are a a couple flashlights to either side of him. I can see him in the middle and they are about twenty feet away when I step out from behind the tree.
"Jason?" I ask covering my eyes from the flashlights.
"Oh my god Gabi! Why did you leave the house?" he runs over to us and hugs us while sighing in relief.
"E-ella wanted to play o-outside! And then there was this sick w-wolf an-and It chased us! And there was another wolf! They were huge Jason! I-I not kidding like a HUGE wolf was on your front yard! B-but nobody was a-around and w-we ran and t-the other wolf a-almost ate Ella!" I am full on hysterical now, holding on to Jason and Ella. I mean its not every day you see two huge wolves you want to eat you.
"It's okay, you're okay, Ella is okay," he whispers while hugging on to me and trying to soothe me. I hear every one else murmuring behind us. They probably think I'm crazy seeing two huge wolves.
"Let's head back okay? You have all of us and I'm sure the wolves are gone, we are quite a ways away from the house," Jason says while looking down at me and wiping the tears off my cheeks. "Do you want me to hold Ella?" he asks. I nod my head and when he holds his arms out she leans right in to him.
Ella is crying and upset again. She grabs him around the neck and starts to calm down a little. He hand me the flashlight and I grab it, I see his hand sticking out a little towards me and he is looking at me from the corner of his eye. I hesitate for a second before taking it and we turn to head back towards the direction of the house.
After what feels like endless woods, I finally see light through a break in the trees ahead.
We make it to the house an back inside. Once inside we head up the stairs and into the kitchen on the sixth floor.
"Are you hungry?" he asks me.
"Yeah and Ella probably is too." I look over and she is content just staring from Jason to me. "I can cook, what do you want?" I ask while looking through the refrigerator.
"Whatever you guys want is fine, I'm not picky," he says while setting Ella down on the floor. I nod and turn back to look in the fridge. I can feel my hands slightly shaking on the handle of the door. I feel tears pool in my eyes but I am determined not to cry.
"Hey," Jason whispers softly. I feel him behind me. I take in a big breath trying to calm myself before I loose it. He wraps his arms around my waist and leans around trying to look at me.
"Please don't ask me if I'm okay," I say quietly. If he does I will lose any control I have and start crying.
"Okay," he leans his head down and puts his chin on my shoulder while still hugging me.
I let go of the fridge and turn around in his arms and hug him tight around his waist. His arms settle back around me and we sit like that is solitude for what seems like hours.
