Into The Unknown Pt. 4

The Void Power is a King's Power.

Brick received his King's Power from his father, HIM, a child of Aku.

Your father was a scientist. He had no great power other than his mind. He was raised by humans.

Your mother was an orphan who was raised in an orphanage. She was normal person but was vastly more intelligent than the average person.

Even Liz was simply a woman of creation and science.

So.....where did you get your power?

Power Up!

Brat: If either of you tell anyone about this, I swear that the Beast's curse will look like a joke.

Robin just giggled to herself while you all walked behind the Head Nurse. After you were cleaned of mud and dirt, the nurses gave you all new clothes. Granted, they were hospital gowns. The old fashion kind.

They were surprisingly comfortable.

Head Nurse: We are equipped with the latest medical technology available to Hospital Hospitality.

She laughed at her own joke which made the other Nurses laugh. Though, you were more confused by what she was talking about.

This equipment would be top self, if it was the 1800's. They didn't even have actually lights. Just gas lanterns. Thank goodness you didn't need any surgery.

But the hospital had a lot more to it than you thought. Nursery, a library, an entire room stocked with medicine, and even a small barber shop.

Robin: You have a very nice hospital here, ma'am. Your amenities are very, uh, extensive.

Head Nurse: Why, thank you!

Brat just shrugged at it all. Something was bugging her about all of this.

Brat: Yeah, that's great and all, but can I ask a question?

Head Nurse: Of course you may.

You locked eyes with Brat, mentally telling her not to say anything that would get you kicked out.

Brat: With all of this nice stuff, why don't you have any....you know.....patients?

You suddenly realized that she was right. Thinking back on it, you haven't seen any other person besides nurses here. The head nurse also hasn't said anything regarding it.

But, she did not budge. She simply smiled as if she was proud of something.

Head Nurse: Of course not! Everyone who comes here is so quick to rest and heal that there's just no one left around. And I assure you three that we will have you back on the road to carry on with your travels as soon as possible.

No one was around to treat? You did think that this place seemed to be top notch in terms of getting things done, but that was still a bit weird.

Where was everyone?

Head Nurse: Now, why don't we move onto massage therapy. It should help with that aching body of yours.

She clapped her hands together and some nurses headed towards you and your friends. They then began to lead you towards the massage room.

Zak sighed as he walked through the festival. After looking around for some clothes to blend in and some supplies, Greg suggested that they just stay the night here rather than trying to transverse the woods in the darkness.

Zak wasn't against the idea. He just didn't like the idea of wasting time when he should be looking for you and the others.

Then again, what good would he be if he was dead tired, or just plain dead?

Wooden Grandma: Well, hello there!

Zak jumped at the elderly voice. He looked to his right to see that he had sat next to someone. Like the other residents of Hollow Town, her head was covered by a wooden one. However, her wood was noticeably older than the others.

Zak: Uh, hi.

Wooden Grandma: I heard that we had a new young man at our fair today.

Zak: Uh, yeah. That's me. I'm Zachary, but people just call me Zak.

She held out her hand to shake his.

Wooden Grandma: A pleasure. My name is Mrs. Clemence.

Zak: Mrs. Clemence. Got it. So, what's a young lady like yourself doing here alone?

Mrs. Clemence: I could ask you the same question. Unlike me, you're young enough to really enjoy the fair. Though, it appears that you have something troubling you.

Zak rubbed the back of his neck.

Zak: Kinda. I'm looking for my friends. We were sperated and now, me and my partner are a bit lost. And we don't have a place to stay for the night so...

Mrs. Clemence: Oh! Why didn't you just say so? I will be glad to offer you a room at my home for the night.

Zak was surpised by the offer. She was just willing to let two complete strangers and a dog stay with her?

Mrs. Clemence: Of course, I would have you return the favor. You see, I have some children that need looking after tonight.

Zak: Oh, really? I mean, sure. If you're offering us a place to stay, I'm sure me and Greg could watch your kids.

Mrs. Clemence laughed.

Mrs. Clemence: They're not my children. They're my grandchildren.

Zak: Grandchildren?! But you look like you could be my age.

Mrs. Clemence laughed once again from Zak's compliment. Though, Zak just hoped that the kids weren't allergic to dogs.

Federico: So....you don't like the circus?

Mitch and Wirt walked with the two (former) circus performers through the wilderness. Their best, and seemingly only, bet was just to go through the circus to get to the bridge.

Wirt: No, I just....

Mitch: He's an emotionally sensitive kind of guy.

Paola: A sensitive man! Such a thing is a value! It should be nurtured....

Mitch just sighed.

Mitch: I hate being right.

Paola moved closer to Wirt and began to examine him.

Paola: Let me guess, you are an artist?

Mitch: He writes poems.

Wirt sunk at the embarrassment.

Paola: Poetry! That is a great art! Please, tell me one.

Wirt glared at Mitch for saying anything. Mitch just shrugged it off. But at that exact moment, the four heard the sounds of laughter and music in the air. They reached the edge of the forest and found the big top still standing in the center of the open field.

Paola and Federico seemed less than excited to be here. Wirt looked absolutely destroyed. Mitch....he just wanted to find everyone.

Mitch: Great. Looks like we made it.

With no hesitation, Mitch started to walk right towards the circus. Wirt quickly followed to make sure he stayed out of trouble.

Paola: Hey, Federico?

Federico looked to his friend.

Paola: Is it just me or is that kid dressed a bit weird? I mean, he's wearing pants, but as a jacket.

Federico: Kids these days. They do love their fashion.
---------------
Bubbles skipped along the trail while Beatrice and Anna watched her. They were honestly amazed by her energy. It was like she was having the time of her life.

Maybe it was because she had been playing her flute since they left that empty town.

Beatrice: So, she's from the same place that Wirt and Greg are from?

Anna: That's what they told me. Her clothing was definitely not from the Unknown.

Beatrice: Well, she blends in now.

Bubbles looked back to the two girls. She then looked up into the evening sky. Night would be coming soon.

Bubbles: Hey, maybe we should find a place to set up camp.

Anna also looked up. Beatrice just shrugged.

Anna: That does sound like a good idea. Do we have the supplies for a camp?

Bubbles nodded.

Bubbles: I made sure to grab everything we would need. We should be able to reach that tea place by lunch tomorrow, but we'll just be wondering around the dark if we keep going.

Beatrice: Yeah, how did you do that? I mean, you just disappeared and showed back up like it was nothing.

Bubbles just smiled as she held her hands behind her back.

Bubbles: It's because I'm a super hero.

The two older girls looked utterly confused. Bubbles soon became confused by their confusion. She then quickly realized that they wouldn't know what a super hero is.

Bubbles: Right. Um....magic.

Beatrice/Anna: Ooooooooh.

Right. Bubbles is now a witch. Yay.
---------------
Ringmaster: THHHHAAAAAATTTTTT'SSSS RIGHT, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! COME ONE, COME ALL AND BE AMAZED!

Mitch and Wirt in complete awe by what they were looking at. The entire circus was in full swing. From tall men to acrobatic performers. Mitch knew that you and Bubbles would absolutely love this place.

They walked with Federico and Paola through the fair grounds. The circus was absolutely what Mitch always thought they would be. Granted it was most definitely more old school than he would normally see.

And at the center of it all was a large stage. On it was currently a beautiful Asian woman. She wore a very gorgeous dress with her hair tied up in a top knot. In her hands were pieces of paper which she was folding while she danced elegantly.

Ringmaster: Behold the marvelous Miss Yuki as she crafts origami while she dances!

She handed a paper swan to a child in the crowd. She then lifted her arm up. Mitch noticed that it was completely covered in very light colored tattoos.

Suddenly, one flew off of her skin and began to float around just above the palm of her hand. It was a Koi fish and it moved as if it was swimming in the water.

Ringmaster: Behold as her tattoos shift to mimic the various sculptures she brings forth from mere pressed wood pulp. Isn't she wonderful? Give her a hand!

The crowd cheered for the preformance. The koi fish vanished and Miss Yuki took a bow.

Wirt: You know, this isn't too bad.

Paola: This? It's fine for what it is, yes. It's Mister H that I cannot abide.

Mitch looked to her.

Mitch: "Mister H"?

Paola: He's the ringmaster and the animal tamer. I do not agree with his methods or his insistence on profit. Artistic invention cannot live under such conditions.

Mitch shrugged.

Mitch: Seems pretty inventive to me.

Paola: That is because you have not seen it a hundred times! Don't misunderstand, I adore my fellow performers, but this is unheard of.

Mitch didn't believe that. He always figured that every circus performer was either depressed or drunk 24/7. Maybe both.

Though, as he looked around, he took note on the fact that everyone seemed to be genuinely happy to be here. Even the performers seemed to enjoy what they were doing.

Paola: Excuse me a moment.

Paola suddenly walked off into the crowd. Mitch and Wirt stayed behind with Federico. Mitch also started to look around and noticed that he stuck out. His clothes didn't look like they belonged.

He wore a white t-shirt with a pair of dark colored pants. He also wore a pair of black Vans and a black leather jacket. He noticed that he started wearing more black after he became a Black Knight.

Wirt: Hey, maybe we should get going now. I can see the bridge from here.

Mitch looked over and saw that he was right. Mitch was about to tell Federico goodbye, but Paola suddenly reappeared and grabbed Wirt by the shoulders.

Paola: You two can't leave yet! There's a new act coming up.

Mitch and Wirt looked at each other uncertained, but the ringmaster took the stage.

Mister H: Ladies and gentlemen! It's is my absolute honor to present the final act tonight! A new act that has never been preformed here at our circus! The poetry of our friend and scholar! Please welcome to the stage, Wirt!

Mitch and Wirt both suddenly found themselves standing up straighter. They looked at each other before they looked to Paola.

Paola: Speak your words, my friend!

Mitch: Son of a....
----------
Head Nurse: Birtch!

You, Robin, and Brat all sat on the floor while the head nurse swung around a stick.

Head Nurse: The smell of birtch wood calms the soul and mind.

You leaned over to Robin and whispered to her.

Y/N: Is that true?

Robin: Not in the slightest, no.

Head Nurse: Now, everyone relax.

You all did as she said.

Head Nurse: Take a deep breath, and let it out.

You took a deep breath, and let it out.

Head Nurse: Now, clear your mind.

You found yourself trying to meditate with both Robin and Brat. You didn't know what this would get you, but you did have a lot of inner searching to do.

Maybe you can even try to figure out this whole tangled mess of relationships. Or maybe a way to really keep the Beast at bay. Or.....what really happened that night.

You know the truth. You don't even fully remember that night, do you?

You opened your eyes to see that you were now sitting in the middle of what seemed to be darkness itself. You quickly jumped to your feet and looked around frantically.

Tell me something, boy. What do you really remember?

You turned around to see the Beast standing there. Or, maybe he was just the illusion of your slowly rotting mind.

Y/N: What do you mean? I...I remember everything. The car crash, the chemicals....

Don't lie to me!

You were suddenly thrown up into the air. There, you remained suspended as if gravity stopped working.

You remember nothing. You lie to yourself just so you can find some peace within that troubled mind of yours. You claim that it was a car crash. That you were the only one to survive.

That was because that was the truth. You were the only survivor.

Really? Then what is this?

Liz: Y/N! Y/N, wake up! Please!

Your breathing was shallow. The world around you was muffled by the ringing in your ear. Your vision was blurry. You actually couldn't even see out of your right eye.

You think you could hear sirens over the yelling and screaming.

What was on your hand? It was wet and warm. Was it....blood?

Liz: Y/N! Stay with me!

Your vision went blurry again before you saw nothing.

Then you felt something start to burn inside.

What was Liz doing there? She wasn't....how was that possible?

What really happened? Why are you lying? What are you hiding from?

Y/N: Get out of my head! You don't know anything!

YOU ARE WRONG!

You were suddenly let go. You began to fall endlessly into the darkness, never reaching the ground or stopping.

I know everything about you. More than you could possibly know. I know about the darkest secrets you keep.

I know about the memories that do not exist. You don't even remember anything of significance from before your accident, do you?

What was he talking about? What memories couldn't you remember?

Brat opened one of her eyes and looked over to you. Her eyes shot wide open when she saw a faint dark glow around your body.

Brat: Y/N?!

Robin opened her eyes and ghe head nurse also looked over to you. Brat and Robin quickly hurried to you but the head nurse smacked their hands away.

Head Nurse: No! You must not interrupt his meditation! He is healing.

Robin wasn't entirely convinced. Brat didn't even hear her. She just stared at you as you sat there with your eyes closed.

What was going on?
--------------
Mrs. Clemence: Here is my home.

Zak: The cream colored one? It's nice.

Mrs. Clemence: It's egg-shell.

Zak and Greg followed the old wooden woman to her home. Courage continued to hide in the bag that Gregory was now carrying.

Zak: Right. Sorry.

Courage poked out of the bag and looked at the trees once again. He really couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. Or even that the wooden heads were more sinister than they may seem.

He had experience in this sort of stuff.

Mrs. Clemence: Now, we do have a few rules, but I can tell you about them once you meet the children. Come along, now.

Zak and Greg simply followed her inside of the house.
--------------
Wirt: I can't go up there! I don't even have anything prepared!

Mitch: Yeah, this is a bad idea. We just want to get over the bridge. We don't....

Paola: Nonsense! He just needs to be bold!

Paola grabbed Wirt and began to push him towards the stage. The lights turned off, allowing the moon to shine down upon the stage. Wirt stood there nervously while Mitch watched.

What was he even going to do?

The whole crowd clapped and cheered once Wirt found himself standing on the stage. The clapping slowed down, and was replaced with silence.

There was even a distant cough.

Wirt:........................

He then stepped off the stage and stood next to Mitch. He shrugged nervously.

Mitch: Wow. I don't think I had ever actually seen someone choke like that before.

The entire crowd suddenly began to boo and yell at the ringmaster. He stood there baffled by the horrible performance, or lack of.

The people began to leave the circus while voicing their disappointment.

Mister H: Now, ladies and gentlemen, please...sit back down! There's a fantastic act coming up!

Strong Man: Wait! He's not one of us!

Mitch and Wirt looked around to see the madness around them.

Mitch: Uh, we should go before...

Strong Man: We knock your front teeth out?!

The two suddenly found themselves surrounded by the various circus performers. Federico and Paola were also grabbed.

Wirt: Wait, wait!

Mitch: Hey! Let us go!
------------
Bubbles poked at the fire with a stick. She then looked up into the night sky. She had no idea where everyone was, but she hoped that you were all safe and sound.

She closed her eyes for a moment and hummed to herself. Beatrice and Anna had since fallen asleep and she was left alone with her thoughts.

She remained unaware that someone was watching her from the darkness of the trees. It wasn't the Beast, however. No.

It was a much more familiar face.

One...of a sister.
--------------
Y/N: What is the Unknown, really? And what does the Beast mean when he said I couldn't remember anything from before the accident? And that girl that's stalking Bubbles, Beatrice, and Anna does seem really familiar. Wait, did they throw Mitch and Wirt into a cage?! What the heck is going on here?!

Y/N: Next time: Tales of the Unknown Pt. 1

Y/N: Why do I feel like our adventures here just started?
