You had never gone to Flordia, and you have definitely never seen the Everglades. You were very much used to the Midwest of America. Still, it was much warmer here. Warm enough that you didn't need a jacket.

And, you would like to say it now, you were seriously happy that you had a friend who had an airship. You would've been flying around aimlessly for God knows how long.

Zak: You know, this isn't what I meant when I said we should have an adventure.

You kept your group small this time. Only Zak and Courage. Brat stayed behind since she was "tired of constant dangerous situations" and to not fall behind on school. Liz only allowed Zak to go with you just because he had been homeschooled prior, so he was up to date with his stuff.

Courage hopped up and struggled to pull himself up onto the windowsill. You gave him a helpful push and he looked at the Everglades below.

You didn't know how long you would be gone for, but Liz managed to get you at least this week of school off. You sent a brief text to Mitch to explain the situation, but you didn't tell him about the Buttercup incident. You didn't know that anyone else really knew about it.

Courage saw, but that was only because he was walking out of the bathroom and just happened to see it through the window.

He was no longer a fan of Buttercup.

Zak: Looks like we're getting close. I'll start to land the airship so...

The conversation was interrupted when you heard something down below. You all looked down to see a fire among the trees. You looked to Zak who nodded. You opened a portal below yourself and dropped down from the airship.

In a flash of black, you flew down to the fire. It looked bad. You didn't have ice breath like Blossom did, but you did have the Void. Thinking quickly, you opened a portal underneath the water and opened another in front of you. Water began to spray out at the flames, putting them out.

Once they were claiming down, you heard voices. You looked back to see two boys and a girl. They both looked to be your age, or some where around it, who were both hurrying through the bush. They stopped when they reached the burnt clearing and looked at you as you hovered there.

Y/N: Uh, I'm not here.

The two boys looked at each other.

???: Do you think that he's the source of the spikes?

???: Well, he is flying. That's not exactly normal.

You sighed before two other men rushed out of the bush, accompanied by a small dog.

???: Boys, are you okay?

???: Yeah, we're fine, dad. But we think we found the source of the spike.

The blonde haired boy pointed to you as you landed on dry land. Or, as dry as land got around here. You looked at the group as one man in particular stared at you in surpise. He then smiled as he made his way over to you.

???: No, Jonny. This boy is not the cause of the spikes. He's your cousin. Y/N L/N.

Cousin? Wait, what?

Power Up!

You stood there confused as the group talked among themselves. You looked up to see a ladder descending from the airship. Zak made his way down with Courage in his backpack and the two joined you in watching the group.

Zak: Who are they? Locals?

Y/N: I only recognize one guy, and that's him.

You pointed to the red-haired man who wore a coat that seemed to remain clean even in the Everglades.

Y/N: That's Dr. Benton Quest. I guess my parents knew him.

Zak: Wait a sec. I know who that white haired dude is. That's Race Bannon. He used to work with my parents.

Weird. But, it would add up. The Saturdays were close with your family, so of course they would know who the Quests were. Still, this was all confusing.

While you and Zak tried to figure out the situation, the two boys from before walked over and got your attention. You and Zak looked at them to find the blonde haired boy waving.

???: Hey. So, you're Y/N L/N, right? Your parents were Joseph and Lydia?

You nodded.

Y/N: And this is my friend, Zak Saturday and my dog, Courage.

Zak: What up?

???: Cool. I've always wanted to meet you.

???: Jonny, maybe you should introduce yourself so they know who you are.

???: Hm? Oh, yeah.

The boy turned towards you with a friendly smile and held his hand out.

???: I'm Jonny Quest. This here is my brother, Hadji Singh. This is my dog, Bandit, too. I guess that makes us cousins.

You shook his hand while Courage and Bandit stared at each other, unsure if the other was friendly.

Y/N: I'm sorry if it's rude, but how does that make us cousins, exactly?

Jonny: Well, your mom and my mom were sisters, kinda. They grew up in the same orphanage and were super close from what my dad told me. Though, I guess our dad's knew each other since Kindergarden.

Your mom was an orphan? You never knew.

Hadji: We were happy to hear that you were coming to visit us.

Really? They were excited to see you. You almost thought that they wouldn't have even known who you were. Pr that they would be your cousins, in some weird way.

After a second, the rest walked over, led by Dr. Quest who immediately, though gently, grabbed you by the shoulders to take a look at you.

Dr. Quest: My, how you have grown. Last I saw you, you were just a lad.

Y/N: We've met before? I don't recall.

Dr. Quest made a face before he nodded.

Dr. Quest: I suppose you wouldn't.

He cleared his throat and took a step back to introduce the others.

Dr. Quest: You already met my boys and Bandit, but this is Race Bannon, his daughter Jessie.

He turned back to you with a kind smile.

Dr. Quest: We're happy to have you here.

You sat on a rather comfortable chair in what you could only describe as a game room. There was Foosball, Air Hockey, some arcade games, and even a huge TV with every game station you could dream of.

You were jealous. You weren't even going to try and lie about it. They had Silent Hill Pinball. And a popcorn machine. And was that a snowcone machine?

Okay, you need to stop thinking about it. You were here for a reason. Though, it seems like you came at a bad time.

The door slid open and Race stepped in and looked at you and Zak. He then looked around before he spotted Courage destroying the highscore to Space Invaders.

He looked back at you, but you just shrugged.

He ended up leading you all to another room where you found the others looking at a hologram of the world. You were shocked by the sight of this. It was unlike any technology you had ever seen before. This guy really was ahead of the game.

Dr. Quest: Welcome to our briefing room, boys. Now, I hope you had unpacked.

Zak: We just left everything on the airship. We didn't want to intrude.

Dr. Quest: "Intrude"? No, never. You are family. You'll always be welcomed here.

Honestly? You felt more welcomed here than back home at the current moment. But that was besides the point.

Race: Sorry to cut your arrival short, but we could use your help.

Y/N: Our help? With what?

Dr. Quest: We have been expecting a vortex to appear somewhere around the Everglades.

Vortex? That sounded like trouble.

Dr. Quest: Jonny, Hadji, and Jesse will be using our flight packs. Seeing as you can fly without one, we would appreciate your assistance.

You and Zak shared a look. You the shrugged.

Y/N: Sure. We'll see what we can do to help.

Jesse: Perfect! You're gonna love this.

You didn't know if you would.

Okay, you did.

Jonny: Bet I can get a cleaner barrel roll than you.

Y/N: You're on!

You and Jonny flew ahead of the others while Race, Bandit, Courage, and Zak followed by helicopter. You couldn't remember the last time you had fun using your powers like this. You felt free for the first time in a long time. Almost like you were flying for the first time all over again.

Hadji: I thought we were looking for strange phenomenon.

Jesse: We are. Stop messing around before someone gets hurt.

Jonny: You're right. We should spread out to search wide! Wheee-Whooo!

Jonny blasted ahead which made you laugh. You sped up yourself to make sure that he wouldn't crack his head on a branch. Jesse rolled her eyes, but looked down to see the many gators below. She then smirked.

Jesse: They look like dinosaurs, don't they?

Hadji: Ho wow!

Jesse: Heh. Watch this.

Jesse flew down while Hadji sighed.

Hadji: Nothing good ever follows that phase.

Jesse flew down near the gators and did a flip just as one leaped up to try and snap at her. Jesse laughed as she flew up again.

Race: That's not what Dr. Quest meant by going in for close observation, Sweet Pea.

Jesse: Sorry, Pa.

Race: This is reconnaissance, kids. We're here to observe. Dr. Quest needs to scan this vortex.

You turned and began to fly on your back, making Jonny jealous at your skill.

Y/N: Say, what are these Vortex things anyway?

Zak: Yeah. I've never heard of them before either.

Race: That's because these aren't like the cryptids you study, Saturday. These are best explained as portals of somekind. Sometimes they emit energy, or drop things from the other side.

So, like your portals? Could they be connected to the King's Power? If that was the case, then you really should take this seriously.

Jonny: Sorry, Race. I'll stay focus. But what if it's like last time with those killer plants?

Jesse: Then y'all are on your own. I'm not dealing with those things again.

Race: If that happens, you kids will bug out and let me handle it.

Zak: No offense, Race, but we can handle ourselves.

Race sighed. Kids these days really were a handful. And now he has three to look out for.

While you were in the Everglades, a plane landed on the private strip to the Quest residence. From it came a man and a woman. The man held something covered by a blanket.

Man: Finally. And we only had to head to the bottom of the continent.

Woman: The humidity and the heat, it was like when I was a girl back in Jakarta.

Man: I like all the sun.

The man looked around before he pulled the blanket off of the cage, revealing a blue bird underneath. He opened the cage with a smile.

Man: Strech those wings, Avenger. Find some lunch while we're inside.

The bird called out before it took off. The man let out a sigh and looked to his female companion.

Man: So, we just spent hours on a flight. We're friends now, right?

The woman rolled her eyes and kept walking.

Woman: You want to ask me about your superior, Falcon 7. Go ahead.

The man followed the woman.

Man: You've met him in person, right?

The woman shook her head.

Woman: Sort of. No one gets very close to him. What you've seen on your screen is as much as I.....I'm just an agent, just like you.

The two took off their glasses for the scanner to scan their eyes. It then blinked green.

Scanner: Visitors: Ray Randall and Deva Sumadi. You are clear for entry.

Ray: Wow. Fancy.

The door opened and the two headed inside with their bags.

Ray: Dr. Quest is a very mysterious person. I was surpised that he wanted to meet in person.

Deva: Dr. Quest refuses to talk to Inter-Nation any other way. You read the file, right?

Ray nodded.

Ray: Dr. Benton Quest and his partner Dr. Joseph L/N worked for the defense department for Nasa before breaking off to their own work. After the death of his wife and the L/Ns, he contracts work privately.

Deva: Yes, then the Elite Branch, Intelligence One, sent one of their best and a friend of Quest's to protect the family, Race Bannon.

Ray: Talk about living the life.

The two entered the lab where Dr. Quest was monitoring the situation. He didn't look back, but he did address them.

Dr. Quest: Your files are missing some minor information, but it appears that you have the general idea.

The man turned around and greet the two.

Deva: Our superior sent us. Said that if Dr. Quest says there's a threat to the world, then we need to learn more.

Ray looked past them both and looked at the hologram of the globe. He rubbed his chin.

Ray: You're tracking something.

Dr. Quest looked at the monitor and nodded.

Dr. Quest: Have been for a while now. Even back when I was working with Dr. L/N.

He tapped something which brought up another screen. A picture of a vortex.

Dr. Quest: We became aware of these Vortexes appearing all around the world and vanishing. Sometimes they emit energy, sometimes a torrent of data that I can't quite interpret.

He then picked something up and held it out toward Deva.

Dr. Quest: After a manifestation, I often find things like this left at the site.

Deva examined it closely. It looked like a rock, but it was a strange purple that she couldn't quite explain. It seemed like it came from somewhere not of this world.

Deva: What is this?

Dr. Quest: A rock with properties not of this whole solar system. This phenomenon had been growing in intensity for nearly a decade. Each appearance of a Vortex is lasting longer and causing more chaos. We belive it may have some connection to the King's Power.

Ray: Now, what makes this a concern to Inter-Nation? Wouldn't this be more in the realm to climate change and natural disaster?

Dr. Quest tapped something else, showing a hologram of a man.

Deva: Dr. Zin. One of the greatest minds, with less moral qualms about what he makes and who he sells it to.

Dr. Quest: Right. And everything I know, he knows as well. In fact, he's beaten us to several Vortexes and taken several samples that I might have found. I believe that he has help from some larger consortium this time.

Ray and Deva looked at each other with concern. This was bad news.

Ray: You don't think it could be....

Deva: F.E.A.R.?

Ray: First they try to assassinate one of those Powerpuffs and now they're investigating Vortexes. Looks like they've been busy.

Suddenly, there was a bright light which caught their attention. They looked out the window to see something large falling from a Vortex, heading straight towards the Everglades.

You flew along before you heard something. You stopped and looked up to see the massive object flying down towards the Everglades. You all watched as it crashed among the trees.

Zak: That looked like a ship.

Hadji: Someone could be inside. They might be in danger!

You clenched your fists, not ready to let anyone just suffer. You moved to fly towards the wreck, only to nearly get shot by a red beam from below. You all looked down to see large spider like bots looking up at all of you.

Y/N: What are those things?

Before anyone could reply, you all found a large shadow covering the sun. You looked up again to see a large black jet heading your way.

Race: Dr. Zin. Kids, get to safety!

The ship lowered a weapon and began to open fire, sending you all into a frenzy. You avoided the blasts, but on clipped Hadji's flight packs. Jonny leaped into action to catch his brother while you looked down at the bots below that were still shooting towards you.

Y/N: Jesse, go help Jonny and Hadji! I'll regroup with you once I take these things down!

Jesse nodded and flew down. You clenched your fists and flew down. You crashed into one of the bots before lifting it up and throwing it into another. You then used your heat vision and sliced through two more. Though, it looked like you didn't even put a dent in their numbers.

You flew through the bots quickly and destroyed as many as you could while keeping them from going towards the crashed ship. You grabbed one by the legs and threw it up, finally realizing that the sky had changed. Or, rather, that a few things had appeared.

Vortexes. Several of them. All showing things that you had never really seen before. Times and places that were both in the past, the present, and the future.

Y/N: What the heck?

Dr. Quest: Come in! Is anyone there?!

You tapped your earpiece.

Y/N: I'm here. What is happening?

Dr. Quest: Vortexes are popping up everywhere. The readings are off the charts.

Race: Doc, it's F.E.A.R. They're attacking.

Dr. Quest: Hang in there. We're on our way.

You pulled your finger away and looked down to the others to see that spider bots were starting to surround them. You quickly flew down and got to work with disposing them. You grabbed a bot and threw it away with your strength, blowing it up with your heat vision for good measure.

You landed and helped Zak to his feet while the others regrouped.

Zak: What the heck is this?

Jonny: Dr. Zin and F.E.A.R. Bad guys.

You sighed. Of course.

Dr. Quest: The hovercraft is just up ahead. We might be able to fit everyone if we....

He stopped when Ray suddenly started to run towards the edge of the terrace. Deva and him watched as he grabbed the rails.

Dr. Quest: Mr. Randall, what are you doing?!

Deva: Don't worry, Doctor. We would only be slowing him down. He's a special field agent for a reason.

Ray stood ontop of the rail and took a deep breath. He then looked up.

Ray: I fly for the glory of Ra. The sun is my strength, the sky is my home. To my side, Avenger!

Ray then leaped from the rail, leaving Dr. Quest stunned. Just then, something flew up into the sky.

Birdman: Let's go!

Birdman and his partner flew off towards the action as Dr. Quest watched.

Dr. Quest: Birdman? I thought he was just a modern myth.

Deva: He is. Come on.

Deva pulled the doctor along towards the Hovercraft.

You stood on guard as Zak held the claw up. Everyone was ready for a fight as more bots made their way towards you. The jet was even getting closer.

Zak: You know, I was always told that Florida was dangerous, but this is just ridiculous.

Courage: <You're telling me!>

You held up your fists, only to see something odd. You tilted your head to the side as something began to glow behind the bot that was ready to fire.

Then, it blew up.

You all shielded yourselves as the bits from the bot flew everywhere, revealing your savior.

???: I will not stop you. I WILL DESTORY YOU!

You groaned.

Y/N: I hate my life.
