mother through love, not genes

A FIGURE IN all black, covered by shadows, walked towards a house. A house that had a mother, father, and a son who was about a year older than the little baby who he had in his arms.

"Now, I know this is difficult for your mother and father, but it's the right thing to do," The man stated, a tear gathering in his eye. He knew that he wasn't crying because he was dropping off a baby to a random family, it was because he knew what will have to happen after he completes his mission.

"Okay." He sighed and placed the baby down on the doormat. The little baby gurgled, reaching her tiny arms up. The tiny basket that she was in, shook a little as she moved, but other than that, it didn't tip over. "Sorry that your parents couldn't save you, but..." He took in a deep breath. "Even though I hate them with every fiber of my now undead heart due to your father killing me, I know that they love you with everything in them. All of them."

He sighed once more before knocking the door roughly, making sure that the people inside the house heard it.

He used his enhanced hearing to hear the people inside the house say something before footsteps were approaching the door. Instantly, he was across the street, using the dark night and trees as a cover to hide himself.

His dark eyes swept over the scenery before they latched onto a small Latino woman who opened the door. Her curly hair bounced with volume as she looked around for the person who knocked on the door. As she went to close the door, the baby let out a gurgle and giggled, her blue eyes shining with excitement as the porch light bounced off of them.

"Oh, my god." The woman gasped and bent down to check on the baby, her momma bear coming out to play. But, seeing that the baby wasn't hurt made her breath put a sigh in relief. Her brown eyes latched onto a note that was attached to the little basket in which the baby was in.

The woman reached over and grabbed the small note with narrowed, confused eyes. On the note was a name in perfect cursive writing; Hope. She looked away from the note and to the baby, again. "Hope..." she trailed off, testing the name on her lips which made the baby gurgle even more. "Aw," The woman cooed at how cute the baby was being.

The woman turned the note over to read what was written. She glanced down at the baby once more and decided to read the note out loud even though the baby wouldn't understand a word she was saying. "Hope, we're sorry that we couldn't protect you. We hope that your new family will take care of you. Just know that we will love you, always and forever."

The woman shook her head at the note. No matter how much trouble they were in, they shouldn't of just left their baby with some strangers. Who knows, maybe they could've dropped off Hope with some drug addicts or psycho killers.

"Good thing you're with us," The woman stated bodly. "We will take care of you more than your biological parents could." She put the piece of note in her back pocket and gently placed her hand on Hope's face.

Hope gurgled and reached up with her tiny hands, and grabbed the woman's pointer finger.

The woman cooed even more and picked her up out of the basket, having no idea that she was being watched by a newborn vampire who will do something outrageous once she closes that door behind her.

"I will take good care of you. Yes, I will. Yeah!" The woman cooed, smiling down at the bundle in her arms. "I'm Melissa and I will be your new mommy, yeah."

"Honey, who's at the door?!" A man's voice echoed from somewhere in the house to the woman at the door who was holding Hope. "Melissa? What's out there?"

"Just a little gift, that's all," The woman now known as Melissa answered, smiling down at Hope. "Scott, your big bubby will love you so much like I already do, yeah."

The baby, little Hope, gurgled im happiness as Melissa closed the house door behind them as they wandered inside the building, having no clue of the events that are happening outside.

"Goodbye, little Hope." The vampire grunted as he drove a stake through his own heart, his toes being the first to tense up before the feeling ventured throughout his body. He was decaying. Soon, he fell to the ground, dead.

All that was heard through the McCall residence was squeals of happiness and gurgles.
