Return of the Caveman/meeting Frankie Gaines
a/n: Frankie's outfit above
Bella's POV
Since yesterday, Tyler and I have been hanging out a ton. Tyler had asked how I found and bonded to my energem, so I answered him. I told him the story of the night that we had for a dig and I found the energem. Apparently Kendall, Keeper, Koda and Chase hadn't expected to find an energem, let alone someone else to bond to it. We walked into base just as I finished up my story. "So that's how I found my energem." I finished and the two of us let our energems fly to their place in the small cavern in the wall.
"What's that?" Tyler asked, looking at the yellow motorcycle in base and gaining the attention of everyone else in the lab area.
"It's a new Dino Cycle that Miss. Morgan invented for us." Chase explained to us and he climbed on, revving it up. Suddenly, there were fast footsteps rushing towards us and we all turned around to see Koda panting a bit with a stick in his hand.
"Sorry, we didn't know you were still sleeping." Kendall apologized to Koda. He lowered the stick and Chase got off of the bike.
"Kendall..." Shelby began, but Kendall gave her a look and Shelby corrected herself. "Miss Morgan was just showing us the Dino Cycle." Koda looked at it.
"Come on over, take a squiz." Chase reassured Koda.
"A squiz?" We all asked Chase about his New Zealand lingo.
"A squiz. You know, a look?" Chase tried explaining to us. "Sometimes I wonder if I am even speaking English."
"Us too." I answered his comment.
"Take a look, Koda, it's got everything from laser blasters to energy scanners." Chase explained to Koda. "Plus, I look really good on it." He revved it up again and Koda seemingly sensed danger and hit the front wheel with his stick. Shelby calmed him down because she was closest.
"Easy, relax Koda." Shelby reassured Koda. "Sorry, instincts say danger." Koda apologized.
"No apologies. I totally get it, where you're from anything that makes a strange sound is a threat." Shelby told him, putting her hand on his shoulder. Suddenly, Shelby's phone started ringing and Koda turned around quickly and smashed the phone with the stick he was holding, leaving all of us in shock from his fast reflexes.
"I sorry Shelby, I..." Koda apologized to Shelby.
"No apologies mate, she totally gets it." Chase said and we all gave him a 'shut-up' look. Kendall walked over to Koda.
"He's grown accustomed to morphing into a ranger, but..." Kendall started.
"Some modern things still give me nervous." Koda tried to explain to us. Chase walked over to Koda.
"Look, you just need a few pointers. I've ridden everything from roller coasters to kangaroos. If anybody can teach you to ride, it's me." Chase said and the two were about to leave, until Riley stopped him.
"Whoa. Whoa. Wait a second..." He started. "There aren't any kangaroos in New Zealand, those are in Australia." Riley corrected him.
"Ah details, let's give it a go." Chase told us and walked out with Koda. While the others did their own things, I stayed in the lab area and looked over notes with Kendall about how all of our energems were found and the other dinosaurs that Keeper told us about, the ones that the other energems bonded to. We were discussing ways to try and find the other energems. My dino com went off. I pulled it out of my back pocket and pushed the button to answer the call.
"Go for Bella." I answered, not bothering to see who was calling me.
"Hey, could you come down to the park. I'm having some trouble teaching Koda how to ride. Since you're a BMX expert, I figured you'd help me." Chase explained, after his face popped up on the small screen.
"Alright, I'll be over there soon." I told him after Kendall nodded, telling me that I was free to go help him and she would be able to continue with her experiments without me. I grabbed my pale yellow bike and I clipped my matching helmet to my head. As soon as I was by the loading dock, I climbed on my bike and rode off towards the park. I finally reached the park and found Chase teaching Koda how to stay steady in the bike, even if it did have training wheels on it. "How's it going?" I asked, riding over to them slowly.
"Pretty good. Koda can now balance on the bike now." Chase replied and Koda smiled and nodded. I grinned. "Great. Koda, you should be able to ride now." I said, turning my bike around so I was right next to the caveman. "Watch how I move my feet." I instructed him and started to pedal extremely slowly. After about riding forward about a few feet, I stopped and looked back at Koda. "Now you try."
"I don't know Bella." Koda said.
"Just give it a try mate." Chase encouraged.
"Okay. I try." Koda said and started to shakily ride the bike towards me. Slowly but surely, Koda caught up to me and Chase and I rode next to him slowly, making sure he got the hang of the new skill we were trying to teach him.
"Very good. Keep it smooth, my man. I mean, caveman." Chase encouraged Koda, while we rode next to Koda. He was doing great for a first time and being a caveman, he was just a bit shaky steering the bike and keeping the front wheel straight.
"See, your getting a hang of it now." I added. Suddenly, a group of kids passed by us. All of them were laughing at Koda. "Hey!" I shouted at them over my shoulder after I stopped riding for a second. Chase had stopped as well. We realized that Koda hadn't stopped riding and we turned around quickly and before we could warn him; Koda accidentally hit the curb with his bike and toppled off of the bike into the grass. Koda sat up and spit the grass out of his mouth. I cringed.
"How about we take a break?" Chase suggested. I nodded, agreeing with him.
"Good call." I said and we helped Koda off of the ground and we all sat down on a nearby bench.
"No worries mate. It takes time to figure it out." Chase told Koda, as we watched the park life. I unclipped my helmet and set it in the basket of my bike, which was resting against the side of the bench.
"It's not just uh... bike. It many things I not use to." Koda started. "Uh, like TV, uh... Comb. And, and glass." Koda explained. Chase and I flinched as we imagined Koda hitting glass doors face first.
"Yeah. This is a new and strange world for you." I said. "But right here, right now, Koda you don't have to worry about anything." A group of two girls walked by us, checking out Chase and Koda as they walked past us.
"Expect, looking good for the ladies." Chase said, smiling at the girls.
"Yes, look good for-" Koda started but cut himself off when the automatic sprinklers went off. Koda jumped back behind the bench and we both stood up to aid our friend.
"Relax, they're just sprinklers." I reassured him. Once Koda was back up on his feet, he pulled his energem out from underneath his shirt.
"Why would blue energem choose me?" Koda asked, doubting himself. Before I could tell him to stop doubting himself, Koda said something else. "Duck!" Koda shouted in an attempt to warn us, and he jumped out of the way. Before Chase and I could react, blue cages were dropped on us, trapping us. Chase and I shared one look and saw another cage heading in Koda's way.
"Koda, behind you!" Chase warned the caveman as we were teleported away from the park. Chase and I tried morphing, calling Kendall and the others, and breaking the cages. But something was keeping us from doing so. I groaned and rested my head on the bars of the cage. There was a sound of another cage land in the cave we were trapped in. "Koda!" Chase said with some relief in his voice. Koda tried to bend the bars of the cage with his caveman strength. "We tried everything, even morphing. But we can't." Chase informed our friend.
"Even you can't bend the bars..." I said with dismay. I saw someone else in the cage with Koda.
"Who's the kid?" Chase asked. Koda turned around and knelt down by the kid, who seemed to be crying judging by the tear streaks down his face.
"You okay?" Koda asked while taking the helmet off of his head. The boy shook his head, while holding his leg.
"My leg, I think it's broken." The boy replied.
"Koda, look. The cage landed on the bike." I pointed out a possible place of escape for the two of them. "Maybe you guys can get out." Koda pushed the bike out of the way and it revealed a dent in the cage. He slid out himself and turned to the boy and helped him out, carefully.
"Careful. Don't hit leg." Koda informed the boy. Once the boy was out of the cage, he rested back on a rock.
"Nice work on getting out, but this cave is too dark..." Chase started but trailed off when he saw Koda start a fire and he made a torch.
"Wow." The boy said and I smiled.
"You've gotta teach me how to do that mate." Chase told Koda.
"What is your name?" Koda asked the boy.
"Peter." He replied.
"Peter, can you hold torch?" Koda asked and Peter nodded. He held on to the torch while Koda checked his leg. "He need doctor." Koda informed us. He ripped off part of his shirt and started to tie it around Peter's leg with a couple sticks to create a makeshift sling to support Peter's leg until Koda is able to get him to a doctor.
"Let's try this again." I mumbled and pulled out my Dino com. "Kendall? Can anyone hear me? Is anyone out there?" I asked. I checked the signal on the Dino com and saw that something was jamming it. "There's some type of field jamming our equipment. We've gotta get out of this cave if we want to call anyone or morph." I explained to Koda and Chase. Koda picked up Peter and Peter got settled on his back.
"Which way?" Peter asked. Koda held up the torch.
"The wind show us." Koda replied. The wind blew the flame back, Koda pointed in the direction where the wind came from. "We go this way." Koda walked past Chase's cage and paused. He looked back at us. "I get Peter out, then come back." Koda explained to us what's going through his head. I nodded.
"Good luck." Chase wished him and Koda left us, to go find a way out.
"Might as well get comfortable." I said and I settled down on the ground, leaning back on the cage bars and faced Chase's cage. Chase did the same.
Meanwhile, Back at the Cafe
Tyler's POV
Shelby, Riley and I were busy cleaning up the cafe when suddenly Kendall walked in, looking more stressed than usual. "Bella, Chase and Koda are all late." Kendall informed us. "Koda doesn't know what time is." Riley started.
"And Chase is always late." Shelby said.
"It's weird for Bella. She's almost always on time. If she knows she's gonna be late she would call us." I added, furrowing my eyebrows.
"They are also not answering their Dino coms either." Kendall added, lowering her voice at the end. We all looked at each other worried. "Tyler and Riley take the Dino cycles out. Their scanners will help you guys cover more ground. Shelby and I will try and track their dino coms." Kendall instructed us. I nodded.
"Okay." I said and Riley and I headed out to the loading dock to bring up the Dino cycles. We morphed along the way and started to look for our friends.
Back with Chase and Bella in the Cave
Bella's POV
"I really hope Koda finds a way out soon." Chase said and I made a noise of agreement. I heard heavy footsteps come towards us and Chase and I scrambled to our feet, dusting the dirt off of us. We saw the monster walk into our view.
"What? A jailbreak on my watch, that ranger is more clever than I thought." Slammer yelled. "I'll crush him." He tossed the bike aside in anger.
"Hey, um... I'm pretty clever too. Let us out and I'll show you." Chase attempted to bargain with Slammer.
"Yeah, he's pretty good." I added, looking at him weirdly wanting to know what he's getting at.
"You wanna show someone? Show Sledge! He'll eat you two for breakfast! Now, I have a ranger to catch." Slammer said and walked off in the same direction that Koda went off in.
"I hope Koda makes it out of the cave before Slammer gets to him and Peter." I said, hoping that Koda gets out safely.
Back with the Other Rangers
Tyler's POV
Riley and I were searching downtown, riding our new dino cycles. "Riley, we'll cover more ground if we split up." I suggested.
"Good idea, I'll head towards the park. That was their last known location." Riley said, and took a left turn, while I headed towards the outskirts of town to check the other areas of the city. I pushed a button on the dino cycle and it started scanning the area around me, as I rode around for any sign of three dino coms. "Guys, I found Lexa's bike and Chase's skateboard over here." Riley informed us on the common link.
"That's weird. Those two would not just leave them there." Shelby said. My dino cycle's computer went off and I glanced down at it, seeing an abnormal field around the coast/mountain area. I pushed another button to send it to Kendall and Shelby who were still at base. I pushed the button on the side of my helmet.
"I'm picking up a magnetic field, do you see it?" I asked the two of them.
"I see it too. Those are some strange readings." Kendall said.
"That field may be keeping them from communicating with us." Shelby suggested.
"Or maybe even from morphing. They've got to get outside." Kendall said. "Riley, I'm sending you the coordinates. Meet us at the mountain." She told the green ranger.
"I'm on my way." Riley said and I demorphed as I reached the mountain with many caves in it. Riley soon joined me, as well as Shelby and Kendall who drove my jeep here. "Any sign of them?" Shelby asked.
"There's a cave over..." I started, but I stopped when I saw a figure rushing out of the cave.
"Koda?" Kendall asked.
"Koda!" I yelled, gaining his attention. He ran towards us. His shirt was all torn and he was covered in dirt, he also had a kid in his hands.
"He need doctor." Koda told Kendall as he handed the barely conscious kid to Kendall.
"I'll get him to a hospital." Kendall said and hurried over to my jeep to drive the kid to a hospital.
"Koda, where are Chase and Bella?" Riley asked.
"Still both trapped in mountain." Koda replied. I bit the inside of my cheek, to keep myself from rushing inside the cave and finding Bella myself.
"Trapped? By who?" Shelby asked, clearly worried about her friends.
"Him. Slammer." Koda growled with venom in his voice that I've never heard before. We all turned to follow his case and saw a monster ready to fight.
"Hey rangers! Thanks for coming! How about you stay a while? Or in this case, forever! Cage time!" Slammer yelled. He tossed one of his cages towards us and Koda jumped into action. He stopped the cave from landing around us by catching it. "Hey! Let go of that!" Slammer said and Koda tossed the cage aside, causing Slammer to fall off of the ledge.
"It's morphin time! Dino charger!" Koda commanded and pulled out his dino charger.
"Ready!" We all followed his lead. Our morphers appeared in our hands and we loaded them up. "Energize, Unleash the power!"
"Tyrannosaurus Rex, Power Ranger red!" I started our introductions while taking my stance.
"Stegosaurus, Power Ranger blue!" Koda continued.
"Velociraptor, Power Ranger green!" Riley said.
"Triceratops, Power Ranger pink!" Shelby finished our introductions.
"Dinosaur might, ready to fight!" We all said together.
"Power Rangers..." I started. "Dino charge!" The others finished.
"It's about to get wild!" I exclaimed and we ran into a battle against Slammer.
Back Inside the Cave
Bella's POV
Chase and I were sitting on the ground again, waiting for someone to rescue us. It's been a while since Slammer visited us. I heard faint sounds of roaring and drilling. "You hear that Chase?" I asked.
"I know that sound." Chase commented and I nodded, agreeing with him. A big zord's tail drilled its way into the cave and I grinned. "Thanks Tricera."
"Way to go Tricera." I said, glad the zord came to rescue us. She roared at us and she used her tail to push the cages off of us. She stuck her nose into the hole and Chase and I climbed up on her head. Once we were settled, she pulled back and we saw the others fighting a Mega-Slammer with the Stego-Raptor Megazord. After a few final punches and attacks, Slammer exploded. After the fight, we all calmly walked back to base. Well, we all started to and Chase ran off to grab his skateboard from the park. "He's not going to get my bike is he?" I asked no one in particular. They all laughed and shook their heads. I groaned. Tyler tossed his jeep's keys to Shelby.
"Come on Bella. I'll give you a ride there with the Dino cycle." Tyler reassured me and I grinned. He summoned the Dino cycle and the others headed off to base. I climbed on the bike behind him. I wrapped my arms around Tyler's torso and I felt him stiffen underneath my touch. He took off toward the park. After a few minutes, Tyler slowed to a stop and I hopped off of the bike and found my bike sitting where it was. I smiled and climbed on my bike and clipped my helmet on. "Wanna race back?" Tyler asked. "I've heard that your BMX skills have improved over the years." Tyler said. I shrugged.
"Sure, I guess. Why not?" I asked. Tyler got on his Dino cycle and we both rode off. My skill has improved over the years and I kicked up my speed to pedal faster. I jumped over a big rock and cycled back towards base as fast as my legs could take me. By the time I got to base, I saw Tyler waiting there, leaning on his bike, looking all casual. I pressed on the breaks of my bike and slowed to a stop. I was panting hard. "How much did I lose by?" I asked. Tyler shrugged.
"Not by much." Tyler replied. "You got here a few minutes after I did." I smiled and we rolled our bikes to the hidden elevator and down to base.
The next day
I am in a car right now listening to Say You Won't Let Go by James Arthur- sentimental garbage... Well, maybe it's not garbage but it isn't useful.
The car comes to a stop and we reach Sepulveda High, home of the Chargers. As in, the horse not the device for charging a battery or battery charged equipment.
I was ready. After Mom told me that nobody knew me and I could be whatever I wanted, I was going to be super smart- I already was smart, so I was going to be...me. "Bye, honey, have a good day at school!" Mom told me. "Bye Mom, I hope you have a good day too!" I said, walking inside.
When I got inside I was met by a jolly, red haired woman. "Frankie Gaines? I thought you were already in school- off to class with you!" She yelled. "Frankie Gaines? Who's that?" I asked, my eyebrows creased. "Don't play games! Now off to class with you!" She said, "Come on!"
"I'm not Frankie Gaines...whoever that is, I'm Bella Newlin, the transfer." I said.
"Miss Newlin?" She asked. "Yes, it's me!" I said, wow...this lady must be crazy. "Well, Miss Newlin, I'm Miss Hough, the headmistress, follow me to your class." The lady, Miss Hough said. I followed her into a classroom and she introduced me and asked me to tell the class a little bit about yourself, "I am Bella Newlin, I am 17 years old and have a higher IQ than Einstein."
"That's...not possible, Einstein had an IQ of 160 and an average IQ of a 16 year old would be 100-120, if you're smart enough." A girl with black hair said, who was in the front. "Well it is possible...I'll prove it." I said. "Ok, tell me something about me." She said. "You have bags under your eyes which come from lack of sleep and you have stress lines...so I assume you have some sort of test today and you want to keep your grades up because, seeing from your cocky attitude- you have straight A's. Also, your pupils dilated when you saw me so, I assume I look like Frankie Gaines, who you know...and...ooohh! You don't like this...Frankie, I know this because of your body language." I said and the girl scoffs.
"That's not true!" She said quickly, scratching her nose. "Your lying, blood rushes to the centre of our faces when we lie and you scratched your nose...that's the Pinocchio Effect." I said and she shuts up. "Right, if that's all, make sure you make Riley feel at home at Sepulveda!" Miss Hough said then left, closing the door.
"Miss Hallow, take a seat at the back." The teacher said, ushering me to the very back row where two girls where sitting, one blonde and one...me?! "Who the hell are you?" I asked what seemed like my identical twin. "I am Frankie Gaines. Who are you?" Frankie, who looked exactly like me, asked. "I am Bella, why do you look like me?" I asked. "I don't know but you'll have to ask my Mom." Frankie said, weird. Frankie and I kept looking at each-other constantly. She looked like me SO MUCH. Except, it was like her face was strained from emotion and her hair was slightly darker than mine, she had a fringe and her hair was straightened while mine didn't have a fringe and was curly.
Frankie's POV

"Frankie? The lesson is over!" Dayton Reyes told me. "Right...Sorry Dayton Reyes- It's just, Bella Newlin looks exactly like me." I said. "I know, could your Mom have made you look like her?" Dayton asked. "I don't know, maybe." I responded.
