This is Dumb
"This is dumb, I don't get why I have to dance." I complained. Rainn smirked at me.
"Just humor me." She ordered. I sighed. "Now c'mon. Repeat what I do." She ordered. I sighed. She was on break for early morning dance practice. Everyone else was actually eating and resting up. Rainn? She was trying to force me to dance.
"Fine, show me." I motioned for her. She smirked slyly. She carefully danced around. She hit a few really sharp moves and then posed. "Ah geez." I whined.
"Go Ty! Kick her ass!" Fay cheered me on. I gave her an annoyed look. She grinned innocently. I sighed and did my best to copy her moves without stumbling. I was just glad I was a good dancer and could pick up on stuff easy. I followed the moves carefully and posed in front of her. I smirked slyly to her amused expression.
"Alright, so you can do that." Gray hummed slyly. He dropped down behind me, I faced him curiously. "But can you do- this?" Gray hit a few hip-hop dance moves and them the splits. He smirked at me as he was cheered for. He stood quickly and waited for me to go.
"Not so sure about the splits, but I can try." I shrugged. I copied his moves and hit the splits. I winced and laid on my side, making a noise. I was laughed at. I whined and sat up.
"How about this?" Red asked. He twirled across the room, the team cheered for him just like they did for everyone else.
"Maybe??" I whimpered. "Probably not, but cha know." I followed what he did and stumbled at the very end when I stepped wrong. I regained my balance and posed to him. He scoffed. "I tried." I shrugged. "Can I go back to sitting in the corner now?" I whined to Rainn. She snickered and motioned her arm.
"Be my guest." She agreed.
"Cool." I gave her a thumbs up then sat by the bags like normal.
"Tyler?" Coach called. I looked up from my phone. "Could you fill in for Purity again?" She asked, a cute innocent grin on her face. I sighed and stood. I was everyone's fill in when they weren't here. Purity didn't show up again, so I had to fill in.
"Sure." I agreed, I tossed my hat. "Partner." I waved to Red greetingly.
"Partner." He responded, with a small wave. That's how we usually greeted one another in these situations. Since Purity was partnered with him; I was.
"Ready?" Coach turned on the music.
We got in our starting positions; the three partner set; Gray and Grey, Rod and Rainn, and Red and Purity (me, I guess) all stood in front of everyone else. The partner groups had the females and males facing one another, their hands together and them look ready to dance for a ball.
"5, 6, 7, 8!" Rainn cheered as we got to our starting point in the song. As soon as it hit, we were dancing. Our ball room slow dance quickly changed as the boys went into a hip-hop routine together and the girls danced with the rest of the group behind them, when the song changed from slow to quick. We all made sure to smile and act unaffected by the quick movements.
When the song changed again, to a bit slower the partner ships were dancing together. We were dancing kind of formally, but also not really. The males lifted the females a few times and we hit a few moves from different heights. It was a really hard routine, but a lot of dun to dance to. At one point, the boys were back to dancing as a trio and the girls did a bridge-stand to get in front of then to dance together. That was one of the things I had more trouble with, but got the hang of. The girls were hitting a hip-hop routine while the boys did a more formal one and the people to the sides of them did their own part.
Since the routine was already planned, we were simply practicing. Purity came in when the partnerships were back together dancing at a quick-formal rate and the people behind got to do their fancy routine. Each person behind us got a few moments to themselves because they stepped forward, hit a few moves and went back to the group. Once they were done, the entire squad did a few dance moves together and posed. The partner ships were close together, the males holding the females close. The females with their hands against the male's chest and looking up. We were all out of breath. I stared up at Red, trying to stay in character. I felt kind of tense, though, as I always did when this routine was done. He stared back down at me, trying not to breath to hard in my face. I swallowed nervously and tried not to look away.
"Nice work you guys! I have a few corrections to make, but get some water." Coach ordered. We all dispatched from our poses and went to get water, each of us out of breath.
"Thanks for taking my spot again." Purity hissed to me. I shrugged and downed some water.
"You're welcome to have it back." I motioned to the middle of the gym, a sly smirk on my face. She smirked back.
"I would happily take it back. You're not that good anyways." She teased. My eyes rolled.
"Whatever." I shrugged. "At least I show up more often, and I'm not even on the team." I hissed slyly.
"Well, technically, you are, you're just not in any routine." Rainn interrupted. My eyes rolled again.
"Point is, I'm still here more than her." I shrugged. Rainn chuckled.
"Alright, everyone back to positions!" Coach called. I leaned on the wall to watch the corrections to see any mistakes I made that I could improve. Even if I wasn't a regular dancer, it was fun to be apart of. It was also a good stress reliever since my life was practically falling apart at the seems. Coach checked the time. "One more time through then hit the showers. We're meeting after school." She reminded then started the music.
I watched Purity, she was right; she is a way better dancer than me, but she still messed up spots I didn't and was still behind on the routine, which was messing up both her and Red. He was pretty good at cleaning up the sloppiness of Purity's work, though.
"Good enough. Let's hit the showers." Coach ordered and so we were off.
I dried off my hair and tried shaking it out, didn't really help, but it was fun to listen to Fay and Grey whine. I sighed and dried my hair quickly. I was already changed after quickly after awkwardly washing off. I hadn't intended on getting my hair wet, but it happened so I was trying to fix it.
"Tyler, can I talk to you?" Coach asked from the office. I had to admit, my curiosity was intrigue, so I went to see what she wanted. I closed the door behind me.
"Did I do something?" I frowned worriedly.
"No, not at all." Coach smiled amusedly. I nodded hesitantly. "I was wondering, if I move Purity, since she seems to be having trouble with this routine, would you take her place? Do you have any interest?"
"Oh, I really don't think I should take Purity's place." I nervously laughed and waved my hands back and forth. "I could help teach her, but I'm really no good at being on stage." I whimpered.
"I've already talked to Purity, she already said she was unhappy with her spot. She's agreed to give it up. Since you know the routine, I want to give it to you." Coach explained carefully. "Purity knows the further back part of the dance and had decided she's more comfortable with it."
"O-oh..." My hands shuffled nervously.
"Tell you what, think about it until tonight's practice. If you decide against it, I'll ask one of the other girls. If you want to, we'll get you fitted in an outfit. Alright?" Coach asked sweetly. I nodded. Being in a major part of a routine? I'm not that good- sure, I know it, but why ask me?! I nervously chewed my lip. "You should go eat breakfast." She ordered. I nodded and left the office. I sighed with relief once I closed the door.
"What was that about?" Fay asked noisily.
"None of your business." I stuck my tongue out at her.
"Coach wants to give you my spot, huh?" Purity smirked at me. My eyes flickered around nervously. "At least it's to someone who's decent. You should go for it." She instructed.
"O-oh, are you sure." My hands nervously fidgeted.
"Very." She nodded.
"Okay," I nodded, smiling wearily. "Thanks." She nodded.
"Come on, let's go meet up with everyone else, tell them the news." She used her thumb to point to the door. I nodded in agreement. I ran off, grabbed all my stuff and followed.
"Coach wants you to what? You're not even that good." Gray laughed at me. I glared at him.
"Gee, thanks." I hissed sarcastically. He grinned and defensively raided his hands.
"At least I don't have to completely reteach someone the routine." Red shrugged. He got a smirk from Rod and glared.
"Yeah." I nervously rubbed my neck and shifted. I really wasn't so sure about this.
"You two are still gonna have to practice privately to get good." Rod hummed, he had a sly hint to his tone.
"Dude!" Red hissed.
"I'm just saying." Rod laughed.
"He really isn't wrong." Rainn shrugged.
"Yeah, you guys will need some extra practice." Grey nodded. Red rolled hid eyes. I shrugged.
"I think I can handle it." I responded.
"Right, c'mon let's go eat." Gray snickered, rubbing my head and then leading the group off. My eyes rolled as I followed.
I sighed and slowly stood. It was time for math, which I wasn't looking forward to. It had been my week and I was back. I walked in, staring a few feet ahead of me. I sat in my normal spot and laid my head down tiredly. I heard shuffling around me. I stared at the blackness engulfing my vision and clouding my mind. I felt a hand on my shoulder and sat up. Purrity had a worried look. I looked away and laid my head down again.
"I'm sorry about Sin." She whispered. I shrugged simply. She sighed and walked off.
"Tyler, I want you to move by Grey." Teach ordered. I lazily moved and hid my face. The only thing I could think about was dance, Sin and my family. Grey rubbed my back gently once in a while.
"So you agreed to this without telling me?" 爸爸 (Bàbà) sighed. I shrugged, I was talking to him at lunch. "You're grounded, remember?" He reminded annoyedly.
"First you get mad because I don't participate in anything, now you're mad because I am." I pointed out. He stared at me. "Can't I at least have this? It's not like I have anything else to look forward to." My arms waved.
"Stop acting so miserable." He hissed quietly. I laughed.
"I'm not acting." I hissed. I turned to storm off.
"Fine, you can have this one thing, but you're still grounded." He hissed.
"Fine." I agreed and then walked off.
"You're doing it wrong!" Red sighed. He had a hand in his hair as he watched me. He had a frustrated expression on his face.
"It's harder when I'm going slow!" I whined. He sighed.
"Let me show you." He grumbled. He carefully showed me the part, once again. He walked me through it once and then I tried. "There! Perfect! Do it again!" He ordered, and so I did. "Now we're making progress!" He grinned. I stared at him for a moment, a nervous feeling festering. I had felt it all day and wasn't sure why. I looked away. "Okay, lets put everything together." He ordered.
"Yeah, okay." I nodded, shyly looking away.
"Huh? Are you okay?" Red had a slightly annoyed tone laced in with his confusion.
"Oh- y-yeah." I nodded nervously as I looked back to him. "Let's just get back to dancing." I waved my hands in a slight panic. He stared suspiciously, but nodded. We practiced together, until Rainn came to get us to work with everyone else.
Even with being exhausted, I did my best to keep up and not look sloppy. Gray actually said I did better, which was a compliment from him. By the end of practice; I was very proud of myself and energy less.
I was laying on one of the benches waiting for 爸爸 (Bàbà) to not take forever. I was resting, my body already hurt so I knew tomorrow would be worse.
"Hey," Red walked over. He had a pretty serious tone. I looked up at him curiously. "I want you to practice some more tonight. If you don't improve by tomorrow, I'll know you didn't practice and you will be in trouble." He warned, a creepy cold expression on his face.
"Dude, chill I'll practice, okay?" I whined. My hands raised defensively.
"Good."
"Let's go!" 爸爸 (Bàbà) called, walking out of the school. So we all got in the car to go home.
