Mini-Adventure
(NOTE: I DO NOT OWN NICKELBACK OR THEIR MUSIC, I literally just used their music. All song creds go to them. I also do not own the other song mentioned. All credits to musicians and publishing companies.)
"So why exactly do I have to crushed by this idiot?" I pointed at Red with my thumb annoyedly. He sent me a flashy smirk. I glared at him annoyedly. Purity giggled.
"Sorry, Tyler." Rainn hummed to me. I doubted she meant it, she was to busy playing with Rod's hands. Her dad had a surprisingly huge car, Fay, Gray, Grey, Purity, Rod, Red, Rainn, her dad, and I all fit. I was quiet impressed. The car was much larger than her mom's.
I watched out the window. At least he smelled nice, I guess. My fingers tapped on the arm impatiently.
Fay was dropped off first, she lived in a pretty small house. It was really cool, nice and kept. Her older brother, who apparently was her legal guardian, thanked 爸爸 (Bàbà) for the ride. Everyone seemed pretty excited to see him. I just tried to hide. I wasn't very good at that, especially since Rainn pointed me out.
"Wait-wait wait wait! You gotta meet Tyler!" Rainn giggled enthusiastically. SHIT! I mentally screamed.
"Tyler? Oh, your foster sib?" He asked. His head peered back through the window curiously.
"Don't touch me! Don't touch me!! DON'T FUCKING TOUCH ME!" I yelled at Purity.
"LANGUAGE!" 爸爸 (Bàbà) snapped. Purity was laughing. She had literally dragged me to sit up with her nasty ass hands. I tried to squish away into the corner of the car. Fay's brother laughed. My face was red with embarrassment.
"Pleasure to meet cha Tyler! I gotta go! Catch ya losers later!" He grinned. He dropped off the side of the car. We left.
"I literally want to throw myself out of this moving car." I muttered.
"Poor puppy!" Red snickered. My head was pet. I elbowed him in the ribs. He was at a loss of breath.
"Don't ever call me that." I hissed my warning. I huffed and looked back out the window. I rested my head on my hand. Walking would've been so much cooler. It's so sunny.
Gray was dropped off next, Grey went with him. Chip was at Yale's house, or the other way around, or something. It didn't really matter to me, as long as they all got home. My leg tapped impatiently. Everyone was talking. They were all so excited, talking over one another about some important thing. The worst thing was; they were talking over the radio. I couldn't hear anything being played or said. It was bad enough I was stuck with new, crappy radio stations, but now I couldn't even hear them. I sighed in defeat. Red and Purity had moved from the spots next to me. I was no longer being crushed to the car, I was comfortably positioned.
I was ignored, that didn't bug me much. I was used to moments like this. Moments of being invisible. My family and these people always treated me the same way. I was scrolling through my phone anyway.
Purity was dropped off, finally. She was no longer there to bug me and annoy me. I think the worst part of her leaving, though, was right before she got out of the car she told Red they were "breaking up." He just agreed to it and she ran off. He seemed unaffected, but that was pretty dumb to me.
"You okay, bro?" Rod asked concernedly. Red simply shrugged and went to another topic. I watched the little flame on his head, it moved around different than usual, and was an unusual color. I frowned curiously. I went back to staring at the window. Rainn and Rod joined Red on the topic.
Finally, the twins were dropped off. Rainn had given both boys an extremely long hug. I had simply waved and moved closer to the front. They returned the wave and smiled. Rod was walking with Red into their apartment building. Rod's arm was slung on his twin's shoulder. They were talking as they left. Rainn sat next to me. She sent me a smile. I gave her a small one and looked back at my phone. The radio was turned up. Rainn and her father sang to it as we drove away, neither were on pitch. I was about half listening. My leg bounced to the beat. I continued to text Nas.
My eyes glanced up at the radio box when one of my favorite songs came on, "Lullaby" by Nickelback. "Ugh, Dad change it!" Rainn whined.
"Please don't!" I blurted without thinking. Rainn looked at me confusedly. I looked at the floor, feeling subconscious.
"I know the feeling, of finding yourself stuck out on the ledge and there ain't no healing; from cuttin' yourself with the jagged edge..." The radio sung gently. I smiled sadly. Mom, Pulse, Max, and I always used to sing Nickelback together. "I'm tellin' you that it's never that bad and take it from someone who's been where your at. You're laid out on the floor and you're not sure you can take this anymore..."
"Do you want me to keep the station?" 爸爸 (Bàbà) spoke over the music.
"It- uh, doesn't matter, I guess." I muttered quietly. "Sorry, it's just that Mom, Pulse, and I always sung together when it came to this band and like, my earliest memory of singing was with this band to. It's just a bunch of memories. It really doesn't matter, you can change it." I spoke quickly, fumbling one word over the other.
"And you can't tell, I'm scared as hell, 'cause I can't get you on the telephone. So just close your eyes. Well, honey here comes a lullaby, your very own lullaby..." 爸爸 (Bàbà) was staring at me through the mirror.
"Keep it." Rainn grinned slyly. I glanced at her with slight panic. I wasn't expecting that. She smiled sweetly to me. I smiled sheepishly and looked at the floor. I felt totally embarrassed and more awkward than normal.
"So just give it one more try, with a lullaby and turn this up on the radio! If you can hear me now, I'm reachin' out to let you know that you're not alone!" The radio beamed. Some of my favorite parts had been talked over.
"And you can't tell, I'm scared as hell 'cause I can't get you on the telephone. So just close your eyes. Well, honey here comes a lullaby. Your very own lullaby. Well, everybody's hit the bottom and everybody's been forgotten. Well, everybody's tired of being alone. Yeah, everybody's been abandoned and left a little empty handed, so if you're out there barely hangin', on; Just give it one more try, with a lullaby and turn this up on the radio. If you can hear me now, I'm reachin' out, to let you know that you're not alone! And you can't tell, I'm scared as hell, 'cause I can't get you on the telephone! So just close your eyes... Well, honey here comes a lullaby... Your very own lullaby... Well, honey here comes a lullaby... Your very own lullaby..." At some point I had quietly joined, then I got lost within the music. I sang out. I wasn't thinking. How foolish of me. The song ended, I realized how dumb I must've sounded. I stared at the floor silently. The radio went to commercial.
"Alright, into the store we go. Then we're gonna go get dinner." 爸爸 (Bàbà) announced. I slid out of the car, being used to going out the right side. I had literally had a door right next to me, but it was habit.
"You know there was literally a door-" Rainn started.
"Habit." I cut her off quickly. She smiled amusedly. We followed 爸爸 (Bàbà).
"Come on pleeeeeeeeeaaaassseee?" Rainn whined. She was beginning for some crap snack.
"No," 爸爸 (Bàbà) huffed. She whined as she pouted. I was looking around the large store as we shopped. I was curious. My legs shifted as I waited impatiently. They had a totally different diet from me, they were picking up tons of things I'd never eat; Brussels Sprouts, Seaweed, a bunch of weird green stuff, healthy food that was gross, stuff like that. I preferred donuts, ding dongs, ice cream, soup, fruits, and vegetables, stuff like that. I sighed quietly. I couldn't hear the stores radio, music was my calming mechanism and now it was gone.
"C'mon, Tyler!" Rainn cheered gleefully, she had won. I followed. I looked at the cart, my nose scrunched. Rainn was giggling and twirling excitedly. She talked away about how her day was. I barely listened. My hands tapped to the rhythm in my head. I hummed the music playing in my mind. I smiled sadly, I was humming the song from when I was a baby, the one that put me to sleep every night. "Return to Pooh Corner" by Kenny Loggins. Another memory. I smiled and scoffed at the thought, why was it funny?
"What's so funny?" Rainn hissed. She was in my face. I dismissively glanced up.
"None of your business." I mocked. She huffed.
"That's cold." She whined. I smiled amusedly. I chased after 爸爸 (Bàbà). Rainn followed.
"There's so much to be done, count all the bees in the hive~ chase all the clouds from the sky~!" I mumble sang. I smiling like a child. I enjoyed this moment and all the memories. All the times I went to sleep so late, all the times Pulse, Neo, and I played around after going to "bed." The time I stood on the only CD player we had, then when I broke it because I stood on it. That was a great memory except the fact I got in so much trouble.
"Tyler!" Rainn yelled in my ear.
"What?" I whined panickedly.
"What snack do you want?" She huffed annoyedly. "We're getting you food now." She reminded.
"Oh, sweet." I grinned evilly. I was grabbing things I ate, mostly junk foods. They already had some fruits.
"What the actual heck?" Rainn whined.
"Sin is gonna need some food too," I mumbled contemplatively. 爸爸 (Bàbà) stared at me with absolute horror. "What?" I asked confusedly.
"So much junk food..." He whimpered. I looked at the cart and shrugged. It wasn't as much as it could've been.
"Can we get Sin dog food?" I asked. He nodded. We went to get Sin food.
"What's for dinner?" Rainn asked cutely. She was shifting in her seat a lot. She was also texting. Her legs were shifting excitedly. I was watching her boredly. The radio was even quieter than before.
"Food," 爸爸 (Bàbà) replied. I snickered. Just like my dad. I smiled sadly.
"Funny," Rainn scoffed. Her eyes rolled, but she was smiling. I grinned childishly. She glanced at me and smiled slightly. I looked out the window quickly. The car had a ton of groceries and junk, but we were getting dinner first, since that was pretty logical.
I face planted into the couch. Sin attacked me excitedly. He was already talking away. He was excited I was back and that we were going home for the weekend tomorrow. I pet his head and grinned. I had already fed him, eaten, and put away all the groceries. Now I was just trying to relax. I had homework to do, a shower to take, and sleep to get. I was doing none of that. I sighed heavily. Responsibilities or comfort? I lazily slid off the couch. I went to my room, responsibilities.
