Fear
May P.O.V.
"This is part two of the practice test. You have to overcome your fears. Ok?" Nat told me.
"Got it."
"So.... what are you afraid of?"
"I don't know. You?"
"Fine, I'll just have to test you."
At the moment I had no idea what I was in for.
---------
"Heights?" I heard Nat say over the speaker as the floor showed a holographic image of the vast ocean thousands of feet below me.
"You're talking to the girl who used to run across rooftops as part of her job." I told her.
"Spiders?" She asked as a bunch of mechanical spiders came out of the walls.
"I used to live in a crappy apartment in Queens. I'd give up on the creepy critters if I were you. Except badgers, those things are scary. Not my worst fear though." I replied. It want on like this for a while.
"Snakes?"
"Nope."
"Public speaking?"
"Nadda."
"Dogs?"
"Had one when I was 8."
"That what are you afraid of?"
Fire. I thought, but no matter how much I trusted them they could never know about my past. So instead I said
"I don't know. Can we take a break? I'm starving."
"Sure we'll start up on this again tomorrow. I think Tony is cooking."
"Tony is cooking? I think I have a better chance running from the Avengers all my life than i do surviving his cooking."
"It's mostly JARVIS, don't worry."
"Okay."
------------------
The next day I remember school, my mom, and the fact that I don't have an excuse for being gone for this long. I end up telling the team my dilemma.
"We'll explain it to her." Clint suggests.
"No. She'll kill me if she finds out."
"Just say you were at a friends house." Tony chimes in.
"Thats actually really smart." I tell him
"You sound surprised."
"I am. Thanks. Gotta go." I yell running toward the window.
"Bye" They all yell. They probably put a tracker on me if they let me leave that easily. I'll get rid of it once I get home.
--Home--
"May! Where have you been? I was worried sick. I can't lose you too." Right as my mom said that last sentence I was filled with guilt. I could't go back to the Avengers, no matter how much I wanted to see them.
"I'm sorry mom. I was at a friend's house."
"Fine, just don't do it again."
"I won't."
"Go to school. If you miss a day you don't get to help that friend with homework anymore."
Oh mom, how I wish that were true.
"Ok, bye mom."
--School--
While walking to school I saw another kid that gets bullied a lot. I think his name Peeta Parker? Peter Parker, not Peeta.
While thinking of that his name was I didn't see him ram right into me.
"Oh my gosh. I am so sorry. Are you ok?" he asked me.
"I'm fine. You?"
"I'm good."
I looked down to see his papers strewn across the sidewalk.
"It was my fault. So sorry." I say leaning down to pick up his papers.
"No it was my fault. I wasn't looking where I was going." He says leaning down to help me.
Once all the papers were picked up I realized something.
"We have first period together, right?"
"Oh yeah, science."
"Wanna walk together?"
"Sure."
