I stumbled into my mother's bedroom that warm morning to see her at gunpoint. I can't remember the face, just the gun. I jumped in front of her catching the bullet in my mouth. My head knocked back onto the bed, a fuzzy ceiling. The lead breaks under my teeth. The shards fly down my throat. I feel it swell and I can't see. I can't remember much after that.
