CLICHE- B. BARNES
pairings: bucky barnes x reader
warnings: mentions of a cold
about: kissing in the rain sounds like a great, romantic idea until you get a stupid cold.
a/n: short, i know. idk what to write
the feelings could have drowned you.
that was the only excuse that could make your nerves settle and the tingling in your lips stop as they moved against bucky's. how else would you defend kissing your best friend in the rain after revealing your hefty feelings to him?
you could vaguely make out the sound of the pattering rain and the cold of the droplets that splatter and soak through your shirt, coldly licking your skin. every single one of your senses is invaded by him- one of your hands pressing into the back of his neck and the other tracing the shape of his jaw line as he squeezes your waist, making butterflies erupt from the touch of his hands. your nose drags along his cheek when he tugs you closer to his body until you can feel the warmth of his front mixing with the chill of your soaked shirts. through the fresh scent of petrichor, you can smell bucky, making your eyes flutter shut and your wet lashes press to your dampened cheekbones. you can barely hear when the clouds are pounding water on both you and the floor and all you can taste is him; his lips and his skin and the love that he pours into you. through your shut eyes, you can picture the cyan of his irises when you told him you were in love with him, and the way his lips parted in realization, his gaze planting you in the path of the rain and urging you to continue spilling hopeless romantic tales. god, he could've had you tell him anything if he looked at you like that.
everything about the scene read like an overused cliche. it was straight out of the movies you rewatched with him, crying over the scenes you'd seen so many times but made you hiccup either way because you so desperately wanted what was on screen. you ran over the lines of your confession like the dialogue from your favorite movie, not clueless enough to not see the clear parallelisms and hoping that the reaction would be similar too.
the relief dripped down your face with the raindrops when he reached out to you, holding you still and telling you words you didn't need to hear, able to see them clear in his eyes and the tenderness of his fingers when they brought your chin closer to his.
it was a fairytale.
which was what made it so much worse and ironic when you woke up next to him the next day, feeling incredibly cold even with the covers tugged up to your shoulders and the heat of bucky's body pressed against yours, hand already wiping at your sniffling nose.
"you're kidding," you mumble when you sneeze for the fifth time in a row, eyes flickering up to your new boyfriend carefully carrying tea into your room. "how are you feeling?" he asks, looking up at you for a few seconds before bringing his eyes back down to the tea, making sure none of it spilled over as he pushes the door closed with his hip. "like shit," you respond honestly, not quite feeling ready to let him know the illness was lightened just the slightest by the fact that you had the man you were pining over taking care of you.
bucky frowns, setting down your favorite mug on your bedside table and pressing his knuckles against your forehead, absentmindedly rubbing his thumb right above your eyebrow. "'guess kissing in the rain isn't such a good idea, huh?"
you manage a laugh, leaning against the warm touch of his fingers on your skin. "the movies always conveniently leave out the effects for a non super-soldier," you agree.
"but at least my super soldier can take care of me each time," you smile, pouting when his fingers leave your face. "you planning on doing that again?" he asks, raising an eyebrow as he mixes sugar into the tea. "what, kissing you?" you tilt your head, eyes crinkling when he adds the exact amount of sugar you do, "hell yeah."
