16 : Rodna's Origin
After our little... debate, Moridax let us stay in his den until we left. It was a small little cave, but it was better than sleeping outside in the open. Not to mention the dangers of being spotted in enemy territory.
"Moridax..." I cautiously began. "We came here to find you because of something."
"Eh?" He looked to me. His eyes were still hard, but there was a kindness there. Perhaps he really did appreciate us retrieving his tailbone.
Instead of speaking, I pulled the seed out of the pouch tied around my side. It pulsed with a faint glow, seeming brighter since we were in a dark cave.
Moridax's orb eyes widened, and he held his hand out. I gently placed it on his skeletal palm. "Impossible..." He shook his head, studying the seed.
"What's impossible?" Nota lifted her head in our direction.
"These seeds simply shouldn't be here..." He explained. "They came from Pluita, The Dragon Goddess of Earth, Nature, and Life. There's a legend that she fell in love with a mortal dragon, and they had an egg together. They name their unborn hatchling Rodna."
"What happened?" Kintes perked up, interested.
"Molira, Queen and Dragon Goddess of Darkness, happened." Moridax frowned. "She has believed that Gods were such a superior being that to share an egg with a mortal was an insult and a sin. She slaughtered Pluita's mate and smashed her egg to six pieces.
"The grieving Godess Pluita picked up the egg shells and transformed them into seeds. She planted them in the Garden of the Dragon Gods, and they grew into something."
"What did the seeds grow?" Nota cocked her head to the side.
"The Tree of Balance. Pluita's idea was that the unfair evil that was brought upon her would never happen again." Moridax looked back to me. "I don't know how, but someone must've found the garden and dug up one of the seeds before they grew."
"I found a scroll in Grilop's den explaining that the seeds could forge extremely strong armor or weapons." Nota chimed in. "It also said if you crushed the seed, their juice can be used for healing, if applied directly to a wound."
"But it sounds like it could also be a part of something much larger." I chewed my lip in thought. "Maybe... the reason the Blood Wars even occurred was because the Tree of Balance was missing one of the seeds. Maybe it isn't strong enough."
"That would make sense." Kintes nodded. "The Suns of Kirah, the attack in Vulcen, Queen Hyla's rein, I mean, the war itself was proof."
"Wait, how do you know about the Suns of Kirah?" I blinked.
"Nota caught me up." He shrugged.
"The Tree could also be weakened." Nota suggested. "You said that Molira smashed the egg in the first place. If Pluita planted the seeds opposing Molira, than I guarantee she isn't happy with the Tree."
"You're right." I nodded. "Maybe the Tree isn't strong enough against Molira, especially if she's focusing on destroying it."
"If." Moridax reminded. "This is all theoretical. We don't even know if there is a Tree of Balance."
We all fell silent for a moment. "Why did Grilop point is in this direction?" Nota looked at me, equally as confused.
"I don't know..." I admitted. The sun was beginning to dip below the horizon, and the last slivers of golden light were trailing away from the cave wall. "I don't know..."
