The Arrival
"I don't really know, it's fuzzy.", Harry replied.
"Try Harry", Hermione said softly
"Fine, I'll try.", Harry said. "Let's see," "Well, um, there was this voice, it kept whispering to follow it, it said things, like curses or stuff, but it's like it wiped my memory clean, I can't remember a thing."
As Hermione comforted Harry and gave him more chocolate, Neville shook his head, not daring to believe it. Who else could enter Harry's mind like that, who else had a cold, whispering voice?
"Neville, quickly, they're about to leave!", Hermione squealed, waking Neville from his nightmare.
Neville looked up just in time to see the express, it's engines rumbling, spewing smoke from the metal wheels, and beckoning him to to get to a seat, before they were all gone. He said goodbye to Harry and Hermione, Harry still sitting on the ground, and left to pack his stuff onto the train. He waved as Harry and Hermione slowly faded from view and he was left quite alone, once more.
While Neville was pondering Harry's mysterious vision, His children and their friends had other plans. Rose and Hugo were having a conversation about Teddy. Scorpius and Albus were having an animated whispering conversation about who knows what. James was telling River all about how scary Hogwarts is. Lily and Dynasty were giggling and blushing at anyone who walked by. Finally Rose broke the tense clutter of words.
Taking a deep breath she spoke, "This week my father passed away.", She took another breath and continued, "His funeral was yesterday."
Everybody sat solemnly, facing Rose. Hugo had beads of tears in the corners of his soft eyes.
"We need to find Teddy.", She finished.
Everybody sat silently waiting for her to continue, but she didn't respond. She just stared out at them with glassy eyes. Together, the 8 children made their way to the Prefect's carriage. They looked into each of the windows, before knocking softly on the checkerboarded curtain carriage. Inside, they saw a thin, scrawny boy with messy, brown hair. He had a short, thin nose and a plucky frame. His ears were slightly pointed, to resemble a dog's. His face was contorted to make it look like an eagle, then a duck, then a pig, then a dog. He had inherited the power to be Metamorphmaji from his mother, Nympadora Tonks. Tonks preferred to be called by her surname, Tonks, only. However, Tonks had passed away 20 years ago, along with his father, Remus Lupin (who was a werewolf). He was crying.
"Teddy?", Rose said cautiously.
Teddy's face returned to it's normal state. He silently gestured to the empty seats in the carriage. He, then brushed the tears away from his face and said, rather irritably, "What do you want?"
"Teddy we're really sorry about Victoire", Rose said softly.
"It doesn't matter how sorry anybody is.", Said Teddy, more tears welling in his round eyes. "It won't bring her back."
"Teddy you have to put that behind you right now for the sake of you and us.", Lily said, sounding sincere. The minute she saw the look on his face, she knew she had said the wrong thing.
As Teddy wiped his face with his hands he spoke, "You don't understand.", he said quietly, then louder, "You don't get it, do you!?", He began to shake uncontrollably, "You don't know what it's like to be all alone, to not have anyone!", He shouted.
"Teddy, please be quiet, you're not alone, you have us and you have Harry.", Rose said trying to calm him down.
Teddy got more quiet, than he was before, then he said softly, "I don't have any true family.", he swallowed, "I'm all alone."
Without caring about what people would think about it, Rose hugged Teddy. He did not persist. He stared straight ahead and let her hug him. Slowly, Lily hugged him too, then Hugo and Albus, then James and Scorpius, Then River and Dynasty. The kids sat there for several minutes, before Hugo told Teddy, "You're never alone, we are your family."
Finally, after the tense silence that followed, Rose continued her speech,
"Now that we have Teddy, I would like to propose an organization.", she said.
"You mean like the one our dads were in!", said Albus excitedly.
"Erm, I don't think I should come.", Scorpius said quietly, "I mean everyone hates me because of my family.", he added.
"All of us are going to be in it together, whether we like it or not!", Rose said firmly.
"I think we should call it Potter's Army, after Harry.", She finished.
As the plump witch rolled by with the trolley, they each bought a goblet of Pumpkin Juice.
"To Harry!", they said together, "And to Potter's Army"
They raised their glasses high and drank deeply, something told them that this was the beginning of a very bright era.
"All right.", Rose said , "We need to find someplace to meet."
"Dad told me there was a place in the castle, a room that no one else could see. They used it for D.A. meetings.", Albus piped in.
"Oh yeah, The Room of Requirement!", River said excitedly, "It would be perfect."
"It's on the seventh floor corridor.", James said, "That's off limits."
"Why?", Albus asked, "And how do you know?", He added suspiciously.
"Little brother, I have friends, your big brother knows a few things.", James said, ruffling Albus's hair.
"Now Al, you have to learn to sneak past the rules of Hogwarts Castle.", James continued slyly.
"Look, we'll find out at Hogwarts. Right now we all need rest.", Rose interrupted, "Especially Teddy.", she added softly.
Teddy's face was still tearstained and he was looking solemn.
"C'mon, everyone let's get to the carriages, we're about to arrive.", she finished.
She hugged Teddy goodbye and exited the carriage with the others. As they departed, they traipsed slowly down the corridor, back to the small carriage they all shared. The girls departed to the other End Carriage to change. The boys departed to the opposite End Carriage to change. Once they were all in their Hogwarts robes, they sat back down in their carriage. They were all silent, until Lily yelled quite shrilly, "Look there!", "It's Hogwarts!"
The children looked outside excitedly. Hoping for the best view of the enormous castle. When they had arrived, they heard the huge metal wheels of the Hogwart's Express screech to a halt. They hustled out the doors as a crowd and they waited for Teddy silently outside the train. Finally, he departed the train car and followed them to get into a carriage.
"See you in a bit, little brother.", Dynasty called after River, as he made his way nervously into one of the boats with Hagrid.
The rest of them rode in the wooden carriages up the sloping hill to the intimidating exterior, that was Hogwart's Castle. Once they were inside, they were led into the enormous great hall by none other than Griphook, the goblin. Their fathers and mothers knew this goblin very well. He had taken over for Argus Filch, as caretaker at Hogwarts Castle, after he resigned, and later died of old age. His cat, Mrs. Norris, died with him and they were buried together.
They took their seats at the appropriate tables and waited. As they waited for Professor Thomas to bring the sorting hat in, they noticed that the headmaster's seat was not filled with the usual, Ileus Arhan.
"Where's the headmaster?", Albus whispered to Dynasty, as they watched the stool, where the old school sorting hat would soon sit.
"No idea.", Dynasty whispered back.
Soon the sorting had begun, as students began to file along to their house tables. It finally came time for River to place the hat on his head. He took a deep breath. Everyone watched, they were still as statues. Finally, the hat made it's decision. Dynasty held her breath.
"RAVENCLAW!", the hat shouted at the crowd.
River shyly made his way to the cheering Ravenclaw crowd. Dynasty gave him a thumbs up as he walked, he gave her a weak smile and sat. Everyone got quiet as a wizard in Lilac colored robes appeared, striding over to the podium at the middle of the staff table.
He had a kind, soft face. His eyes twinkled cheerily. He had a short, stout nose. His head was oval shaped and had a pinkish tint on both pointed cheeks. The best part of his features was the marvelous mustache that reached almost to his waist.
When he reached the podium he spoke in such a soft, relaxed voice, it sounded as though tiny birds were chirping outside the nearest window. "Today, I have a most important announcement.", he said seriously.
There was an outbreak of nervous whispering.
"This year, Harry Potter has agreed to take my place as headmaster, for reasons between him and I only."
The whispering became excited and Albus, Dynasty, Scorpius, James, Hugo, Teddy, Rose, Lily, and River exchanged looks of utter disbelief from separate tables.
Harry walked in looking serious and solemn, a blank sort of look in his eyes. He twitched and the look was gone. He stood at the podium and said, "Thank you for welcoming me to your humble school." "As you all know I went to school here with my friends as well. I did go and meddle and investigate in things that were most often none of my business, however I do not want you to do anything of the sort, the seventh floor corridor is out of bounds as well as the forbidden forest and any Weasley joke products are banned."
"Another thing.", he continued, "We have a new care of magical creatures, teacher."
"Professor Lovegood, would you please take a bow, as we welcome you to Hogwarts."
Luna Lovegood stood and bowed slightly, then she sat back down quietly.
"Thank you again and without further ado, Tuck in!", Harry finished.
Suddenly plates of heaping chicken and peas, Pie and Pudding, Large bowls of mashed potatoes, even goblets of ice cold pumpkin juice appeared.
Potter's Army exchanged a few more confused looks before digging into the wonderful food set before them.
