Mystery
~Luke's POV~
Snuggled up in my onesie, I clicked open the feed, a daily routine now. When it popped up, I was mystified to see Tillie standing in the middle of their bedroom, fists clenching and unclenching as tears streamed down her face. What on Earth had happened? Suddenly she collapsed to the floor, cupping her face as she cried. Alarmed, I glanced around their room to see if there were any clues to the cause of her distress. Finding nothing out of the ordinary, I returned my attention to Tillie. She glanced at a mannequin standing in the corner, a mostly finished dress resting on its sturdy shoulders, and broke into fresh tears.
Uncomfortable and on edge with the fact that I could do nothing to help her, I scrubbed my face wearily, my very bones feeling heavy. "I'm an idiot.." She trailed off, sighing as she hiccupped. Standing slowly, she went to the dress and ran her fingers over it, smiling slightly at the beauty of it. "It's incredible." It must be Fern's work, I knew, but I couldn't help wondering what Fern had to do with Tillie crying. Had they had a fight?
"Luke?" I looked up to see Calum standing behind the couch, in an old tee and shorts. Setting the laptop aside, I turned to face him. "Yeah?" He shifted his weight, then pulled something out of his pocket. "I didn't know those shorts had pockets." I randomly blurted, shaken by having watched Tillie cry. The scene of her collapsing to the floor, tears streaming down her face, kept playing in my head. Cal tilted his head, looking at me quizzically for a moment before unfolding the paper and handing it to me.
It was a scribbled address, and I raised my eyes to meet Calum's as I silently asked if it was what I thought it was. He nodded, and I grabbed the laptop, exiting the feed before pulling up Google Maps and typing in the address. He settled next to me, watching as I typed, fingers flying. "How did you get this?" I asked as it loaded, drumming my finger in my impatience. He looked slightly smug as he answered, "I saw it when Fern brought in the mail the other day. Just zoomed in and scribbled fast." "Genius!" I muttered, clicking rapidly when it finally loaded.
Calum and I exchanged a glance, then looked back at the screen. "They're in New York?" I finally asked, though the answer was staring me in the face. "But they're so not.. New York types." I protested. He shrugged, muscles rippling a bit as he brought his knees up to his chest and hugged them. "I know what you mean. But Google doesn't lie." I laughed a bit at that. " 'Google doesn't lie'? That's the best reasoning you can come up with?" He shrugged again, grinning.
Laughing, I leaned back, setting the laptop aside for the time being. "I think I'm in love with her, Calum." I hadn't meant to let the words slip past my lips, but they were true, so I let them hang in the air. He paused for a moment, then asked cautiously, "Which her?" Remembering his interest in Tillie at the beginning of this crazy adventure, I was glad I had fallen for.. "Fern." I clarified, grinning confidentially at his raised eyebrows. He sighed in relief, then tried to cover it with a cough. I laughed at his miserable attempt to hide his feelings, punching his arm lightly as I grinned. "It's okay to admit you have a thing for Tillie, you know."
He shrugged, glancing at me. "I know." He said simply. "What are we talking about, boys?" Michael popped up, then bent over the sofa between us, grinning at each of us in turn. "Nothing much." I replied, knowing that Fern and Tillie were a sore spot for him. His grin stretched even wider. "Good to know that Fern and Tillie are 'nothing much'." I glanced at Calum, who raised an eyebrow. "Did you need something, Micheal?" He asked, subtly sliding the piece of paper back into his pocket. "Actually, I did." He paused for a moment, his grin becoming borderline creepy as he looked between us.
"I'm ordering pizza, what do you guys want?" He finally asked, popping the tension in the room like a balloon. Calum exhaled, looking like he wanted to smack Michael upside the head. "Pepperoni, like always." I nodded, " Me too." Still grinning like a maniac, he straightened up. "By the way," he whispered confidentially, "I know you found their address." He winked. "Good job, Calum." I blinked, not sure what to make of his behavior. "Thanks.." Calum drew the syllables out, looking at Michael as if he was crazy.
Once he'd left, I raised my eyebrows. "What was that about?" He shrugged, replying, "I haven't got a clue."
~Michael's POV~
Hearing a bit of Luke's and Calum's conversation, I decided to be sneaky and see if I could get the scoop. I wasn't obsessed with them like they were, but the two wacky friends brought back good memories of my sister and I. So if Calum and Luke had found them, then I wanted to get in on it.
Creeping into the living room, I saw that they had Google Maps pulled up. 'Aha,' I thought to myself, 'so they definitely found something.' "Fern." Luke said, and I crept closer to hear what they were talking about. I kinda felt like a spy in a spy movie, and I had to smother a laugh at the thought of the black, skin tight uniforms spies usually wore. "It's okay to admit that you have a thing for Tillie." Luke continued. I rolled my eyes. Who were they kidding? We all know that Calum had a thing for Tillie and Luke for Fern. Or maybe it was just obvious to me. I shrugged. Either way, it was time to make my entrance.
"I know." Calum replied, just as I popped up. "What are we talking about, boys?" I grinned at each of them, enjoying the freaked out look they shared. "Not much." Luke replied casually. Grinning widely, I teased, "Good to know Fern and Tillie are 'nothing much'." Trying oh so hard to be subtle, Calum slipped the strip of paper in his pocket as he asked, "Did you need something, Micheal?"
"Actually, I did." I paused, waiting for the tension to build as they became increasingly nervous. It was fun to mess with them. Finally I broke the silence, choosing not to reveal what I wanted. "I'm ordering pizza, what do you guys want?"
