Chapter 7: Revenge is wet

"Ugh...not in my face!"

"What the...Oh my God!"

Matty's early morning slumber is disturbed by a sudden commotion occurring in the dorm. He opens his eyes a little to see Mark stood by his bunk, pulling at the t-shirt he was wearing. It looked wet, so did his bedding.

Through his sleepy eyes, Matty could see Mark trying his best to somehow dry off the sheets with a random sweater.

"Mark...what are you doing?" Kevin asks from the bunk above, his head spilling over the edge of the bed and getting in the way of what Mark was trying to do.

"M...my bed is wet." He exclaims, looking panicked and confused all at once.

"What?... urgh!...Mark, have you wet yourself?" Kevin now raises his voice a little more, getting the attention of far to many room mates for Mark's liking.

'No. Shut up, it's water. I swear it's water." He insists, through clenched teeth, leaning down and smelling his tshirt.

"Oh my God Mark. That's so rank!" Kevin covers his mouth in shock. All this is happening whilst Matty watches from across the dorm from his bed.
He isn't too aware of what is going on, as the fact that his blanket is nestled nicely between his chest and the mattress, seems to be overriding the situation and he is trying to get his head around how it got there.

Matty pushes the blanket deep inside the covers. If Mark was getting grief for his misdemeanor, then he would most definitely get it tenfold if it was discovered he hadn't slept alone.

Whilst all attention was being diverted elsewhere, Matty, quickly and quietly got out of bed and crept to his small case. He's a little surprised to see it slightly open and begins to open it further in order to shove the blanket into the depths of the case, right at the bottom, underneath everything, where there was no danger of it falling out.

As he flips back the lid, he is surprised to see some black boxers with yellow smiley faces over them. He momentarily stops what he is doing and just stares, briefly trying to fathom what they were, before checking he was actually rummaging in the correct case.

Matty wonders whether
he should alert anyone to the findings, but has second thoughts, when he looks over his shoulder to see the attention and grief Mark was getting and decided he didn't want any of that coming his way.

Matty now chooses to push the blanket, along with random underpants to the very bottom of his case, ensuring the zip is pulled firmly closed.

Matty joins the queue in the communal canteen for his breakfast, looking forward to fresh orange juice with his cereal. Something his mother deemed as a luxury and subsequently never brought in.

He settles at an empty table with his juice and crispies, shortly to be joined by Joy, who seemed like she was going to burst as she slammed her tray on the table. "You never guess what?" She begins.

"What?" Matty looks at his friend with a mouthful. This school trip seemed to be full of never ending dramas.

"Ross has got nothing on under his joggers."

Ordinarily, Matty wouldn't have given a flying fig to this aparrant 'news' but the sudden remembrance of a pair of boxers manifesting themselves in his case, made him suddenly feel a little sick. "Joy, how the hell do you know this?"

Joy begins to get overexcited at the anticipation, leaning a little closer to Matty's ear. "Because Aaron Bunce just pulled his joggers down." She instantly pulls her lips into her mouth, as if unsure whether it was acceptable to laugh at another's misfortune, even if the victim was horrid on the daily.

Matty drops his spoon into the cereal bowl, milk splashing over the edge. "I gotta go." He says before hurrying back to his dorm room.

Joy watches him leave. "Matty...Matty!" She calls, before getting up herself to follow her friend. She soon catches up with Matty's hurried steps. "Matty, stop! What's the matter?"

Matty halts in his tracks and looks at Joy. His face showing genuine concern. Matty reaches forward and grabs his friend's wrist. "I gotta show you something..."

The lid of the suitcase opens and Matty pushes one of his sweaters to one side. Both friends now look on at the smiley undies...and the blanket.  Joy frowns at what she is looking at, before slowly reaching the realisation. "Those pants... Oh my god! Did you take Ross' pants?"

Matty puts a hand over Joy's loud mouth. "Shhh will you. No I didn't."

Joy pulls Matty's hand from her mouth. "Then how did they get in there then?" Her voice now a more acceptable level.

"I found them in here this morning, but Joy...." Matty wonders if he should say what he is really thinking. It sounded absolutely crazy. "I think my blanket did it."

"You what?" Joy laughs a little in disbelief at the nonsense spewing from her friend.

Matty straightens his back, readjusting his legs, to sit on the back of them. He reaches forward to pull the blanket from the case. "My blanket... Joy, I woke up with it in my bed this morning and I'd buried it deep at the bottom of my bag...and I didn't even pack it to begin with. I decided to leave it at home, but it showed up in my bag."

Joy looks momentarily at the seemingly ordinary looking brown raggedy material in Matty's hand. "Let me look at it." She asks.

He hands the comforter to his friend. Joy holds it up to the light with both hands. It definitely looked worse for wear. "So...what you're trying to tell me, is that this blanket thingy, can move by itself?" Joy lowers the blanket, side eyeing Matty with scepticism.

"Well how else do you explain these underpants Joy?" Matty now grabs the undies from his case, virtually shoving them in Joy's face.

"Ugh not in my face." Joy pulls away fast, making Matty realise that he was handling a boy's pair of undies without knowing their full history. He drops them on the Aztec rug.

"Look..." Matty tries to put reasoning to the test. "What if you take my blanket home in your case." He gets up, snatching it from Joy's grasp.

"Matty. That will prove nothing." Joy says standing up to meet Matty's gaze.

"Please Joy, just do it. I just need to know what's going on." Matty pleads to his friend. "If what I think will happen does happen, then..."

"Then what?" Joy asks.

"I will know my blanket is magic."
