Chapter 8 - Veronica

Before we made it camp fire I saw Megan standing alone with a troubled expression on her face. "Hey Nico? I'll catch up with you later okay? I'm going to go see if Megan's okay."

He glanced back at Megan. He thought for a second and made a quick decision. "Okay, I'll see you later." With that he rushed off to camp fire and I made a quick mental note to ask him why he acted weird at the sound of Megan.

"Hey," I said, slowing down so she could catch up to me. "How'd it go at the Hermes table?" "Oh, not well," she said with a sigh. "I mean I guess I would expect that from the god of thieves children but still," she patted her back pocket. "I've never been pick pocketed so many times before."

I laughed, and she turned to look at me. I cleared my throat. "Umm, sorry. I've just never sat at their table before and I don't plan on it." She looked at me with sad eyes. "Yeah, I just hope that I get claimed soon so I don't have to deal with them anymore."

I crack a smile and glance at her arm, which is pale at her forearm due to a pretty big gash that I didn't notice before. "Oh my gods, what happened?" I exclaim, while gently grabbing her arm. She looks down at her arm and her eyes widen. "How did that get there?!" She says looking panicked. She squeezes her arm in pain like it's just starting to register and stops walking.

"Okay, okay calm down," I say, try to soothe her. "We'll get you to the infirmary before camp fire, I just need you to stay calm." "How am I supposed to stay calm when there's a piece of glass in my arm!"

Campers have started to gather around to see what all the commotion is about and I frantically look around to see if there's anyone that's actually helpful in this kind of situation. Thankfully, I see a familiar head of blonde hair. "Annabeth!" I call out.

She comes over and her stormy grey eyes become serious as I quickly explain what's wrong. Well, as much as you can explain with a panicky Megan gripping your arm. "Okay, well all we can do right now is-" Her voice is cut off by the sound of clapping thunder. Dark clouds suddenly covered the clear night sky as it starts pouring buckets on all of us.

"Really Zeus?!" Annabeth shouts angrily at the sky. "Now is not the best time for this kind of weather!" In response it starts raining even harder, if that's even possible. I sigh and roll my eyes and turn back to Megan.

"Anyways, I think we can still..." My voice falters as I see Megan staring wide eyed at the cut on her arm, which is slowly healing as the piece of glass has washed away. My jaw drops as I see the water from a puddle slowly crawl up Megan's body and arm just to heal it.

"But that's... not possible," Annabeth stutters. "Unless..." She doesn't have to continue for me to know what she's thinking, but that should be impossible. From what they told me, the last time this happened was when Percy got claimed... no way.

After what seems like hours the gash finally heals completely, and that's how long it takes the entire camp to gather around us leaving a small little circle. It's also how long it takes my theory that Megan is the second child of the sea god to solidify, especially once the water washed away and left Megan completely dry.

I gently run my hand over the now closed skin. "How...?" I stutter. "I don't know." Megan says softly, still shaking her head like that didn't just happen.

With another crash of thunder Chiron trots up to the front of the group. "Chiron, you don't think...?" Annabeth starts, her eyes pleading for Chiron to give her a direct answer. She hates not knowing things, I speak from experience. He just shakes his head at her.

"I don't know child, I don't know." All of the sudden the rain stops, still leaving the dark clouds, and some distant thunder. We're all washed over in greenish-blue light, and everyone and everything, including the thunder, has gone silent. I feel slightly shoved and look over to see what has happened.

Percy Jackson, the only one who is completely dry right now (well, other than Megan), has slowly pushed his way to the front, and is now staring wide eyed and shell shocked at Megan.
Slowly, his usual trouble maker smirk creeps back on to his face, and he gets down on one knee and lowers his head, forming a bowing gesture. Annabeth follows his lead and soon the entire camp is bowing down in front of Megan, including Chiron.

Once I'm on one knee, I slowly raise my head to see Megan, with her jaw dropped, staring at the sea green holographic image of a trident, the sign of the sea god. He doesn't even have to say it, but he does anyways.

"The bloodline has once again been determined." Chiron starts. "Poseidon- earthshaker, stormbringer and lord of horses, all hail Megan Knutson, daughter of the sea god."
