Chapter 3 - Megan

My dream was a nightmare. I've had some pretty weird dreams in my time, but this was by far the scariest. I was swimming towards a huge castle that was decorated with thousands of pearls and had the strangest assortment of creatures swimming around it; mermen, giant squids, fish horses that reminded me of the hippocampus in Greek class, and even a human figure that looked like it had 100 hands sprouting from all over it's body.

I stopped swimming overlooking the the entire city, hundreds of temples and buildings that all looked brand new and were made out of some sort of sea stone. Out of nowhere a man appeared in a flash of light, dressed in a tropical shirt and shorts and a pair of flip flops. What made him stand out was the huge trident in his hand that radiated power.

He floated up to me and said, "Make me proud." And disappeared just as fast as he showed up. I then took a step back and fell into the shadows. The next time I stepped back into the light a girl about my age stood beside me on the field of battle. Her face, that looked like it used to be beautiful, was covered in cuts, blood and bruises.

She looked at me like she acknowledged I was there and said,  "Can you really stop all this?" Stop what?! I wanted to scream, but my voice didn't work. Then I felt a sharp pain right under my rib cage and a voice whispering Not like this you can't, and I collapsed.

I gasped for air and my eyes flew open. The same girl that I had seen in my dream was sitting beside me. She had dark brown hair that was almost black and her eyes were the same colour, full of mystery and maybe a tiny bit happiness. Her hair covered one of her eyes but you could tell she wasn't wearing any makeup. She looked at me in the eye and a cold shiver went down my spine.

"She's awake." She called, and a blonde haired guy came running over. He looked to be about 17 and had blue coloured eyes that were full of concern. "Where am I?" I asked. He let out a sigh of relief and answered, " I'm Will Solace, and where are you? I'll let Veronica answer that question." "Veronica?" I asked puzzled. "Me," the girl said, whose name was supposedly Veronica. "My name is Veronica Garcia and I'll be your guide till you get used to it." "Used to what?" She gave me a smile and said, "Just follow me."

She stuck out her hand and helped me get out of bed. As we exited what they told me was called the infirmary, Will called out, "Just don't let her do the climbing wall!" We started to walk away before Veronica said, "Come on, I think you'll need to sit down for this." "Okay?"

We sat down overlooking a whole bunch of what looked to be cabins. Veronica brushed the hair out of her right eye so one was still covered but she could still see. "Okay, first question." She said. "Where am I?" I asked, because no one had answered me yet.  "You are at a place called Camp Half-Blood." "What is Camp Half-Blood?" "Okay, this is where it gets serious. You know all those myths about the Greek gods?" I nodded. "Well they're not myths. The Greek gods are real and they're still alive today."

I stared at her and waited for someone to jump out and yell, "April Fools!" But it never happened. I thought about all the different gods that we learned about in Greek class, there had to be hundreds, maybe thousands. Then I thought about something worse. "So all the monsters are real too?" She looked at me with a grim expression on her face. "Yup, those monsters that were chasing you and Percy earlier? They're called dracaena, these half snake half woman demon thingies."

You gotta be kidding me. "But what does all this have to do with me?" I asked. "Well, I don't like explaining it, but sometimes the gods come down to earth and, umm, mate, I guess you could say," her face turned the slightest shade if red, "with mortals. The children of this, umm, event, are called demigods which are more commonly know as half-bloods. Hence the name "Camp Half-Blood". So..." My face felt hot. "So you're saying that my mom, produced me with a god?" She looked relieved that the conversation was over. "Yes, that's the simple way of explaining it."

"But which god?" I asked. I felt like I was interrogating her but I had to figure this out. "Well we can cross any female gods of the list, thank the gods it's not Aphrodite," a bird flew by and pecked her on the ear, "yeah yeah," she muttered. "Anyways, thanks to Percy Jackson, you should be claimed before tomorrow."

Wow. This was a lot to take in. My dad, who was supposedly dead, was actually an ancient greek god that everyone thought, including me, was just a myth. I felt like I was going to faint again when something hit me. "Percy Jackson is a demigod?"

She looked over at me and smiled. "Yeah. He's a son of Poseidon. Only child of Poseidon there is right now in fact. You see, after WWII, which was a fight between the children of Hades and the children of Zeus and Poseidon, the big 3 gods swore not to have any more demigod children, because they were dangerously powerful. But that law was broke 3 times with the siring of Thalia, Percy and Jason. After beating Kronos, they'll explain that to you later, Percy told the gods that they should stop trying to get rid of powerful demigods and take them in to Camp Half-Blood instead to be trained. The gods agreed but haven't really gotten around to that other than me. I don't think I've told you this yet but I'm a daughter of the underworld. Nico, Hazel- a roman demigod that's confusing too-, and I are the only Children of Hades that there is, at least for now."

I looked at Veronica. Sure she seemed a little bit dark and mysterious, but she still looked like she was too sweet to be a daughter of Hades (no offence intended). I looked at all the cabins and guessed that each one represented a different god. But which one was mine?
I must've had a sad expression on my face because Veronica leaned forward and said, "Hey, cheer up! Everyone ends up fitting in somehow. You still have the rest of the day to be claimed and I know it will happen. Besides, we still have to finish your tour of the camp." She started to get up and I followed her lead.
