Chapter 1- The Apocalypse

**********DISCLAIMER**********
(Oh, you know bad stuff's gonna happen when there's a big, fat disclaimer sitting at the top)
Parts of this may be offensive to some audiences. I try my best to keep this PG, but that's a little difficult in certain circumstances.

Jesse's POV

"Oof!"

I heard the sound of my own voice as I face-planted into the grass alongside my dear friends, Lukas, and Petra. We had just entered a new dimension in hopes that we would return to the overworld. Ivor wasn't here because he got arrested in a different dimension a while back, and we haven't seen him since. Poor guy. He did say he'd catch up with us when he gets out of jail, though. I'll wish him luck.

"Okay," I said as I stood up and dusted the grass off of my overalls, "Lots of trees, green grass, blue sky, the sun looks normal, I think we made-"

"AHH!" I whipped my head around at the sound of Lukas's scream. He was holding his arm and wincing in pain because there was a giant arrow sticking out of it with his blood all over it. Drama already? Wait, THERE'S AN ARROW STICKING OUT OF LUKAS'S ARM!

Another arrow was fired at us, but it fell just short of Petra's boot. I looked in the direction it came from and saw a skeleton hiding under a tree from the daylight.

"Come on!" shouted Petra, pulling out her enchanted gold sword. I pulled out my enchanted diamond sword as we both charged the skeleton. It barely had enough time to shoot before Petra slashed it with the sword, causing its bones to spill everywhere and a couple arrows to spill out.

Turning back over to Lukas, I asked.

"Are you okay?"

He replied with a forced smile through the pain, "Uh, he, ah, heh, got me pretty good, I'm gonna need to have this bandaged up, though."

"Alright, let's look around. See if we can find a house or something where we can help Lukas," I said.

Petra nodded in agreement, and we began to walk away.

I wandered through the trees with my sword in hand, ready to attack. The only thing I've seen so far are trees, though.

Suddenly, I heard gurgling noises, but not your typical zombie noises. This sounded slightly more human and it wasn't very deep. I spun around to find what looked like a person, except with string-like hair, half its ribcage exposed, and blood dripping everywhere. It slowly limped over to me. I honestly didn't know what to make of it. I had never seen one in my entire pixelated lifespan. I slowly backed away without taking my eyes off this... thing.

Thump! I had backed into a tree. It's what I get for not looking where I was going. The foul smell of it flooded my nostrils making me force back a gag. Once this slow moving thing came close enough to reach, I slashed my sword at its midsection.

It growled in pain as the sword broke through its rotting skin. It fell to the ground- dead. But, just to make sure, I held out my sword and cautiously poked it on the head.

Yep, it's dead, I thought.

"Jesse?" Petra's voice echoed through the trees.

"Over here!" I called back. I soon noticed her ahead of me, looking around. Our eyes met, and she came running over.

"What is that," she asked with disgust.

"I have no idea," I said, "I thought it might be a zombie, but it looks nothing like one. Whatever it is, it's dead now."

"Well, I came to let you know that I found a little cabin not too far away in the woods. I wanted to come get you before going inside."

"Alright. How's Lukas?" I asked.

"Em, I guess as good as you can get when your arm has an arrow sticking out of it while being stuck in the middle of the woods," Petra replied.

"Okay, let's go find that cabin," I said.

Petra seemed to know her way around; she found Lukas then escorted us around trees and across the grass. Lukas winced every now and then, but he didn't complain.

Soon enough, we reached a small hill with a spruce wood cabin on it. It was pretty quaint but lonesome. I have no idea how one manages to live all alone in the woods without anyone else and still manage to keep their sanity! But, what if this person didn't keep their sanity? What if living alone did something to their brain so they'll try to kill us if we go onto their property? What if-

"Jesse?" Lukas asked, holding his arm, "you coming?"

I snapped back to attention.

"Yep, just, uh, lost in thought," I replied. Petra had already gone inside while Lukas and I walked in together.

Petra's POV

As I walked inside the cabin, the floorboards squeaked beneath my feet. Lukas and Jesse walked in shortly afterward. Jesse carefully shut the door behind her while Lukas continued to hold his arm.

"Anyone home?" I asked.

Before I was ready, I felt a hard thud against my arm as the wooden planks on the floor rose up to my face.

I found myself laying on the floor with a painful headache. I must have hit it when I fell. How embarrassing.

"Walkers aren't allowed in here," said a stern voice. I lifted my head and found a man with an iron sword pointed at me. He was staring me right in the eye.

"Walkers?" echoed Jesse. The man sighed and drew back his sword.

"Never mind," he said, "Now, who are you and why are you in my house?" This guy seemed to really mean business.

"We were lost in the woods, and our friend Lukas got shot by a skeleton," said Jesse.

"Here, let me look," the guy said. Lukas held out his arm, and the man examined it.

"It's not too deep, we'll just have to pull out the arrow and bandage it up, and he'll be okay in no time. I'll go get something to wrap the arm in. Oh, by the way, my name's Jeb."

Jeb got up and left the room.

"Wait, did he mean now?" asked Lukas.

"What else were you thinking?" said Jeb as he stepped back in holding some white stuff, presumably the bandages.

I didn't expect him to come back so quickly, but okay.

Jeb kneeled by Lukas and handed him a cloth.

"What's this for?" asked Lukas.

"Thought you could bite down on it. Brace yourself."

"Wait, what? ARGH!" Jeb what pulling on the arrow as Lukas shoved the cloth into his mouth and bit it. His blue eyes widened and I think I saw some sweat dribble from his forehead. I'd imagine this hurt a lot. Poor Lukas.

"Ah, got it!" exclaimed Jeb as he threw the stained arrow onto the floor. He swiftly grabbed the bandages and wrapped Lukas's arm. Lukas was shaking intensely now. He spat out the cloth.

"Better?" asked Jeb.

"Not... really," Lukas grunted.

"It'll get better. This is the worst of it. Here, I'll find you a chair." Jeb searched the room and grabbed a chair from a table.

Lukas slowly stood to his feet and sat down on it.

"Okay," said Jesse, "what is a walker?"

Jeb gave her a confused look.

"You've never heard of a walker before? The apocalypse started ages ago! Those dang things keep killin' everyone!"

Jesse and I glanced at each other.

"Where are you from?" asked Jeb.

"Um," I piped up, "a portal."

"A portal? I haven't seen one of those in years!"

"You've never seen a portal before?" asked Jesse.

"Well, I've seen a Nether portal before. Once. But that's it."

"We don't have 'walkers' where we come from," I said. Jeb put his hand on his chin for a moment.

"Then I'll have to teach you to fight. I've been surviving this thing for my entire life, I'm sure I can teach you the way to-"

"Uh, yeah, sorry to interrupt, but we already know how to fight. We're members of the Order of the Stone!" said Jesse.

"Order of the, what now?" asked Jeb, "Never heard of that. I know that you three probably already know how to fight, but I'm talking specifically about walkers. There are some tactics that you can use to fight them, and I also have to get you in shape."

"Hey! We already are in shape!" said Jesse.

"Then this should be easy for you," said Jeb. Then he shouted at us, "DROP AND GIVE ME 20!"

Lukas's POV

I sat in a wooden chair, my arm still throbbing from pain. I'm glad Jeb let me sit out on the training because I highly doubt I would have been able to do it. You know, with my arm and all. That's it. Nothing else.

"I... hate... you!" Jesse said panting. She and Petra were doing pushups for the hundredth time.

"My muscles are turning... into... soup," gasped Petra.

"That means you're hitting the wall," said Jeb as he paced back and forth in front of the girls.

"The wall?" asked Jesse.

"The wall is when you're exercising so hard that you feel like you're going to die if you do anymore," Jeb explained, "Once you push past the wall, you'll gain your second wind."

"I've... been at this freaking wall for a while now," said Petra. Jeb just chuckled.

"Okay, that's enough for the warm up," said Jeb.

"Warmup?!" asked Jesse exasperated.

"Relax, we're getting into the real stuff now," said Jeb, "First, I want to teach you about Walkers. The first thing to know, they aren't zombies."

"Er, what's the difference, then?" asked Jesse.

"Zombies are naturally spawning hostile mobs. They pop out of nowhere in the middle of the night and burn in the daylight. Walkers, on the other hand, don't spawn. If a person dies, they'll become one of them. It's not supposed to be natural, though, and honestly, I have no idea how or where this all started."

After a while of watching Jesse and Petra practice, my arm lost its feeling and became really stiff. I'm not sure if that's good or bad...

I had to rest my head on my good arm because I felt kind of light-headed. Probably from blood loss.

"Lukas! You there?" asked Jeb, snapping my out of my trance. I looked up and saw that he was giving me a glass bottle.

"Potion?" I asked hopefully.

"You wish. Water," replied Jeb.

I took the bottle as Jeb walked back to Jesse and Petra, who were sitting on the floor.

"Get offa your butts and let's keep training!" Jeb yelled. They glared at him but said nothing.

I sipped on my water every now and then. It was no healing potion, but it worked a little with making me less dizzy.

After a little more training, Jeb asked,

"You think you can handle yourselves out there?"

"Yeah, it's not like we haven't handled worse," replied Petra.

Jeb helped me out of my chair and walked us out the door.

"Stay safe," he said, then closed the door.

We continued to walk through the forest, presumably looking for either the portal back home or just someplace safe. Probably both.

"Something's wrong," said Petra, breaking the silence.

"What do you mean? Nothing's happened since we left Jeb's house," said Jesse.

"No, I just got this feeling, you know? I just feel... paranoid all of a sudden."

"Well, you have every right to be, Petra. There could be walkers everywhere."

"Jesse?" I asked, "Do you think we'll be able to live through this? I mean, with the walkers and all."

"Defiantly," she replied, "Those things have no chance of sneaking up on us. They're about as quiet as a screaming cow on a floor made of-"

"AHH!" Petra yelled. A walker had bitten Petra on the back of her neck.

"Petra!" cried Jesse. Pulling out her sword, she charged the walker and killed it. Then she leaned over Petra, who had fallen onto the ground.

Blood gushed out of Petra's neck as she fell to the ground. I think I felt my face go pale as Jesse started freaking out.

"Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh! Petra, you're gonna be okay, we need something to stop the blood!"

Hello! I've decided to leave notes after each chapter to create suspense or something.

So, what do you think? What do you think happened to Ivor? Will Petra be okay? I actually started freaking out a little when she started bleeding. When I was outlining, I didn't know what to do about it! Jesse pretty much mirrored my reaction.

I also have decided to try to have some kind of schedule for posting these chapters. I might try to post every Wednesday, although I'm what you call a procrastinator, so I'll try my best to keep my distracted little brain from waiting until Tuesday night to be writing these! ;-)

As Stampylongnose always says, BYEEEEE!
