When we came up with the idea, we never imagined what would come out. Me and my friend came up with the idea for an interdimensional gateway and being students for the most technologically advanced college in the world it was possible, so we started. We needed to work under the radar, so it was a slow burning project we’d decided to hide it in the crawlspace below the school during construction it was a simple circular frame with a sturdy steel base we’d borrowed from the engineering department hiding it using the fake wall we’d made in the back of the science broom closet we had decided to use the space as it was closest to the nuclear generator which we would use to power it we had worked out the equations for it before even starting on the frame and had made the interdimensional fluid by some less then legal means but that would pale in comparison if it worked.

It had been mid-winter by the time we finished the base it looked like a scrap yard in our crawlspace by then, but we’d completed it connecting the fluid pitcher to the pump to move the fluid around the internal components before connecting it to the reactor via a special device. It had taken a minute before the machine started sparking as the room elongated vertically as the ceiling shot up and the walls moved away as the spatial distortion came to a halt, we were left staring at a void where no light entered, and no light left the only show of its existence was the white energy surrounding it showing that we’d been successful.

It was small but a laugh drew itself from below the shock as the joy soon filled me that we’d been able to do what no-one in the history of mankind had thought possible but we were soon cut off by the sound of something moving we looked back at our creation to be face to face with a strange creature it looked vaguely animalistic with purple skin and a thousand rows of razors covering its back every time it moved a faded afterimage stayed behind for a moment when we’d spent 3 years making the doorway it had never occurred to us that it would be a two way street just as we had opened a door there a door there had opened here but before we could dwell on it the creature moved its multitude of legs left behind images it opened its 4 jawed maw and let out a howl that sounded like it had been put through a synthesiser ten thousand times as I felt blood pool down my head as my eardrums exploded from the sound.

I looked to my friend who was closer to the beast had passed out as the creature stalked closer to us I backed up my friend to far for me to grab as I cut my hand on a failed version of the portal frame the shape being too jagged I looked back ignoring the stinging pain from severed veins and arteries to see the monster pounce on my friend before the largest jaw at the bottom of its constantly morphing purple head lodged on his head before a sickening crunch filled the air as thousands of tiny bioluminescent tendrils flowed out latching onto the exposed brain and muscular tissue they began to be sucked in like a drink to a straw once the brain was no more it bit into the stomach region repeating the motion with every organ before the body rapidly aged turning into ash the smallest mouth in the middle open slightly inhaling the dust.

I didn’t wait to see what happened next as I scrambled to my feet running to the ladder clambering up I could hear metal shaking and snapping as the creature bounded for the ladder I didn’t dare turn back I clutched onto the ladder as the creature collided below making the ladder bend I had to escape once I'd gotten up I shoved the fake wall to the side and crashed through the door into an active lecture hall ignoring the stares I continued sprinting ignoring the screams that echoed behind me.

I ran and ran as alarms blared and people screamed not long after the power had gone out the creature had swallowed the energy of the reactor everything the light sound energy radiation everything. Where we'd gone to hadn't been to a parallel world like we planned it had been to a higher plane we had invited a being more powerful than we could comprehend into our dimension and it wouldn’t stop until it devours everything that moves everything that uses energy will be swallowed it had been three months since the portal opened the school was in ruins as was then entire world more creatures had since exited the portal as it had become a permanent fixture in the crawl space and would stay that way until the last creature returned to their world it was a pitiful thing, hope. They won’t stop until everything is drained of heat, energy, colour and life only on that revelation had I realised it was an alternate reality we had gone to one that just like us had invited these things to our world to feed and they would until our dimension just like the one before it and the one before that are nothing but empty lifeless voids waiting for the next fools to do what never should have been. 

This is my last entry. I broke my leg 3 days ago running from one of the interdimensional death machines; it all but immobilised me. I was able to crawl my way into the top floor of a store and I can hear one downstairs. A scavenger ran here but got caught it’s almost definitely finished her off by now and its most definitely smelled my blood yet I'm in no condition to run and if by some spark of luck that someone finds this then send it somewhere to some backwater dimension without someone like me and give them this. Let this be my ninth symphony and may it be a warning to all wannabe interdimensional inventors be careful as you will invite these creatures so unless you have some serious firepower, don’t even try... God help u-
