Prologue
There's not many people like me in the world. The only people I know who are like me are friends of my parents. They've helped me a lot in my resent time of need. I don't know what I'd do without them.
My name is Sage Jackson. I am known as a Portal Jumper. The truth is, I've jumped so many portals I don't even remember which reality is my own. I've been doing this since I was a little girl.
My parents died when I was a few months old. The friends of my parents watched over me until I was seven. They had told me about my parents and how they jumped through different portals almost every day to see all the new worlds, the different people. It was fascinating to hear about them. Unfortunately, I never had the chance to meet them. Isaac and Jill- my parents friends- told me how my parents had come back from a Portal Jump badly wounded. My mother died shortly after they arrived, and my father passed away two days later, a heartbroken man.
Isaac and Jill told me that their death was no accident. They could see, clearly, by all the blood and the slashes on my parents bodies that they had been murdered. Their internal organs had been shredded to pieces.
They told me the story numerous times, trying to remind me that portal jumping is dangerous. After what happened, Isaac and Jill never went back out. They put their portal device away for good and swore to never use it again, in case the same thing were to happen to themselves.
When I turned seven, I finally found the portal device. I had searched for it ever since I heard they stored it away. It was a simple wrist band thats center flipped upward to choose a name out of the hundreds there of some other realm which I had no idea what or where these places were.
I could hear Jill's screams. I looked back through the door, and could see her running towards me. "Sage, don't you dare use that jumper! Sage!"
I couldn't get caught. This was the only chance I had at finding my parents murderers. And I was going to find them.
I turned the knob on the jumper to a place that red Foinka. Then I was suddenly sucked into an aurora of colors just as Jill reached out for me, but she missed. Where I was going, I couldn't say, but I do know where I ended up.
And that is where my story begins.
