"Look who it is again Billie," Mike teased. I could already tell it was Mave.
Billie sighed. "Just leave her,"
"You don't want her to come sit with you?" I asked him slightly confused.
"Nah,"
Well that's very confusing. He didn't seem very bothered about Mave today? I also noticed, after the other day when Mave did sit with us. He didn't talk about her.
Normally he wouldn't shut up about Mave. But he didn't even mention her. I guess I wasn't complaining about it.
I mean. He was fully aware Mave was behind us and he didn't even wanna stare, look or anything.
"Hi Billie," she smiled as she walked past the table.
"Hi,"
We all looked at him confused. As she fully walked away before Mike spoke up.
"That it?" He asked.
"What do you mean?"
"Well normally you're all excited when Mave talks to you and you stutter like an idiot," I agreed. "But all you said was 'hi' really unenthusiasticly,"
I was happy about this certain switch in Billies actions towards Mave. But I felt selfish too. Was this some how my fault?
"Eh, she said hi no biggie." he shrugged carelessly with a smile. "You busy later?"
"Me?" I asked.
"Well yeah, you. You busy?"
"N-no... no I'm not busy later. Why?"
"Can I take you somewhere again after school?"
"Of course you can- well- I mean- sure, if you wanna that's cool yeah,"
All he did was laugh slightly shaking his head before he turned back to the front of the table and started another conversation.
Looking back at it, yesterday. He didn't seem too happy when Mave was invited to sit with us yesterday either. All he did was try to keep his face hidden in the palms of his hands.

"Watch your step," he warned me as I looked down.
"Oh- there's stairs there," I laughed slightly as we began to walk up the concrete stairs.
I had no clue where we was going. But he was leading me up some stairs in the dark and for whatever more reason I fully trusted him.
"I got it," I laughed as I walked up.
We reached the top of the stairs as I looked around.
We was on a bridge. The bridge was actually quite dangerous least to say, which was why we weren't suppose to be up here. There was no railings or banister around the edge to ensure safety. They must've rotted away or been stripped off a while ago. It was just like a concrete walk way.
I walked closer to the edge looking over down at the bottom where there was some confusion of looking train tracks.
"Be careful please Birdie," Billie said from behind me.
I stepped back away from the edge as I turned to look at him. "This place is pretty dangerous huh?"
"Sure is, like it?"
"I love it,"
He walked where I was originally standing at the edge as he slowly sat down carefully. Dangling his legs off the side as he looked back at me.
I walked closer to him as he kept warning me to be careful. As I slowly sat down beside him with my legs also hanging off over the train tracks.
"What happens if we fall?" I asked him stupidly.
"We die?"
"Oh that's lovely,"
"Just don't fall and you'll be fine,"
"Well I didn't plan on falling,"
"Yeah alright smart ass,"
I looked back down. Following the tracks with my eyes until I couldn't see them anymore, where they disappeared into the darkness. It was sorta scary. But at the same time cool.
I enjoyed dangerous things as much as anyone else did. The adrenaline and the electricity coursing through each vein. That only certain places and certain scenarios could give you. But Billie always slightly gave me that feeling.
Only recently anyway.
With the adrenaline. Electricity and sort of panic. I loved it, but I knew I shouldn't of.
"This place is kinda scary at night," I mumbled still looking around at my surroundings.
"You said that about the beach,"
"Cute you remember that,"
"What- no- I- I meant that-"
"-Jesus Beej chill, I'm only playing," I laughed looking over at him. He stopped stuttering and rolled his eyes as I giggled again. "I guess everything's just super different to me at night,"
"Do you like night?"
"Ehh... I like the stars and the moon. And I like how empty the streets and other places get. Y'know- how cooler places look and more lonely they become. Y'know? But I've never been someone who could so easily go around exploring in the dark,"
"But you are now? Aren't you?"
"Hey, I guess I am,"
I liked this moment. Sitting under the stars with him, our legs dangling so dangerously over the edge but yet we wasn't fazed. As we spoke nothing but listened to the worlds noises like the occasional owl or the breeze whistling through the trees.
Soon it would be over. All of this would. Not death, but the end of our fake relationship. I had this aching feeling in my chest that the future is coming too quickly. I wanted to stop it. I wanted to pause it. I wanted to delay it some how and last as long as I could sat with him in dark places of the night as we admired dull scenes of this dirty town.
I had a realisation how happy I was in this moment. Nothing was even happening. I wasn't moving. I wasn't smoking or drinking. Hell- I wasn't even talking. Neither was he. But it was his presence. Him just being there that gave me this big wave of 'oh my god, I'm truly happy in such a normal still moment'.
"Billie," I spoke up, looking over at him. He looked up from where ever he was staring at before and met my eyes.
"Birdie?"
"How come you didn't care so much about Mave earlier on?"
He looked away, with his thinking face which was his lips puckered slightly and turned to the right, his eyebrows just ever so slightly slanting down. Before he opened up his lips again to answer. "I don't even know myself. I guess I just grew out my nerves?"
"Can you do that?"
"Maybe? I don't know... do you think you can?" He asked me.
I didn't know, I was the last person to be answering that question. Because for some reason I got nervous over everything even though I use to confidently piss this guy off. "Yeah... maybe," I answered shivering slightly.
"Are you cold?"
"What? No, no I'm fine,"
"Do you want my j-"
"-no that's alright,"
He didn't say anything but stood up. I looked back confused as he walked safely away from the edge before unzipping his jacket. I quickly got up too walking over to him.
"Billie! It's fine!"
He already took it off as I sighed. "Here, come here,"
I walked closer to him as he extended his arms out with the jacket in his hands lifting it over my head and draped the jacket over me.
"Put your arms in,"
I did as I was told holding in a giggle as he straightened it out once my arms were in. The sleeves fell just under my hands meaning I looked like a child in an oversized item of clothing.
He grabbed the bottom part of the zipper before zipping it up as his eyes followed it. Before it reached the top and his eyes met mine. Where are faces were close and my breath was hitched in the back of my throat from nervousness.
We stayed silent for a second staring at one another. His eyes never leaving mine and mine never leaving his. As we just breathed in silence before he whispered my nickname.
"Birdie?"
"Yeah...?"
"Can I ask you something crazy?"
"C-course,"
"If we kiss right now. Can we consider it fake too with this whole relationship? If I kiss you?"
There were a lot of reasons why I should've said no. I don't think I need to explain them at this point since a big one being Eden.
But if we kissed. What would happen if he considered it fake. And I agreed, but really it felt real to me, and I considered it real instead.
I nodded, my lips parted slightly and my breath visible in the air because of the coldness.
With out warning, his hands pulled me closer as we closed the gap. Our chests touching as our lips made contact. I closed my eyes and let my arms rest over on his shoulders as we kissed.
I hated that I didn't want it to end. We kept kissing, and kissing, and I didn't wanna pull away. But it seemed he didn't either. And I didn't know how this was going to end but all I knew is I didn't want it to.
My hand had some how made it into and running through his hair and the other touching the side of his neck.
But then there was a sudden deafening high pitch whistle as the both of us pulled away instantly letting go off each other tensing up with shock. We looked a bit to the side over the edge which was a good few steps away, where lights appeared and loud sounds of clanging metal which was getting louder by the second.
It took me a second to realise it was a train, as it went underneath the bridge and appeared from the other end sending a gust of wind to the both of us as my hair blew into my face and my mouth.
I pulled it out tucking it behind my ear as Billie looked at me and chuckled, his lips slightly pink and swollen.
"Who knew they were still used,"
"You didn't know that!?"
"Nope... now I do," he grinned.
I shook my head with a smile that was fighting its way to get there. "Well..."
"We should probably head back to mine now, don't you think? It's getting sorta late," he suggested pulling his phone out and showing me the time.
"Jesus! That's the time!? How long were we...?"
"I don't know..."
We looked at each other in confusion for a longer few seconds before we both laughed it off and headed back to his car where it was still cold.
As I buckled my seat belt in I slouched down in the car hugging myself with Billies jacket. Trying to produce some heat to keep me feeling from dead. I looked over at Billie who started up the car wearing his t-shirt. The goosebumps on his arms but he didn't complain because he had offered, or more insisted, I wore his jacket.
Mave is gonna be so lucky.
We drove back to his, despite the fact that we had kissed it didn't feel awkward. We still laughed and teased, singing to the radio and chatting.
We got out the car that had been parked into his drive way and entered inside where the warmth hit. The goosebumps on my arms under the jacket leaving as I let out a breath.
"Where have you both been?" Eden asked confused as she walked out of the kitchen, while Billie locked the door behind me.
"Oh we-" I stammered nervously trying to come up with something. "We- erm- had to head back to mine to- pick up- to grab and drop off some things, then my mom called and I got caught in a big conversation," I lied.
"Oh," Eden shrugged.
I looked over at Billie who gave me a weird look. With one eyebrow raised.
"Well, you both coming in the living room?" Eden asked as I looked back over at her.
"Sure, you coming Beej?" I turned back to him.
"No, I think I'll go to bed. Goodnight." He bluntly answered before walking up the stairs. No flick on the nose.
Had I pissed him off already? He was fine in the car? What did I do? Was it cause I lied- is that it?
