CHAPTER ELEVEN

|

Poppet fell asleep, leaning on her door frame as she waited for Chase. The fireflies had eventually left her, leaving only the sun's light against her freckled face.

She lifted her eyelids to the sight of brightness, but this time it was more than just light. It was something different.

She peered at the sun, almost blinded by the intense light. It was definitely different.  It was not black nor white. There were no shades. It was--yellow?

And so was everything around her. The garden bursted with color. The sunflowers looked like the sun. It was happy. The roses looked warm and full of love. The grass were green, growing, fresh and fertile. Everything Chase taught her, she saw in everything.

She brushed her hands by the leaves, touched the different kinds of fruits. She stumbled upon a blueberry and as she held it in her hand, she couldn't stifle her laugh. "He was right, they weren't blue."

Everything she saw, came running back to Chase. Chase who was there for her. Chase who kissed her. Chase, the blessing from the moon.

Chase, who was not with her anymore.

A wave of sorrow flooded over Poppet. Tears puddled her eyes. She ran to the place she once rested upon. To the place she first saw him. She laid her back against the grass, tears flowing all over her cheeks. He left me. She thought.

"Damn you Chase," she muttered to herself, pressing her hands against her face. She tried to wipe all her tears but it was no use. They kept coming, like the rain and dark skies. Like thunderstorms.

She remained there, all day crying herself until she fell asleep. When night came, she woke and dragged herself back to her house. She sat by her doorstep once again, her eyes puffed and nose red.

The night was silent. There were no crickets nor howl of the wind. She swore if she listened closer, she could hear her heart's shattered pieces clash against each other inside her chest.

That was the first time she wished the world was in chaos. For she did not want to hear her own.

She stared at the night skies, the stars bright as usual. Fireflies surrounded her while butterflies landed on her head and shoulders. She stared at the skies again.

The moon was back.
