Useless
Rob's P.O.V.
I stared as they dragged Mat out into the center. Tears spilled down his face while the soldiers around me roared in approval or cheered.
Excited to see pain brought to my friend.....Opening my mouth to object no sound came out.
My eyes blurred with tears as I watched Mat. He just....Stood there...Not fighting...Not trying to escape....Nothing....
"TO THE MACHINE!!!" The Boss yelled. A roar of screams and yells of approval responded him.
My heart dropped into my stomach causing butterflies to explode as they dragged him to the machine.
The closer they got, the harder I cried. Soldiers lined up in front of me. Making a barricade of humans in case anybody tried passing through.
There was no way I could get to him. Helplessly watching I flinched as the metal door of the contraption swing open.
The two guards standing beside the machine shook. Obviously uncomfortable being beside it.
Mat knowing what he had to do he marched into the machine. Mat's head was looking down at his feet.
Transparent tears dripped off of his face and onto the floor. I stared at him. Knowing this was the last time I would probably see him.
Hanging my head I stared at my shoes as soon as I heard the door slam close.
"TURN IT ON!!!" The Boss spoke up. Tears rolled down my face as I heard the machine hum.
Slowly increasing until it was shaking and turning. Screams echoed from the inside of the machine.
The sound of fists slamming on the metal caused me to flinch. Not being able to stand it any longer I tried tuning out the sounds of Mat in pain
....It didn't work...A high pitched squealing sound was coming from the machine.
Air rapidly flung out of the machine. The sound of a stick whipping through air silenced the area.
The soldiers eager to see the outcome of how Mat turned out. Slowly the machine silenced itself. Silencing the room along with it.
"OPEN THE DOOR!!!!" The Boss bellowed. Obviously excited and curious to see if the machine worked.
My thoughts begging for it to have worked I perked my head upwards. My eyes widening at the sight I saw. Mat was staring at me.
Not even recognizable anymore. The only reason I knew it was Mat was because he was the one who stepped out of the machine.
Not a single piece of his human body was showing. Only a metal suit. The legs were black and striped with red.
His chest plate was grey yet the arms were a red color. The helmet of the suit was grey yet the eyes were a blue color.
The tinted bullet proof glass glistened. Reflecting the light of the room. Soldiers cheered at the success while Mat stood there.
Seeming confused about the whole thing.
"SEND HIM BACK TO THE CELL!!!" The crowd cheered. The four soldiers who took him before grabbed him once more.
Leading him out the door to meet the others again......What will they think? My hands shook the more I thought about it.
I'm useless. I couldn't help Mat. I couldn't save Mat. I made Preston cry. What next? I'm going to kill Jerome? I'm going to abuse Mitch?
Maybe this job is too much for me. I don't know why I applied for this. Guess I didn't know what I was getting into.
And I sure as hell didn't know what I still had in store....
