PROLOGUE TO PREJUDICE
I look out through the square shaped fragment on the wall,
Yellow, circular star up there grinning from ear to ear,
Spreading on my face,
Making me feel its temperature
The most frightening of men proceeds towards my home,
Rolls of sweat on his creased forehead,
Indignation evident on his white face,
Knocking on my door, he took me by my hands against my back
Flummox scribbles all over my face,
Futility sketches on my attempt to get free,
My hands beseech me for their release,
The floor groans in pain as my legs torture it
Roughly thrown in a cage,
As blissful as reading a book in a hammock, my hands rejoice for they are set free,
But I am not free!
I am a bird in a cage!
With open arms and pleasure, the cage welcomes me
With an accent of familiarity, the cage smiles at me
Whether I am a stranger to it, the cage cares not
Truly, the cage has received strangers of my kind
For I am black!
Black is my kind,
My kind is prey,
Prey is my epithet
Frightening figures surround me,
Coercion tattooed in the layer of gases,
I am an underdog,
I am the victim
My skin is an abode of blood,
'I did nothing. Kill me instead,' I cried
For death is a better pill than immeasurable torture,
For black is a deadly colour

P/N: Realizing everything in this world is in a perfectly arranged array, many mightn't just figure it out yet. Black, symbolising despair, struggle, darkness, doesn't only apply to the colour but looking at it, it applies to every single thing that bears or carries or has that colouration. Hope you enjoyed it and felt the real depth of the poem.
