Lutes pov

I headed into the station with my heart pounding in my chest. This is the day I ask my partner in preventing crime out. This will either make or break our relationship. Please let it be the former.

"Morning lute" Adam waved to me with that goofy smile that I've grown to love.

"Morning sir" I approached him with a nervous smile. My heart was beating like a jackhammer. Argh this is hard!

"Something wrong. Your eyes are darting about. You kinda look like a fucked up fish" he said bluntly.

"Charming" I muttered under my breath before taking a deep breath and facing him "actually sir I want to ask you something"

"Sure go for it" he turned around in his swivel chair, facing me.

I took another deep breath "will you go out with me?"

"Huh?" His eyes widened. I tried not to let it deter me.

"I'm asking you out on a date sir" I averted my eyes.

"You really want to go out with me?" His eyes held a vulnerability I wasn't used to seeing.

I took his hand with a reassuring smile "more than anything"

"Okay fuck it, let's do this!" He jumped to his feet with an excited smile on his face "I'll plan it to a fucking T. It's going to be a date that'll make every other date you've had look fucking pathetic" he was about to run out the door when-

"Sir we've still got a shift to finish"

He stopped in his tracks "on yeah, I forgot" he smiled bashfully. I chuckled to myself. What a guy!
