Oliver

Running makes me feel alive. Like a cheetah, searching for its prey. It gives me free will, free power.

The music is blasting in my eardrums, blocking out any noice from outside.

The wind is blowing past my face, cooling me down from the summer heat.

I'm leaving behind my problems myself, nothing can stop me.

Until a car pulled up right in front of me. I almost slammed into the window.

The person rolled down the window, and saw my sister laughing.

"What the fuck, Cassie!" She got out of her car. I didn't realize I was back home.

"Don't you check your mirrors? How did you even get your license?" I took out my phone from my bicep. 2.5 miles. 94 bpm.

"I slept with the driving officer, then gave him $100." I opened the door and cringed.

She hit my arm playfully and laughed. "I'm kidding, Ollie, I'm not that slutty." Considering she slept with more people than I have friends, I could say she is.

"You said it, not me." I got a water from the fridge and checked for food

"Mom still not home yet?"

"No, she said there's a twenty on the counter for food."

"You want Chinese, Thai, or pizza?"

"Chinese. My stomach is wanting some sweet and sour chicken." I rubbed my stomach and Cassie snorted.

"Okay, I'll call them."

A few minutes later, we were now eating the very delicious food.

Her phone buzzed and her faced lightened up. "Oh my god, Luke Hill texted me back!"

I rolled my eyes. "Nuthead Hill?"

She frowned. "He hates when people call him that! He's very smart!"

"Yeah, okay." I muttered into my chicken. Luke Hill is the quarterback of Lakefront High. A bunch of people have scouted him already. Very talented at a sport and very smart or two different things. He's still taking Algebra I as a senior, and can't tell the difference between a book and magazine.

Okay, I'm not saying he's dumb...just not well educated.

"He wants me to come to his house for a party, tonight and told me to bring people." She looked at me and I shook my head.

"No, absolutely not. I'm tired of being your designated driver. Plus I don't do parties."

"You don't have to be my DD! Just come to have fun! When's the last time you had fun?"

"My book was pretty fun, actually. When this chara-okay! Sorry I asked!" She cut me off just when I started to go all story mode.

"Okay, have fun in your loser bubble."

"Oh, I will. Angelina Jolie is waiting for me on Netflix." I smirked as I sat on the couch.

"You know you're fucking weird, right?"

"Don't have to remind me."

Her phone rang. "Hey, girly!" She went upstairs to continue her call.

I turned on the TV. There's nothing new, just talking about news.

"Wassup, fucker!" A strange guy who I call my friend, barge into my house.

"How the hell did you get in here?" Wes, the strange friend had a spare key in his hands.

"Dude, you needa hide your key better, won't want to get robbed or anything."

He has a couple of magazines in his hand. Of women. Typical him.

"Guess who's on the front cover?" Do I even have to guess?

Natasha Carter. The 'princess'.

"You gotta stop obsessing with her." I gave the magazine back.

"But do you see her body? Like holy shit."

Yeah, she's attractive, but what does everyone see in her? She's just some wannabe who wants to become a Victoria Secret model or something.

"Too bad she's a senior. Aww, way out of your league." I teased him.

"Plus, the only thing I find hot are the wrestling sweaty mats. Speaking of, you ready this season?"

"Hell yeah, we gonna crush Crawford like we did last year, but even harder. Then we gonna make it to state."

We were all getting in shape for wrestling this season before school started. Because a team without muscle is a team meant for losers and pussies, according to coach.

"Hey, wanna stay over tonight? Gonna be watching Angelina and her perfect body. That sounds nice, huh?"

"Yo, I wish I can, but my mom wants me to stay for dinner to impress her new uptight clients. I mean, they can't take a joke!"

"Ouch, sucks to be you...have fun!"

Wes looked at his phone. "Ssshit! I was supposed to pick up flowers from the shop. I gotta go."

"Bye, man."

He ran out the door. Haha idiot.

I went online to see what's happening.

Lakefront's Princess-

Swipe.

Natasha Carter is the-

Swipe.

Jackie Carter's daughter-

Swipe. She is everywhere.

Cassie case back downstairs. "Who was that?"

"Oh, Wes just left." Her face cringed.

"Thank god. I can't stand him. Oh! By the way, Nattie is coming back this week!"

"Oh, that's great!" I said with faked enthusiasm.

I don't know why, but I just can't stand Nat Carter.

-

Thirty-three. Thirty four.

I don't know why people hate push-ups. It gives me strength, power.

The doorbell rang.

I was in gym shorts and a sweaty muscle tee. That's presentable enough.

Lila stood at the other side. Just fucking great. Another one of Cassie annoying friends.

"Hey, Ollie." She was staring at my sweating body. I shifted uncomfortably. She really found me attractive like this? Girls are fucking weird.

"Aren't you growing up! Growing up very nice..." She trailed off.

"Okay then." I let her inside.

"Cassie! Lila's here!" I shouted.

"Come upstairs!"

I turned back to her and I'm pretty sure she was staring at my ass.

She went up the stairs and looked behind her. "Well, I'll see you later, Ollie." She swayed her hips up to the top.

The house phone rang. I picked it up.

"Is David here?"

My fist tightened. I hated hearing his name.

"No, he's not. Who is this?"

"Amanda, his secretary. I need to-no Amanda, he's not gonna come back here, so stop calling if he wants a booty call." I slammed the phone down.

Yeah, my dad is a fucking douche that cheated on my mom with, surprise, his secretary. And broke this family apart.

I groaned. I need to get out of this house.

I got my keys and glasses and got in the car.

I just stared driving. I had no idea where I was heading to. I wasn't paying attention to anything.

I can go defeat any challenge life shits on me. But I always lose to this one. Every time.

-

The bar was incredulously loud. Music blasting from the speakers, people cheering, and the microphone was screeching every time I get close to it. But I was too drunk to care.

"HA HA HA HA STAYING ALIVE, STAYING ALIVE"

One of my favorite songs I was a kid. Dad used to play it all the time. How ironic.

"HA HA HA HA STAYING ALIVEEEE-AHHHIVE-AHHHIVE-AHHHIVE"

I finished off the last key, getting on my knees, and raising my arms. The crowd goes wild. Wooo!

"Dude, you fucking suck!"

I opened my eyes and saw a fat, middle age guy at the bar. Everyone else were sitting at tables, doing their own thing.

Shit, I made the whole thing up. Whoops lol haha.

"Thank youuu, uhh Kevin! And also, fuck you!" I flipped him off.

"My name is not Kev-" He clearly doesn't watch The Office.

I dropped the microphone and went to the bar. I don't know what happened next, my drunk self was already talking some random shit.

"And then, when I saw him, I punched the shit outta him man, like whoopa!" I motioned the punch and then laughed my ass off.

Blake, the bartender continued pouring the drink.

"Hey, that was funny!"

He shook his head. "Not really, man."

"When you have a joke, I'm not gonna laugh. I'm gonna do this." I wired my mouth shut.

Then I bursting out laughing. "Nope, can't do it."

"Hit me another beer." I went to reach for one, but he pulled it back.

"Heyy!"

"You should go home. You had enough to drink."

"Okay, fuck you too, party pooper!"

"Where are your keys?"

I pulled them out. "They right here, mister, and you are not getting-"

He took them from my hand.

"Motherfucker!"

"Call someone. I'm not letting you drive yourself back home."

"Please give them backkk!" I pouted.

"No."

"Blake. Blakey, Blake, Blake. I promise I won't do anything, give me my keys."

"No. Call. Now."

"Ughhhh. Fine." I pressed the first number that came up.

"Ollie? Hello?"

"Hey, sis. What's uppp?"

"Are you drunk?"

"Noooo?"

"Oliver."

"Maybeee...yeah?"

"Kid, your so fucking stupid."

"Blake told me to call you, so blame him, not me. I'm the victim here!"

A few voice were on te other side of the phone. "I'm coming to pick you up."

"Okay, how do them valley girls say bye? Oh! Bye-eee!"

She hung up. Rude.

"I'm gonna take a little nap, right here..." I slouched on the counter and dosed off.

Someone was hitting me. "Oww, quit it."

"Get up."

I groaned and got up to see an annoyed Cassie.

"Blake, thanks again."

"Anytime." They both grinned.

Hmm. Interesting.

She dragged me into her car.

"What about my car?"

"We'll get it tomorrow. Here, drink this." She handed me a bottle of water. I drank from it. I already feeling less drunk.

"Funny how your the DD now. Haha, hilarious." I laughed to myself.

"Well, I'm responsible for you too, right? Not just you for me."

She pulled out of the parking lot.

"Sooo, how's the party?"

She groaned. "It was straight up shit. Luke didn't even come!"

"Aww, Hill dumped you for someone else?" I smirked and looked at her.

She punched me in the arm. Damn, she got a good cut. "Ow, fuck! I was playing, Cass! God!"

"Just be happy that you are drunk. I would done it harder when you're sober so you can actually feel it."

"Sheesh."

Her lips curled up for a second. She loves tormenting me. Sadistic bitch.

"Oh, by the way, are you fucking him?"

"Who?"

"Don't play dumb with me. Blake."

"Why would I tell you about my sex life?"

I shrugged "Fair point." But I lowkey wanted to know.

I squinted at the window. "I can't see shit. Where are my glasses? Ah shit, I lost them again. Mom is gonna-"

"They're on the top of your head, fucking dumbass."

"Oh." I felt them on my head, then put them on.

We drove in silence.

"Dad's mistress called."

Cassie's grip on the stirring wheel tightened.

I sighed. "Yeah, I hate him."

She brought one of her hands to touch mine.

"I hate him, too."

We got home.

"Hey, Ollie?" I turned around.

"Don't let that dickhead get to you. You know I'm always here." She pulled me into a hug.

"Thanks, Cass."

"Go to bed, you're gonna have a pretty bad hangover tomorrow."

"Wish me luck."

Luck was all I needed right now.
