(Ash POV)

It is now the morning for my first gym badge. We were on our way to the gym after everyone got up and ate breakfast. Everyone seems to be excited for my gym match, especially Serena for some reason.

"Are we there yet?" Bonnie asked.

"Not yet Bonnie we're almost there just be patient" Clemont said.

"Awww I want to see Ash battle now" she complained.

"Don't worry Bonnie when we get there I'll battle with all I got it will be worth the wait" I said to Bonnie.

Unknown to Ash, Serena was smiling and staring at him when Ash made that comment. She just couldn't help but to smile at Ash's determination and spirt, even though she hasn't seen him battle yet.

"Ash is really pumped up for this, I can't wait to see him battle" Serena thought to herself.

After walking for about 10 minutes they reached the front steps of the gym. As they were about to enter, the doors already opened only to see a Helioptile run out and jumped out at me.

"Helioptile, it's great to see you again", I said to it as it then was greeting Pikachu.

"Pika"

"Heli" the two electric types Pokémon said to each other.

"Ash? You know this Pokémon?", Clemont asked.

"Ya this Helioptile happens to belong to Alexa, she is also the gym leaders sister."

"She is! You never told us that" Serena said. I then sweat dropped for not telling them sooner.

"I didn't.... oh.... Uh.... Now you know." I said sheepishly.

All four of us then walked into the gym only to see Alexa talking to who I presume is Viola, they were catching up on how they were doing in till Alexa looked over at me and then smile.

"There he is, Viola I would like to introduce Ash the trainer I told you about" She said as Viola looked over at me and smile.

"Hello there Ash it's so nice to m......." Viola started to say as she stopped and stared at me for a minute.

"Wait aren't you...." She said still staring at me.

"Is he what" Clemont asked. After another minute she then came to a realization. She then had a shocked yet exited looking face as she looked at me.

"You're him you're really him, the one on the news three nights ago" Viola said.

"I was?" I asked her.

"He was?" Alexa said not knowing what she is talking about.

"You know, the whole Garchomp incident in Lumiose city, I saw it on TV, you climbed to the top of Prism Tower, you stopped Garchomp from destroying the whole city, and you save the girl Garchomp had captive" she said, she then notice that Serena was standing next to me and came to another realization.

"Oh I see the girl you saved is with you" she said and looked over and saw Clemont and Bonnie standing next to her. "And you might you guys be?"

"I'm Bonnie"

"My name is Clemont"

"And I'm Serena" the three said to introduced themselves to her.

"Nice you meet you all" Viola said.

"Ash... I didn't know you were the one who stopped Garchomp, getting ourselves in trouble on your first day in Kalos are we?" Alexa said giving me a sly look.

"Well I.... uh...." I said not knowing what to say and sweat dropping at the same time. Bonnie then intervened as she got down on one knee in front of Viola and said.

"You look so pretty would you take care of my brother?"

"What?!?!" she said a little creeped out.

"BONNIE I TOLD YOU TO STOP DOING THAT" Clemont said as the robotic arm from his back pack came out and lifted her away from Viola and he and Bonnie left the gym for a moment.

"Uh Serena... what just happened" I said sweat dropping.

"Oh don't worry about she does that all the time, she even did it to me the first time we met" she giggled.

"Uh... ok so anyways Viola I'm here to challenge you for the bug badge, do you accept?".

"Of course I accept, you must be quit the trainer if you jumped of prism tower just to save Serena, she must mean a lot to you, does she" she said.

"Uh ya... I mean she is my friend and I made a promise to her that I will always protect her".

Little does Ash know, Serena was blushing when ash said that. But her face was already red when Viola said that.

"Why did Viola say that... does she think I'm his girlfriend? Not that I mind" Serena thought to herself still blushing while she was looking at Ash.

"Well... now I'm even more impressed, anyways shall we start?" Viola asked.

"You bet" I said as I follow her to the battle field.

I stood on one side of the battle field as Viola stood on the other side getting ready. Alexa, Clemont, Bonnie, and Serena were on the side lines to watch my battle.

"You ready Ash?" She asked.

"You bet!" I said throwing my fist into the air. I can't wait for this battle to start the sooner it does the sooner I get my first gym badge. The only person standing in my way is Viola.

The referee then got onto the field and stood in the middle of the battle field on one of the edges.

"Ok this gym match between Viola the gym leader and Ash the challenger is about to begin, each side will use two Pokémon, when two Pokémon from one side is unable to battle the other side is declared the winner, furthermore only the challenger is allowed to substitute Pokémon, the gym leader will choose their first Pokémon" the referee said.

"Ok here comes my first Pokémon go Surskit" she said as she threw the pokeball in front of her. A little blue spider like Pokémon came out looking like its ready to battle.

"A Surskit uh" I said as I pulled out my Pokédex and scanned the pokemon

"Surskit the pond skater pokemon, It appears as if it is skating on water. It draws prey with a sweet scent from the tip of its head". It said.

"A water type, you up to this Pikachu?"

"Pikach!" The electric mouse pokemon said as he jumped off of Ash's shoulder and stood on the field ready to battle.

Just then Fennekin came out of its pokeball and got on top of the ledge to watch the battle.

"Huh? Fennekin why did you come out of your pokeball" Serena asked.

"Fen Fennekin" it said staring at Pikachu with a lit shade of pink on her cheeks.

"Ohhh I see, you want to watch Pikachu battle" she said when she got the idea. "Ok you can watch."

"Why is Fennekins cheeks red" Bonnie thought she then looked at what Fennekin was looking. "Wait, she's staring at Pikachu does that mean.... Wow I guess it is like trainer like Pokémon" She thought.

"Ok Ash you may take the first move" Viola said.

"Ok then, Pikachu use Thunderbolt". Pikachu then unleashed a powerful thunderbolt at the Surskit. It was about to hit but then...

"Skate around and dodge it". The Surskit easily avoided the attack and was now moving around the battle field as if it was skating. Pikachu was starting to get dizzy watching Surskit going back and forth on the field. I needed to get Pikachu to catch up with it.

"Pikachu use quick attack to get to Surskit." He then sprinted towards the Surskit was able to catch up with it as he was moving closer and closer.

"Surskit use Sticky Web to slow down Pikachu." She said.

"Dodge it". As Surskit shoot a bunch of sticky bunch of a watt web from the point on its head. My Pikachu was able to dodge all of them. In till...

"Now use ice beam on the ground".

"What on the ground?" I thought. The Surskit then unleashed a jet stream of ice from its tip and shoot the ground in front of it. Soon the ice then spread throughout the field and in seconds the entire field was cover in ice.

"What?!?!"

"Now the real battle starts, use Signal Beam"

"Dodge it". Pikachu tried to get out of the attacks way but it slipped on the ice and landed on its stomach. While it was down the signal beam continued its attack and hit Pikachu dead on.

"Oh no Pikachu" I said as Pikachu slowly got up struggling to stand. "Pika" It weakly said looking back at Surskit. "Pikachu stand strong."

"Things are not looking good for Ash" Clemont said from the side.

"That's my sister, always full of surprises" Alexa said.

"Awww poor Pikachu" Bonnie said. Serena and Fennekin looked really worried about Ash and Pikachu. Not only Surskit will be hard to dodge but the ice field makes it easier for Surskit to attack.

"Fen" Fennekin said with a worried expression as she looked at Pikachu.

"I know Fennekin I'm worried too but we have to believe Ash can still win" Serena said as she tried to comfort her Fennekin.

"Alright Pikachu use Thunderbolt again." It then tried to shoot its attack at Surskit but the back blast of the attack made Pikachu loose his balance and then fell down again causing the attack to miss.

"No not again"

"Now use Bubble Beam". The beam of bubbles was now coming straight at Pikachu like the signal beam. Although it won't do much damage I can't let it hit.

"Use Iron Tail and reflect it".

Pikachu jumped into the are then turn its tail into steel and then reflected the incoming attack. As the attack finished Pikachu was able land on the ground without slipping using its tail to keep balance.

"What, its tail, that it".

"Pikachu use Iron tail on the ground".

"What?" Viola said. Pikachu then hit the ground underneath it with its tail and broke the ice. It was not standing on the hard ground like it was before.

"Now use Thunder bolt"

"Surskit use Protect". The Surskit then put a barrier around its self ready to shield its self from the attack.

"Good move, to bad I'm not aiming for Surskit" I said with a devious smile.

"What?!?!" she said. Instead of the thunderbolt hitting Surskit it hit the ground in front of it and shattered the ice in front of it leaving nothing but solid ground left at where the attack hit.

"Great job Pikachu keep using Thunder bolt on the field". And with that the ice field slowly depleted and got rid of all the ice on the field while Surskit could do nothing but watch due to the effects of the protect.

"Incredible Ash actually cleared the field of all the ice." Clemont said.

"Wow that was amazing" Serena said looking relieved and Fennekin happily barked for Pikachu getting out of a bad situation.

"So much for your ice field"

"No use trying to use Ice Beam again on the ground... so in that case, use Ice Bean on Pikachu".

"Pikachu use quick attack head on to ice beam"

"Huh what is he doing?" Bonnie asked.

"Knowing Ash he has something planned" Alexa said. And she's right, was Pikachu was head straight towards the ice beam I yelled...

"Jump". Pikachu then jumped straight into the air and was now right over Surskit and dodged the attack completely.

"What?!?!" Voila said.

"Finish it off with Thunderbolt". Pikachu then unleashed a powerful thunderbolt straight at Surskit while it was still using ice beam. It was not able to react at the time and was unable to dodge the attack and took the thunderbolt head on.

"Surskit!!!" Voila said. After the attack Surskit was just standing there unable to move. But after a couple of seconds it then fell to the ground and fainted with swirly eyes.

"Surskit is unable to battle the winner is Pikachu" the referee said.

"Alright Pikachu great job Pikachu"

"Pika" it said with confidents after a long battle. " You did great Pikachu take a break for now." I said as Pikachu walked back to me and sat right by my leg.

"Wow Ash was amazing" Serena said staring at Ash with a slight shade of pink cheeks.

"Fen fen" Fennekin said with also having some pink in her cheek while staring at Pikachu.

"Here we go again" Bonnie thought playfully rolling her eyes.

"Wow Ash that was impressive but now let's see how you do against my next Pokémon" Voila said as she throw her next Pokeball. "Go Vivillon." A big butterfly like pokemon came out and flying gracefully in the air.

"A Vivillon uh..." I said as I pulled out my Pokédex and scanned it.

Vivillon, the Scale Pokémon. The patterns on this Pokémon's wings depend on the climate and topography of its habitat. It scatters colorful scales.

"Ok time for my next Pokémon go Fletchling" I said as I threw its pokeball out and out came my energetic Fletching.

"I see a flying type don't think for a second you have the advantage just because you have Fletchling" She said.

"I won't but let's what your Vivillon can do against my Fletchling"

"Ok since you asked for it use gust" She said.

"Fletchling ride that gust". Was the gust was coming towards Fletchling he was easily flying with the wind and was using it to gain some speed.

"Now that you got some speed use Steel Wing". It was now heading towards Vivillon with its steel hard winds with incredible speed, since it was so fast Vivillon was unable to dodge the attack and was hit straight on and it crashed into the ground.

"Vivillon you been hit harder before shake it off" she said. And after a couple of seconds Vivillon was now flying back into the air like nothing happened. "You will have to do better than that to beat my Vivillon."

"Your Vivillon is pretty strong but let's see how you do against this, use Peck."

Fletchling was not heading straight towards Vivillon with increasable speed but Vivillon was ready.

"Use physic and stop it in its track." Vivillons eyes turned blue as it stopped my Fletchling mid attack in the air.

"What!"

"You like that, that's a little trick I learned from another trainer I faced" she said. That trick she did does seem familiar but from where...

"Now send it to the ground" She said. That snapped me out of my thoughts as Fletchling was smashed against the ground looking worse for the wear.

"Fletchling get up!!!" I yelled. It got up slowly and looked like it was in bad condition but it was still able to fight.

"Great now use Razor Wind"

"Counter with Gust" she said.

The two Pokémon flapped there wings unleashing there attacks at each other. The two attacks were evenly matched as they collided in the air.

"Now use sleep powder into gust"

"SLEEP POEDER!?!?" I said shocked. The Vivillon unleashed a light green like powder from its wings and was heading straight towards Fletchling."

"Dodge it." But it was no use, the gust blew the powder right at Fletchling making it difficult to dodge.

"Now finish it off with Solar Beam" she said.

"What it knows Solar Beam too!?!?" the Vivillon was now charging its attack and was aiming straight at Fletchling who was asleep on the ground.

"Fletchling wake up" I yelled. But it was no use as Fletchling was still laying on the ground fast asleep as Vivillon finished charging its attack.

"Now fire" She said. Vivillon then unleashed a power solar beam straight at Fletchling. The attack then collided Fletchling as a huge explosion appeared after contact. When the smoke cleared all that was left was Fletchling laying on its back with swirly eyes. 

"Fletchling is unable to battle the winner is Vivillon" the referee said.

"Oh no this isn't looking good for Ash", Clemont said.

"Come on Clemont this is Ash is still in this he can do it" Serena said, but she looked a bit worried when she said that.

"Fletchling return" I said as I returned Fletchling into its pokeball. "You did well take a rest"

"Well Ash it's down to our last Pokémon" Voila said.

"Right, are you ready Pikachu?"

"Pika Pika" it said as it ran onto the field ready for battle.

"Go Pikachu you can do it" Bonnie said.

"Fen Fen" Fennekin cheered from the side.

"Ok Pikachu start off with Electro Ball." Pikachu then shot an electrifying ball straight at Vivillon.

"Use Physic to stop it" she said. Like before Vivillons eyes turned blue and caught the attack midair with its physic powers.

"Oh no not again"

"Send it back." The electro ball was now heading right back at Pikachu I needed to act fast.

"Use Quick attack to dodge it." Pikachu was now sprinting away from the attack as he was heading straight towards Vivillon.

"Now Thunderbolt."

"Vivillon Dodge it." Vivillon got out of the way again easily since it was in the air and Pikachu was on the ground.

"Think Ash what am I going to do?"

"Vivillon use gust" she said. The butterfly Pokémon then flapped its wings and the gust of wind was heading straight at Pikachu. I knew Pikachu could not dodge it but I had another idea.

"Pikachu use Iron tail to anchor yourself to the ground."

"Huh?" she said. Pikachu smashed it tail into the ground with iron tail and use it to say space. He was able to stand firm against the gust.

"I see, that was clever what you did but now Pikachu is stuck in that spot." I looked over at Pikachu and she was right. His tail was jammed into the ground and he couldn't get it out.

"Oh no, Pikachu keep moving your tail to break free."

"Oh no you don't Vivillon use sleep powder." Vivillon unleashed another green like powder towards Pikachu as he was trying to get his tail out of the ground.

"Hurry Pikachu." But it was too late. He was able to finally get his tail out of the ground but not before it was covered with Vivillons sleep powder.

"No Pikachu." I said. He was barely standing and half asleep trying its hardest to stay awake.

"Let's finish it off Vivillon with Solar Beam." Viola said. Vivillon charging its attack getting ready for its attack.

"Pikachu I know things look bad but we been in tough times before, just stay strong Pikachu and remember what I always said, don't give up in till it's over."

Unknown to Ash, the last thing he just said just made Serena realized something. It was back at summer camp when she and Ash were little. She remembered when she was on the ground with her hurt leg. She thought things were going to get worse, but it was Ash who came and found her, it was Ash who helped her up, it was Ash who said don't give up in till it's over. Ash was there when she need it. Now she had to be there for Ash.

"Ash remember your training." Serena yelled from the side line.

"Fenn" Fennekin yelled cheering on Pikachu.

"What can I do, the sleep powder was about to take its effect I need to get rid of it before it does. How am I.... wait I could.... That's it."

"Pikachu use Electro Ball on yourself."

"What on his self?" Voila said confused.

"What is Ash dong?" Bonnie said.

"Just wait, Ash must be doing something creative" Alexa said.

Pikachu with all of its strength shoot its attack straight up in the air as Pikachu fell to the ground sleeping. I thought it was all over, but the electro ball came back down and hit Pikachu on its head and caused an explosion. When the smoke cleared Pikachu was standing wide awake in the spot it shoots its attack. The electro ball cleared all the sleep powder away and was ready for battle

"Alright Pikachu"

"Incredible first the ice field and now the sleep powder Ash is full surprises" Clemont said.

"I had to admit that was really clever but Solar Beam is now fully charged, Vivillon unleash it" Voila said.

The solar beam was now coming straight at Pikachu. But I am not going to give up that easily I have one more surprise to show her.

"Pikachu use jump up and use Volt Tackle."

"VOLT TACKLE!!!" Voila said shocked. Pikachu jumped up into the air just in time to avoid the solar beam. He them covered itself with a cloak of electricity and came straight at Vivillon. Vivillon was so shocked on what happened and was very tired after using solar beam that it was unable to dodge the attack and was hit straight on knocking back a couple of yards.

"No Vivillon" Voila said.

"Finish it off with Thunder Bolt." Pikachu the hit the Vivillon with a powerful electric attack and it fell to the ground, crashing very hard. After the dust cleared, Vivillon was just laying on its back with swirly eyes.

"Vivillon is unable to battle Pikachu is the winner, which means Ash the challenger is the winner." The Referee said.

"Yes Pikachu we did it"

"Pi Pikachu" it said happily.

"Ash" I heard. I turned around and saw Serena and Fennekin running towards us. Soon after Alexa, Clemont, and Bonnie came and joined us.

"That was amazing Ash you are such an amazing person."

"Huh?"

"Err... uh I mean trainer" She said to me smiling.

"Fen fennekin" her Fennekin said staring at my Pikachu with a little shade of pink in her cheeks. I wonder why its cheeks were pink.

We were in the lobby of the gym a little after the battle just ended.

"Ash I had to say that was quit the battle I haven't had a battle like that since that one trainer I faced I long time ago, in recognition of your victory here I would like to give you the bug badge." She said as she handed me the badge. It looked like a beetle with little green eyes.

"Wow thanks Viola, ALL RIGHT I GOT THE BUG BADGE." I said a little loud then I meant to.

"Ash I tell you are going to do great on your journey, but for now I have to head out those stories aren't going to write themselves." Alexa said.

"Ok Alexa I'll see you soon." And with that she started to walk away from us as we all waved good bye.

"Hey Ash I think we should head back to the Pokémon center, Pikachu and Fletchling might need to get checkup after the battle you just had." Clemont said.

"Alright thanks again Viola" I said as all four of us started to walk away. But then something then popped into my mind. It was something I meant to ask Viola ever since the battle ended.

"Hey Voila?"

"Yes Ash" she said to me.

"I been meaning to asked you, who was that trainer you learned that trick from and that I remind you of him"

"Hmm....... You know, I never got his name. All I know was he had glasses, a green hat, and he had a Smeargle."

"Hat, Glasses, Smeargle.... Wait.... Is was she talking about Lucas?"
