There's Always A Place Like Home

Red's POV

"I brought Sudowoodo here and-" I said, interrupted by Joy.

"I'm really sorry."

"Uh, actually the thing is, Sudowoodo was abandoned by his trainer." I said, trying my best to make up stuff. "The trainer left him in the middle of the route and told Sudowoodo that he'll come back, but he never did."

"Oh." Said Nurse Joy. "Sounds very familiar to me. If that's the case, you can take him."

"Where is he again?" I asked.

Nurse Joy led me to a room where Sudowoodo layed on the bed. Next to me stood my newly evolved Pokemon - Espeon.

"He is now fighting fit." Said Nurse Joy. "Walking out of the room."

Sudowoodo stood up quickly, full of energy, he looked at Espeon as if he was trying to say something, without even saying. Okay, this sounds bizarre.

"Let's go." I said, walking to the door. "Let's find your trainer."

"Sudowoodo." Said Sudowoodo, sadly.

"What's the matter?" I asked, worried. "Okay, do you know where your trainer lives?"

Sudowoodo nodded to say yes.

"Were you lost when I found you?" I asked. Sudowoodo nodded again.

"Did you run away?" Sudowoodo shook his head in disagreement.

"Where does your trainer live?" I asked, Sudowoodo couldn't really answer that question as I won't be able to understand.

Sudowoodo pointed at the window. Through the window, the Moomoo Village could be seen.

"The Moomoo Village?" I asked, Sudowoodo nodded. "This was easy."

The next we did when Sudowoodo was back to walking condition - we walked. Obviously. To the village.

If Sudowoodo was right, his trainer should not be far from the Moomoo Village, or maybe he lives somewhere in the village itself.

The village was huge. It wasn't even a village, seemed more like a town to me. I mean, this place should be on the map.

It had an infrastructure just like Pallet Town. I walked passed a fountain in the direction Sudowoodo was steering me. Around the fountain were buildings with gift and grocery stores.

Averagely, the buildings had a perfectly painted cream color along with white panels on which the windows were made.

The streets almost felt like I was in the fictional city of Barcelona from where the famous FIFA show character Messi belonged.

Undoubtedly, Sudowoodo was confused and I was curious to know his story. I had questions. Why was Sudowoodo so lost? Why was he showing such uncanny behaviour?

Sudowoodo's POV

The Espeon was fully aware of what happened to me. I quietly walked, finding my way home.

I lived in an urban family. Henry, a 67 year old, was my trainer. We had a ton of adventures together and we had always been there for each other.

I've been his Pokemon since he was about 10. Then he finally grew up, married, had children, his children married, one of them went away for a while and had been away ever since.

One day, he slept and never woke up. That was the day I ran away, leaving his daughter and her kids alone.

I bumped into a wild Pokemon and it chased me. I was so scared that I hid inside a truck which drove away to Kanto.

It took me 3 long months to find my way back. But, what for.

Henry was gone and he always will be. He was everything to me.

I cried but I tried to conceal my tears. I didn't want the kid or the Espeon to see me like that.

We continued walking.

Red's POV

I had no idea whether Sudowoodo was heading to the right direction, nor could I confirm it without Sudowoodo sign language (if that's a thing).

Sudowoodo finally stop, looking at a house which was on the end of the street. He just stood there, looking at the house.

I didn't really wanted to ruin the dramatic moment but I was certain that he'd cry any second.

He walked slowly, taking his steps confidently.

"Are we there?" I asked, hoping he'll nod his head.

Sudowoodo looked at me and smiled.

We quickly walked to the main door of the house and I ran the bell. The house was good, simple and was clearly like my dream house.

I need to check my account, how much money I must've made over the past year by winning matches.

The door was opened by a lady, she looked at me and then Sudowoodo.

"Uh, yes?" Asked the lady.

"Hello, I'm Red." I said. "I believe Sudowoodo is your Pokemon."

She stared at Sudowoodo and tears came from her eyes.

"He is my father's." She said.

"He'll be happy to see him then." I said, pleasantly.

"Come on in, Sudowoodo." Said the lady, Sudowoodo walked inside and rhe lady looked back at me. "My father is...no more."

I was short of words. This was the hardest thing for me to interpret. I could only imagine that fact. How hard it must be for a Pokemon to lose its trainer. That's the same thing that happened to Pikachu.

My heart sank into the deepest parts of the ocean and a cold chill ran through my spine.

"Take care." I said, in sorrow.

"You should come inside." Said the lady. "I just made tea."

"I- have to go." I said. "I'm already running late."

"We don't normally have visitors." Said the lady. "My daughter would be happy."

I had no way out. I couldn't just say no to her or run away, that'd be just rude.

"Sure." I smiled. I walked inside and the woman made me sit on a couch in her living room. "Emmy! Come on out."

A 7 year old girl crawled out from beneath the dining table.

She quietly sat in front of me while her mother went inside.

"Hello." Said Emmy. "You bought Sudo back?"

"Uh, brought, yes." I said.

"Are you a trainer?" Asked Emmy.

"I am." I smiled.

"Do you have Pokemon?" She asked.

"Yes, trainers have Pokemon." I said.

"Can I see them?" She asked. "Mom doesn't let me play with them."

"Why is that?" I asked, I was nervous. I wanted to leave. And I was curious to know where Sudowoodo was. I looked here and there. He sat on a chair in front of a photograph, which belonged to young trainer. Probably his trainer.

"Because she says we shouldn't bond with Pokemon that much. It only hurts Pokemon that way." Said Emmy.

What Emmy said, it touched my heart. It's true infact. I have seen signs of weakness in Pikachu when I talk about Dad. I know Pikachu was his partner Pokemon, and that's a big deal. No wonder he misses him so much.

Dad was amazing. He was always there for everyone in his life. And now that I think about him, I feel nothing but becoming like him. Perfect at everything.

"Come out, Pikachu." I said. "Emmy you're right. But Pokemon makes us who we are, in today's world."

"What does that mean?" She asked.

"Is your mom working?" I asked.

"She works at a call center nearby." Said Emmy.

"So when your mom isn't home, what do you do, whom do you play with?" I asked.

"Barbie." Smiled Emmy.

"But does Barbie give you the feeling that she's your friend?" I asked.

"No." Said Emmy.

"Pokemon can do that." I said, looking at Pikachu. Pikachu smiled and walked to Emmy.

Emmy patted his head. "Pika pika."

"Uh, don't do that." I said. "Pikachu's like the gentle rubs. And don't say pika pika, you might accidentally say something not so good in his language."

"Haha, okay." Emmy giggled. "I'm Emmy. What's your name?"

"Pikachu." Said Pikachu.

After half an hour, I was headed outside. Emmy, her mother and Sudowoodo waved at me, saying goodbye.

"Red!" Lyra came running from nowhere. "I found you, yay. Where were you?"

"Somewhere." I said. "Where are Cassidy amd Butch?"

"Uh, they got arrested and are now bad again." Said Lyra.

"Huh." I said. "Sounds familiar. Olivine is that way."

"I know I know." Said Lyra, running towards Olivine.
