Ethan's POV

We stood outside the collapsed building. The air was foul with detritus of the Ruin. There was no one else to be seen.

Officer Jenny was calling a police force. Lyra and Red acted weirdly, gazing at Bugsy. And I looked at the two, who stared at Bugsy, who was looking at the debris.

'Basically', I said, breaking the silence and everyone looked at me. 'The Ruins are ruined'.

Lyra looked away, annoyed. I could easily tell by Red's expression he didn't want to hear from me anymore, maybe because I was casual in everything.

Well, actually being casual was my jam. You don't have to be serious about everything like Red, taking things lightly makes you happier.

Plus, I also thought that there was a serious problem of seriousness in the overly serious 'Serious Family'.

'Uh, Bugsy ?'. Red turned to Bugsy, nervous. 'How did you exactly trigger the Unowns free ?'.

'Uh, there was this painting behind which there was a switch, when pushed it open a gateway of some sort which released the Unowns'. Bugsy explained, stammering.

'Is it possible that these switches are in the other Ruins too ?', asked Lyra, looking away, surprised.

'Yeah, why ?', asked Bugsy.

Suddenly, there was an earthquake, I quickly crouched. Bugsy lost his balance and fell to his knees.

Red covered his head with his bag (this sentence would've sounded way cooler if he used a loaf of bread instead of his bag).

Lyra started walking towards Ruin Two, thinking it would be safer indoors. But, fail, the second Ruin collapsed too.

It started to fall when suddenly it was held by a pink aura.

'Officers, hold it', shouted Officer Jenny. I looked at other officers, they were all look alikes, just like Nurse Joy. I wouldn't be surprised if all of their names would be Jenny.

All of the Officer Jennys (Jennies) had a Pokemon which released the pink aura, in order to hold the Ruin intact.

'Go Ditto'. Red quickly sent out his Pokemon. 'Transform into....that'.

I pointed the Pokedex towards the Pokemon Jenny had.

The Pokedex popped open and displayed the Pokemon's photograph along with information.

'Natu, a Tiny Bird Pokemon. Because its wings aren't yet fully grown, it has to hop to get around. It is always staring at something', explained the Pokedex.

The Pokemon was spherical with its light green body and white wings with some of the feathers being red and black. It's beak was yellow and it's tail was red.

It was as big as my hand and it's eyes gave me feeling that I will sleep on spot if I looked at them a few more seconds.

One of the Officers walked inside with a Growlithe, trying to rescue the civilians inside the Ruin. Luckily, Ruin One did not have any, otherwise they would've gone splat.

Red, tried to hold the Ruin from breaking down with the help of Ditto, transformed into Natu, and using the same Psychic attack.

Ditto had his dot eyes instead of Natu's big round eyes.

I wondered if someone showed a picture of a Pokemon to Ditto, will he transform ? I kept my thoughts to myself.

'Go ! Go ! Go !', shouted Officer Jenny, to some tourists. The tourists started running outside of the Ruin.

Lyra and Red started running towards the Ruin. Bugsy turned to me.

'Come on, Ethan', he said, and I too followed Red.

When the Ruin was a few meters away, Red and Lyra stopped. We had to stop because they stopped.

Suddenly, many Pokemon flew out of the Ruin. They were black in color, I'm not a racist, Johto takes discrimination very seriously. Okay, so they were the color of a Black Panther and had big white eyes.

I was thinking of pointing my Pokedex towards it, but it wasn't the best time to do so, because the Pokemon looked angry. And I had a very bad feeling about it.

'These are Unowns', said Bugsy, frightened.

The Unowns glowed purple-black, looked at us in anger. Bugsy frowned, and started to run away.

One of the Unowns followed Bugsy and used an attack that looked like some blackish-purple beam of light.

Somehow, Bugsy dodged it and the beam made a big hole in the ground, as big as a basketball hoop.

I didn't really needed the name of the attack in that situation, but still, I don't know why, Bugsy shouted, 'That's hidden power'.

The Unown kept attacking Bugsy and he kept on dodging it.

In no time, all the Unowns were attacking tourists and people walking by, including Red who managed to use his Natu-Ditto to tackle them.

Lyra sent out her Marill, who was awake, and her Chikorita. She just had three Pokemon, hopefully, she needed more than that.

Red sent out all of his Pokemon in his team. Charizard, Wartortle, Bulbasaur, Eevee and Jolteon, and Ditto was already out.

I thought not to battle the Unowns but protect Bugsy from being attacked. So I quickly sent out Zubat to counter the Unown.

'Zubat, Confuse Ray', I shouted, pointing at the Unown that followed Bugsy.

The Unown was distracted and stopped attacking Bugsy. Bugsy looked at me in satisfaction.

'Thanks. I can do something good here, Go Scyther'. Bugsy was suddenly very confident. Maybe it was called - Gym Leader Mode.

'Scyther ! Fury Cut that Unown'.

Scyther jumped up to reach the height at which the Unown was levitating and attacked it using it's sword-like hands.

Unown looked confused, obviously because of Zubat's confuse ray'.

'Okay, Zubat. It's time to Bite. I mean, Bite attack', I said, carefully choosing my words.

The Unown's height decreased, it seemed to slow down. Suddenly, it used it's attack.

'Secret Power again ?', I asked.

'Hidden power, Ethan'. Bugsy threw another Pokeball. 'Okay, Heracross, engage it with your Aerial Ace'.

I wanted to check out Heracross' Pokedex but again, it wasn't a right time.

'Okay, Go Quilava'. Quilava stood with all his pride in front of the Unown who attacked Bugsy's Pokemon and Zubat, all at once.

'Quilava, attack the black Pokemon, using Ember'.

What ? Ember was his strongest attack, it's not like I'm some noob.

The tried harder, and suddenly, stopped attacking all of the Pokemon, and aimed at Quilava, maybe because Ember was hurting it more than any other attack.

Quilava fainted. Unown's Hidden Power was too powerful.

'Come back, Quilava. I choose Hoothoot and Houndour. How dare you faint Quilava ?'.

The Unown continued attacking all of them at once.

'Houndour, use Flamethrower. Hoothoot, uh, Peck'.

Unown fainted. It brought me sudden feeling of joy in my heart.

'Yeah, we did it', I said, giving a high five to Bugsy. But, Bugsy's hand stopped after seeing something behind us.

'What ?', I asked, and looked behind.

There were approximately ten Unowns behind me. I looked at them in anger.

'You know, you couldn't do anything to me'.

'Uh, Ethan ? And how's that ?', asked Bugsy.

'Cause I'm going to...', I said, with immense confidence. 'Run !'.

I started running away from the Unowns, towards Red and Lyra, who could easily protect me and Bugsy. Officer Jennies were too busy fighting the Unowns.

'Ethan, don't run', shouted Bugsy.

Zubat, Houndour and Hoothoot followed me. Then, Bugsy realised he was all to himself.

'Red, Lyra, Bugsy is in trouble', I shouted from a distance.

'I think I know what to do', said Lyra. 'Go Sentret, use Sand Attack at every flying thing'.

All the Unowns had sand in their enormous eyes, they continued attacking without aim, some of them attacked other Unowns, which was an advantage.

'Charizard, Dragon Rage at all of them'. Red commanded. Every Unown around Red fell to the ground, fainted.

'Marill, Water Gun', said Lyra. 'Chikorita, switch from Vine Whip to Razor Leaf'.

Unowns kept on fainting but more continued coming out of the Ruin, it was like, there was an Unown army beneath this place.

Our luck wasn't couldn't get any worse, because suddenly, Ruin One started shaking.

I looked at the Ruin, it was really close. The Ruin burst into...into...into ruins. More Unowns came out of Ruin One.

'We are dead', I shouted.

'Worst day', said Bugsy. 'Couldn't get any worse'.

'That's what I was thinking', I said.

'Only if we could talk to these Unowns', shouted Lyra. 'We could settle this peacefully'.

'Lyra. Why didn't you say that earlier ? Ditto, transform into Unown', shouted Red.

Ditto transformed into Unown.

'Ditto, ask them why they are destroying things here'. Red was so confident that Unowns won't attack Ditto.

Ditto didn't really speak anything, it was like Unowns talked telepathically.

Ditto transformed into me and said, 'They say they want a place to live by themself, which should include all the Unowns in every Ruin'.

'Bugsy, how many Ruins...', I asked, interrupted.

'Four', said Bugsy. 'The fourth one is abandoned, no one ever goes in there, so it would be a perfect place for all the Unowns to live, peacefully'.

'Perfect', said Red. 'Ditto, ask them if they would like to live separately in the abandoned Ruin'.

Ditto, once again transformed into Unown. It continued talking to Unowns, using it's telepathic abilities. Then transformed back to me.

'They agree, but they are telling me something about their king. They won't stay quiet until they find their king. They take orders only from him', said Ditto.

'And where can we find the king ?', asked Red.

'In one of these Ruins. There is a blue Unown shaped as alphabet - A', said Ditto.

'Tell them we will help them find the king, in return, we want Ruin One to be rebuild properly. They do have psychic powers', said Red, focusing on his convincing voice.

Red was like a super hero, he was way too intelligent for his age. He became my idol. I was determined to become like Red; brave, kind, confident and clever. Who doesn't want these qualities ?

Ditto was finished talking to the Unowns and transformed back to me.

'Hey, why do you always transform into me ?', I complained. 'It feels supernatural'.

'I'm so sorry, but you see, it is supernatural. Plus, your body structure is easy to replicate, because you are the shortest here', said Ditto.

Bugsy started laughing and I looked back to gave him a glare. That Ditto Pokemon was annoying.

'Unowns agree, they will not only rebuild Ruin One but also never harm any human if we help find the king', said Ditto.

'Okay, let's do this', I said. 'And untransform'.

'Okay', said Ditto, laughing, and then untransforming back to it's original form.

All the Officer Jennies walked away. One of them walked to Red.

'It seemed too easy', said Officer Jenny to Red.

'It was nothing', said Red.

'Thank you, for stopping the Unowns', said Jenny.

'I said, it was no problem', said Red, polite.

I walked to Bugsy. 'Sorry for leaving you alone'.

'Are you ?', asked Bugsy.

'See ! You are alright. I knew nothing would happen to you', I said.

'You didn't do anything except for fainting one Unown. Red was the one who defeated many and calmed the fight down', said Bugsy.

'Why does everyone support Red ? It's like everything just works out for him. Its very easy for Red, right ? Because his Pokemon are powerful', I said.

'Well, he trained his Pokemon to become powerful', said Bugsy.

'You'll see, I'm going to defeat him in the Pokemon League', I said.

'I bet you do', said Bugsy, laughing, prolly not taking me seriously.

I walked to the Pokecentre to get Quilava back to his normal health. He was too tired after the battle.

In the Pokecentre, I saw Red, talking to someone on the PC. I gave Quilava to Nurse Joy and walked to Red.

'Really, miss you Leaf'. Red's eyes were filled with tears. 'So, did you catch any Pokemon there ?'.

'I did. I have a flying type called Starly and bug type Burmy. They both are so cool, I also managed to win the Coal badge from the Oreburgh Gym Leader - Roark', said a girl who Red was talking to in the PC, whose name was Leaf, as Red suggested.

'I have a Ditto, and an Eevee. Guess what ? I caught the Eevee in Violet City', said Red.

'Whoa, that's trippy. So, do you think it's true ? Somehow your Eevee is going to travel to last year, and your past self will obtain it and evolve it into Jolteon', said Leaf.

Half of what Leaf said didn't make any sense.

'I believe so', said Red. 'Last year, the man who gave me the Eevee also said that I was with a girl with a Marill'.

'And ?', asked Leaf.

'My sister Lyra, with whom I'm travelling, she has a Marill', said Red.

'Why is your life so adventurous ? Everything really works out for you, I wish I had that kind of life, simple', said Leaf.

'No, it's not that simple. I would rather lose Indigo League instead of losing my father, that was the worst thing ever happened. So, my life isn't simple, it's hard', said Red.

Oh, so that is what made Red so determined to be a good trainer. I'm not complaining again.

'Okay, gotta go. Lucas doesn't like waiting', said Leaf. 'His friend Barry is the same'.

'Haha, okay', said Red. 'Talk to you later'.

Red hung up the call and started dialing another number.

'Uh, Red ?', I said.

'Ethan ? Yes ?', asked Red, serious.

'Stop acting serious. I saw the real you, that's the better version of you. And I'm sorry to hear about your father', I said.

'It's...fine. And I act serious only to make myself realize that I have to live up to my father's dream. He wanted me to become a Pokemon Master', said Red, his eyes again started to fill with tears.

'I know you would become one soon. I can see the fire in you, no wonder your parents gave you the name, Red', I said, seriously.

'Is there some aura in your family members that makes others serious too ?'.

Red started laughing. 'I think so'.

'But I know so', I said.

'Would you like to talk to Professor Oak ?', asked Red. 'I was about to call him'.

'Nah, maybe next time', I said. 'And tomorrow we need to find that Unown King too'.

'Fine', said Red.
