Chapter Fifty-Two: "Prism & Gold"

Nate gasped loudly in both pain and shock. Grabbing his chest, he rolled to his side and uttered out in a groan. "Oh... That sucked." Mark grabbed his arm, asking him in relief. "Nate? You good?" Nate coughed, grumbling out in slight humor. "Which parts?" Mark swatted his arm, chuckling out. "You scared the hell out of me. I thought you were dead..." Nate rubbed his throbbing chest, pulling his shirt out to see the vest beneath it. He hadn't realized he was wearing that. When had he put that on? Nate wanted to ask where Pryce was, until a loud screech broke out across the sky. Everyone's attention turned to the sky where the Dark Wing Moltres was hovering victorious. Zapdos and Articuno were down and weren't getting up. Allowing the Dark Wing Moltres to turn his attention on the Shaman who was still playing Lugia's song. Around them the crystal pillars glowed in turn to amplify their note. From the base of the platform beneath her, the green water started to overflow the grooves and began to flood the base.

As the green water rushed over the stone platforms, it sloshed over the dirt and began to create fresh healthy flowers. Mark jumped to his feet, yelling out. "We can't let it destroy the shrine!" The Dark Wing Moltres arched in the air, heading directly down over the shrine. Nate pushed up onto his feet, noticing Sean wasn't getting up. Sean was holding his bleeding leg. Nate moved to help him up, when to his shock the older Giovanni rushed out. "It's not after the shrine! NATE!" Nate only had time to turn, when the Dark Wing Moltres swooped over the shrine and headed straight toward him! Mark ducked before the Dark Wing Moltres's talons impaled him. Afraid that Sean would get hurt if he moved, he braced for the impact. The talons closed in on him, until a small pink pokemon swooped in between them. The small pokemon created a pink ball around itself before the Dark Wing Moltres could change course. Everyone around them stopped whatever they were doing to look at the Mew.

The Dark Wing Moltres's talons slammed into the ball of energy created by Mew. While the ball pulsed to try and knock the Dark Wing Moltres back. It didn't appear to be working though. The Dark Wing Moltres's talons were sparking in a twisted dark energy that seemed even too strong for Mew to handle. The sharp talon's pieced into the ball and Mew squealed as she struggled to resist him. Nate felt a pang of fear as Mew whimpered out psychically to those around it. "I can't hold him! He's resistant to me!" The Dark Wing Moltres pushed his talons in more trying to reach Mew who floated in the center. Mark acted quickly, yelling out. "Chad! Shadow Ball!" From the top of the steps, Chad's ghostly hands slipped from under his canvas body and waved around in the air to create a large black ball that was leaking a purple smoke. When it was formed, Chad grabbed the ball and threw it straight at the Dark Wing Moltres's back. The Dark Wing Moltres jerked back from attacking Mew to screech as its body convulsed with blue ripples.

The Older Giovanni pointed at the Dark Wing Moltres, calling aloud. "Mewtwo! Giga Impact!" Both Mark and Nate cursed, dropping to the ground to protect both Sean and Chad in almost perfect unison. Mewtwo dashed across the ground without his armor. Leaping into the air, Mewtwo's arm started to shine with an intense green light. When he reached the Dark Wing Moltres, Mewtwo punched him in the ribs. The Dark Wing Moltres let out a scream as the blow took him to the ground, cracking the stone beneath him before both Mewtwo and the Dark Wing Moltres were engulfed in a blast of white fire. The force from the hit, knocked Mew back through the air. Thanks to its ball, it bounced off the cave wall but fell weakly to the ground. Nate was forced over Sean more like something heavy fell on him, dazing him. Mewtwo had attacked the Dark Wing Moltres with every last bit of energy it had. The force was impressive and overwhelming. After the blow, Mewtwo staggered back away from the body of the Dark Wing Moltres. His attack had taken a lot out of him.

After taking a step or two, Mewtwo collapsed to the ground and began to pant heavily. For a moment, they all relaxed. The Dark Wing Moltres wasn't moving. The green water from the shrine, rushed over the cliffs like a waterfall. As it touched the ocean, the water started to turn a soft sea green and the storm calmed down. The dark storm clouds were fading away to reveal a bright sunny day. The warmth and light had never felt so good. Things were looking up... and then so did the Dark Wing Moltres. The older Giovanni seemed the most shocked as he blurted out. "What?! How?! That's not possible! Nothing stands up to the power of Mews!" Nate sat up off Sean, answering uneasily. "Nothing we've seen... but Necrozma isn't from here..." The older Giovanni shrugged, asking aloud in shock. "Necro-what?" The Dark Wing Moltres stiffly climbed back up onto its feet and spread its wings to screech in anger. The Dark Wing Moltres's head slowly turned to look at Nate and Nate looked down at himself. Why was it after him?

It all made sense after he saw the soft glow coming from his pocket. The Mega Stone. It wanted what belonged to him. The Dark Wing Moltres tried to take a step toward him but collapsed weakly. It only took a few seconds for Necrozma to detach itself from Moltres like it had with Lugia. Moltres was just too weak to be of use to it now. The locals around them started to order attacks against it and even Rainbow Rocket was ordered to join in. However, Necrozma's speed was too fast to get a hit on him and his psychic attacks were brutal even on pokemon that should have been able to resist it. It was just so strong. Nate watched the trainers try with many different pokemon. None of them were able to do enough damage. Fearing that his attacks might destroy the shrine, Nate removed the glowing stone and yelled out. "HEY! You want this?!" Necrozma ended an attack mid charge to look at Nate. Pocketing the stone, Nate sighed and began to run. He didn't want to get trapped in a cave with it. So, he chose the next best thing. Running through the ankle deep green water that was rising around Moltres's unconscious body, Nate ran as fast as he could toward the cliff.

Mark and Sean yelled out to stop him, but Nate hoped that it would buy them all some time. Necrozma lost all interest in the attacks that pelted him from the pokemon to slow him down. His only focus now was Nate. Just as he reached the edge, Nate hesitated as he saw the rocks below. This wouldn't work the way he had thought it would. Even a good jump wouldn't help him clear the rocks. Turning, Nate yelped and ducked as Necrozma swiped out desperately at him. As strong as he was, Necrozma was tired. Falling from the air, Necrozma's large heavy body hit the ground just a few feet from Nate. Nate lost his balance as the ground under his feet broke away from the cliff. Nate screamed as he fell through the air. The air rushed past him as he fell faster and faster toward the rocks. He heard Mark and Sean call his name and looked back to see them. Sean was on the back of his black Charizard, and Mark was on his Tropius. Their pokemon were pushing themselves hard to catch up to him.

As fast as they were, they weren't going to make it. Nate kept his eyes on them though to keep himself from looking down. He didn't want to see his death coming. Instead, he saw Necrozma dive off the cliff to chase after him and a sudden bright light rose behind him. It looked almost like a fiery white angel. Faster than Necrozma and both Mark and Sean's pokemon. It soared down to him with a body of pure fire. As it reached his side, Nate threw caution to the wind and wrapped his arms around the white fiery neck of Moltres! Just before he hit the rocks, Moltres gracefully shifted course to soar across the glowing green ocean surface with a soft delighted cry. Nate didn't understand how Moltres was ok, until he felt how wet he was. Had the green water done something to him? Had it healed him? Adjusting on the back of Moltres better, Nate chuckled to himself. The fire surrounding him was a lot like his Rapidash. It was warm to the touch but didn't burn him. The relief and shock of being alive and on Moltres faded quickly when Necrozma's distorted call rang out over the water. He was gaining on them.

He had just gotten in range to attack, when from the green water below a spout of water shot forth and slammed Necrozma up into the air. Moltres circled wide, watching the waterspout without fear. Mark and Sean hung back, watching as Zapdos and Articuno swooped in to join Moltres with soft cries. When the waterspout burst and dissipated, Lugia hovered in the air with a bright smile on his healed and healthy looking body. The other birds made soft calls at Lugia, who looked at them all in turn. It was a heartwarming reunion. Until Necrozma charged down at Lugia. Lugia was wiser to him now. Diving into the water, where Necrozma hesitated to follow. Moltres and Zapdos rushed in to electrocute and unleash a flamethrower upon it. Prompting Necrozma to turn his attention to them. Setting his sights back on Nate, Necrozma charged straight for him. Moltres looped around to avoid him, luring Necrozma right back into the path of something rushed through the water.

Necrozma began to charge itself to unleash a Photon Geyser, only to get slammed into by Lugia. Lugia burst up from the water, slamming its body into Necrozma. The speed and force of the blow sent Necrozma into the beach. Necrozma made soft distorted noises, trying to get up from being body slammed into the beach. Lugia hopped off it, hovering in the air before flying back out over the water to put some distance between them. Nate could hear the locals cheering Lugia on from the cliffside. On the beach, Necrozma sat up and shot a Prismatic Laser at Moltres. Moltres rolled unexpectedly, causing Nate to slip off and splash into the ocean below. It wasn't that far to fall into, but it still disoriented him a bit. Following the bubbles back to the surface, he burst out and gasped. Necrozma was hovering close to him. The birds had them surrounded but Lugia was telling them to stop in case they hit Nate. Nate treaded water, feeling uneasy as he stared up into the narrowed prism looking face. He could even smell the strong smell of burnt flesh coming from him.

Necrozma reached out for him, when from above them a small pokemon fell from the sky and landed on Necrozma's back. Clinging to Necrozma, Chad gave Nate a little wave, then its body rippled in purplish black smoke. Nate inhaled, ducking under the water as Chad unleashed a Dark Pulse. As Necrozma fell into the water, Nate was caught up in the wave that pushed him away. Coughing as he reached the surface, he found Mark's hand waiting for him this time. Tropius wasn't afraid to get close to the water being a grass type. Grabbing Nate's hand, Mark pulled him onto his pokemon and chuckled out. "You just can't stay out of trouble, can you?" Nate spit sea water, chuckled back. "Apparently not... Thanks." Mark patted his leg, then steered his pokemon back toward the beach. Along the way, Mark scooped up Chad and told him happily. "Good work, Chad. You got him." Chad wrapped his ghostly arms around Mark's neck in a hug that Mark wasn't crazy about... but tolerated.

Landing on the shore, Nate slid off Tropius and smiled warmly as Sean limped over to him. Wrapping Sean in a hug, he scolded him softly. "You should be resting that leg before you bleed out. What are you doing flying off cliffs?" Sean laughed against his shoulder, grumbling out lightly. "Why did your plan involve jumping from one?" Nate blushed, mumbling back. "It felt like a good plan at the time." The music from the cliff died down to silence and they all took a deep breath. It was progress. From the water, Lugia pushed an unconscious Necrozma onto the beach. Mark crossed his arms, asking Lugia curiously. "What do we do with him?" Lugia looked to Nate, telling them psychically for all to hear. "In the time that I was bonded with him. Through the pain... All he wants. Is to go home. And he can't do that without his pieces. He's gathered almost enough of himself to restore himself... He just needs a little more." Sean and Mark looked at Nate, who carefully removed the stone. The stone shimmered a soft red in the sunlight. Curling his fingers around it, Nate asked Lugia nervously. "Are you sure that is what it wants?" Lugia nodded. Nate opened his hand back up. He didn't know what to do with it.

Beside him, Sean picked up the stone from his hand and limped closer to Necrozma. Mark grabbed his arm, telling him in warning. "Be careful..." Sean nodded, then reached out to set it in Necrozma's large palm. Necrozma's fingers curled around the stone, causing the others to tense up. Sean remained calm though as Necrozma looked at him and what he'd given him. Sitting up, Necrozma brought the stone to its mouth and swallowed it. Instantly, Necrozma's body began to heal and shine with a golden light. Rolling over, Necrozma braced himself on all fours and grunted distortedly. Nate rushed up to pick up Sean and carried him back as Necrozma thrashed in the sand. None of them could look away though. As Necrozma healed, his stocky body stretched and thinned out. His legs grew out to strong sturdy feet with sharp white talons that dug deep into the sand. From behind it, a long white tail grew out and popped out spikes of prism crystals. Its arms split to create four golden arms with blazing white wings.

As this new Necrozma straightened up on his hind legs, Necrozma looked up at the sky with a sudden hopefully look. Upon looking down at them, Nate winced a bit. Necrozma was as bright as the sun and his eyes were dazzling with a colorful prism colors that stood out on his small adorable dragon face. Necrozma was a vision of prism and gold. To Be Continued...
