The Magical Kitty Has Found It's New Host ( ^ω^ )

A/N: I wrote this when I was bored at work a while ago. It's based on a Vocaloid song and a fan video I saw of it that I can watch whenever I want. It's called "MagicalNuko Len Len" and I have no idea where to find the fan animation I referenced, but I think it's on YouTube. Anyway, the fan animation had an Eeveelution themed protagonist, so I was thinking about Penny's honest reaction. Along with another Eevee fan...

Language warning. I wrote this for myself and I am an adult who writes what I want. I'm not going to censor what I've already wrote, sorry kids. My drive to share my mind with the world is too strong.

Penny was more excited than usual at the sight of the boxes shipped to her dorm room. She knew that the manga Elaine promised her was supposed to arrive, and sure enough, a book sized package was among the spread today. Penny picked it out right away and tore into the wrapping to get her first look at the manga. It had a drawing of a boy in frilly clothes with Espeon ears and tail on the cover. She figured that must be the titular Magical Kitty Red Red. Before she started reading, Penny decided to read the note that Elaine sent with the book.

Hi Cassiopeia,
I got you that manga you wanted. It was a real pain in the ass to find since it's so old, but I'm sure it'll be worth it. I have a copy from when it was easier to find and not to spoil anything, but it's REALLY GOOD. But anything with a Veevee themed protagonist has to be, right!? Anyway, message me on Discord soon. Idgaf about the timezone difference, us Veevee fans have to stick together!
- EeveeGirl18 aka Elaine

Penny made a mental note to reach out to Elaine; after reading Magical Kitty Red Red, of course. She opened the first page to the table of contents and another cover image. After that, the first chapter began, giving the backstory of the magical kitty. He was a robot made by a lonely scientist, but since the robot had a pure heart and found a magic staff, he became a magical boy. Very standard stuff, Penny had seen it all before. What she hadn't seen before was that his powers were activated by kissing a hot slightly older guy. She strangely liked that.

As she read it, she couldn't decide what her favorite thing about it was. The world building, character designs, artwork, dialogue, humor, and story were all amazing. No wonder it was so hard to find, no one would ever resell a manga of that quality. She messaged Elaine to thank her profusely for introducing her to the series and finding a copy for her, confident that Elaine would read it eventually.

It wasn't too long of a read, and Penny was left wanting more. She didn't find many fanfictions, and for official sources, the mangaka's blog was deleted. Penny sighed in defeat. She looked at the time and realized she should probably sleep, but instead of doing that she stayed up for a few more hours to talk to her online friends.

The next day, after roughly two hours of sleep, Penny was surprised by another package. It wasn't another book, or a figure, or anything else she'd normally order. It was strangely long. She looked for any sign of where it was from, but couldn't find anything. She opened the box and saw something amazing. It was a replica of the Magical Kitty staff, complete with the paintbrush-like cat paw tip. Penny was giddy with excitement; now she wouldn't have to commission an artist to sculpt anything from the series now that she had this massive piece of merch.

Penny figured that Elaine sent it, because she was probably the only other Magical Kitty Red Red fan on the planet. She was so happy that she began a plan to give Elaine something really special in return. Penny finally lifted the staff out of the box, it was surprisingly light, despite seemingly being made of metal. All of Penny's Pokémon in the room, previously just doing their own things, turned to look at her as she picked up the staff. Penny didn't notice, as she tried to decide which shelf to display the staff on.

After finding the perfect place to show it off next to the manga, Penny realized that she should probably actually go to class. There was still some time to make it to her third class of the day, which was math. She actually enjoyed math, which was why she wanted to go. Besides, Ms. Thyme was hard on class skippers, and Penny wanted to stay on her good side considering she was her home room teacher.

Penny walked to class quietly as usual, trying not to draw attention to herself. She didn't want people to bother her, so she kept a brisk pace and walked with her head down. Of course, walking without looking is a great way to crash into things, which she did.

"Ugh, watch where you're going!" Arven, the boy she'd run into, growled. But it was too late, they had collided. Penny's face hurt as she slammed into his, their lips accidentally touching. She recoiled, taken aback. Was that her first kiss!?

"What the hell was that?" Arven winced, looking very annoyed and in pain. Penny wanted to respond, but in her embarrassment words failed her. Her heart was beating faster and faster for some reason, and she figured if she was going to have some kind of fatal attack, it wouldn't be in the hallway full of other students.

"I-I'm sorry!" She blurted out, before scampering away to the nearest bathroom. She looked down at herself and realized that light was emanating from her body. Now she was really starting to freak out, but in a flash of light it was over. She felt different somehow, and she cautiously left the stall to look at herself in the mirror.

Her clothes had changed to be more frilly, but the most unbelievable thing was the Umbreon-like ears and tail protruding from her. She touched them hesitantly, not able to process it with mirror alone. It felt real, and Penny was seriously beginning to freak out. She ran back to the safety of her room, luckily class had started so no one was in the halls. Once back, her Sylveon, sensing her distress, tried to comfort her by nuzzling up to her. Penny appreciated it. She wrote to Elaine over Discord in a panic.

Holy shit I think I'm a magical girl now???? Wtf wtf wtf please help me please I don't know what's happening I acidebatlly kissed someone and I magical girl now what do!?!!?

Elaine responded unusually fast, her sleep schedule must have been messed up again.

Wtf what do you mean??? What the fuck, you're magical kitty? Call now

Penny obliged her request, and went to voice chat.

"Elaine, I don't know what to do," Penny was crying a little bit now. "It's just like the manga. Wait, do you think that staff you sent me was real?!"

"What staff? I only sent you the manga." Elaine sounded very concerned. "Who could've sent something like that?"

"I have no idea, I thought we were the only Magical Kitty Red Red fans," Penny said, before the realization hit her. "Just us and whoever sold you that manga."

"Oh, right! Ugh, of course she has something to do with this..." Elaine said. "Has your transformation worn off yet?"

"Not yet, but it's all happening so fast- Do you think everything in that manga is true? Like, with how the powers work and are activated?" Penny had so many questions, and Elaine had no answers.

"I don't know, but I think the mangaka might. If we can find them, then we might find some answers," Elaine said. "How do you feel about visiting Kanto for a while?"

"You know I hate leaving my room, let alone the country, but I have no other options," Penny sighed. "I didn't think I'd ever show you my face, let alone meet you in person."

"I'm ready, I promise I'm not secretly an old man," Elaine joked, trying to lighten the mood before logging off. Penny was left alone with her Pokémon and her computer. She touched the ears and tail again, and they were still there. But after a few hours, they disappeared, and her clothes changed back to normal. It was all so strange. But, now she had some hope for answers. Unfortunately they were all the way in Kanto, but it was the only way.

~~~
The real mystery is how the academy let Penny go on another mental health break, but for some reason they did. Penny was supposed to meet Elaine at the airport, but she soon realized that neither of them had seen the other's face before. Hell, Penny hadn't even told Elaine her real name. She wondered if Elaine was also using an alias, but didn't think about it too much.
Penny went to the arranged meeting spot and watched the people go past. She wondered which one was Elaine. Sooner than later, a girl roughly the same age as Penny walked towards her with purpose. She had brown hair up in a ponytail and somewhat athletic but still nice clothes. She had an Eevee following her, and Penny just knew it was Elaine.
"Elaine?" Penny asked.
"That's my name, so you must be Cassiopeia," Elaine replied with a smile. "It's nice to finally see you as more than a voice in my computer!"
"Likewise," Penny wasn't used to talking to people like this, but she was more comfortable with an online friend than her own classmates. "Where should we start to look for answers?"
"Hmm, I'd say with the woman who sold the book to me," Elaine said. "She's smart about things like that. Oh, by the way, you can stay at my house while in Kanto. Hotels are way too expensive, and way too dangerous."
"Um, but if I have powers now, who will mess with me?" Penny asked. "Erm, anyway, let's go find this woman as soon as possible."
They left for Celadon City, where the mysterious woman called home. It was a somewhat large town by Kanto standards, and very beautiful. Penny found she liked it more than most towns in Galar, but not as much as some in Paldea. Since Elaine let her Eevee wander around, Penny followed her lead and let some of her Pokémon enjoy the fresh air. The Pokémon seemed to enjoy each other's company, and it made Penny and Elaine happy to see them get along so well. They eventually made it to the residence of the manga seller.
"Whose there?" A voice with a rasp to it asked this after Elaine knocked on the door.
"It's Elaine again, Ms. Green!" Elaine shouted back.
"Elaine? Have you come back to consider being my Pokémon?" Green asked. "Because I'd be so happy if you do!"
"No, I'm here about something else, I don't ever want to belong to you," Elaine replied, glancing back at Penny in embarrassment. Penny tried not to judge, but she couldn't help but wonder about the history between them. "It's about the Magical Kitty Red Red manga you sold me."
"In that case, come in, come in!" The door opened suddenly, revealing a woman with brown hair who seemed to be in her late twenties. She grinned. "You must be Elaine's Internet friend. I'm glad you aren't secretly a fat neckbeard. Nice to meet you."
"Thanks...?" Penny hesitantly shook Green's hand, it had a small but noticeable scar on the palm. Green led them into her house, which was a dark glimpse into what Penny's future house could look like. It was messy, with some empty iced tea bottles strewn about on the floor. The walls had claw marks like some Pokémon had scratched at them, but neither Elaine nor Penny could tell what kind. There was a line of figures on a shelf, but they were all the same one. Most of the furniture didn't match, and Penny just had a feeling that a lot of it was found or stolen. The just felt grimy, and Penny wondered why Elaine knew someone like this.
"Make yourselves at home," Green gestured to the couch. The girls politely sat down, Penny wasn't going to say anything about it, but Elaine had other ideas.
"Clean your fucking house, holy shit," Elaine blurted out unapologetically. Green just shrugged, she seemed used to Elaine by now.
"I would if I could. Now, what do you want to know? Related to Magical Kitty Red Red, of course," Green said with a flourish.
"Well, we want to know if you know where the mangaka Riafu Cake is," Elaine explained. "We have a lot of questions for them about that manga..."
"Ohhh, I haven't heard that name in years!" Green smiled manically. "I'm Riafu Cake, I made that manga!"
"W-what?!" Penny's mouth hung open in disbelief.
"Now, Green, are you sure this isn't another delusion?" Elaine asked sternly, though she was nervous enough to sweat.
"I'm sure, let me take you to the studio," Green offered. The girls exchanged looks, knowing that this was a terrible idea. But Penny needed answers, so she got up to follow Green. Not wanting to be left behind, Elaine joined her.
~~~

The studio was in a similar state as the living room, if not worse. The only difference was the hundreds of drawings littering the ground and tacked to the wall. They all seemed to have the same art style as the manga, therefore either Green was telling the truth or she was a dedicated copycat.

"As you may have guessed, Magical Kitty Red Red is a true story," Green said as she showed the girls a drawing of Red. "I was even in it, I was the lovable pervert Leaf!"

"I thought she reminded me of someone..." Elaine muttered.

"Anyway, I used to have the staff until I sent it away to a new fan in Paldea," Green continued before Penny cut her off.

"YOU sent me the staff?! And you knew what it would do but didn't warn me!?" Penny was enraged, she couldn't see how Green ever thought that was a good idea. Green didn't seem effected by her outburst and continued.

"I figured there was a chance that that fan would have a pure enough heart to take on the power and become a magical girl, and I was right."

"That's impossible, there's no way my heart is pure," Penny replied. "And even if it was, I don't want this. It's a funny series, but everyone was always thirsting after Red. Is that true?"

"Yes, mostly. I made some stuff up, but everyone did want a piece of Red. You're kind of ugly, so I wouldn't worry about it," Green's words hurt, though her intention was unclear. "Anyway, about the pure of heart thing... Even if you've done some morally gray things, it must have been for a noble cause."

Penny was stunned.
