Ash was relaxing on a hill just outside of Pallet. He was content for once. He'd caught all the Pokémon he desired, travelled the world, and made many new friends. He'd even met the girl he fell in love with. One of his former traveling companions, Dawn. Ash stared up at the sky and let his mind wander.

He thought about his father. A man he never met. Ash wondered if his dad would be proud of him. He was pondering the question when a sudden, familiar sound brought him back to reality.

"Prepare for trouble!"

"And make it double!"

Ash looked over to another hill to see Team Rocket. He sighed. One of the things that remained a constant in his life was Team Rocket trying to steal his Pikachu. Ash noticed that Jessie, James, and Meowth were acting slightly different. They all stood slightly straighter and moved stiffly.

The reason for this became apparent. A man in a snazzy suit exited Team Rocket's hot air balloon. He exuded an evil aura. It was none other than Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket.

At that moment Ash's mother, Delia, went outside to see what all the commotion was. She ran to Ash's side.

"What's going on-?" Delia stopped mid sentence when she realized who was there. Giovanni. Delia hadn't seen him in a long time.

"Giovanni?" She said. Giovanni looked just as confused as Delia did. They approached each other.

"So, how have you been doing?" Giovanni asked, in an attempt to start a normal conversation.

"Fine." Delia responded. "I've been raising my son. But he travels a lot, so I don't have to do much."

Ash watched the exchange in confusion. Why was his mom and the leader of Team Rocket talking like old friends? Ash was too far away to tell what they were saying now. Delia looked back at Ash and motioned for him to come over.

"Ash, have you... ever wondered who your father is?" Delia began.

"Yeah, all the time." Ash replied, worry beginning to spread.

"Well, your father is Giovanni." Delia finally admitted. It felt like a weight had been lifted from her. "I probably should have told you sooner."

Ash was shocked. How could it be? He was even more shocked when Giovanni sorta smiled at him.

"We have a lot to talk about, son." Giovanni said the last word hesitantly, as though he wasn't used to using it. Giovanni, Delia, and Ash all went inside the Ketchum's house to talk, leaving Team Rocket standing outside.

"T-the Boss is the twerp's Dad?!" Meowth uttered. Jessie and James where speechless.
