A Good Team.

Probably the most basic thing a Pokemon trainer can strive for, is to build a good team that will stand strong against any strategy... before we can build that team, we will need to learn about several kinds of pokemon.

1. The Wall

2. The Clean Sweeper

3. The Tank

4. The Status giver

5. The Staller

Alot of teams can sometimes be based around 1, or two of these kinds of pokemon, sometimes having an entire team of them. A Staller Team is actually considered the most irritating team of all time, causing battles to take anything from 45 minutes to an hour to complete. Here's some information on each.

1. The Wall: These kinds of pokemon have extremely high stats in the defense and special defense department, being able to take heavy hits with only a tiny fraction of their hp being reduced. These walls don't tend to have offense though, a sacrifice they make for being so extremely durable.

2. The Clean Sweeper: These pokemon are very popular among starting trainers. These pokemon have extremely high speed, and an almost equally insane attack or special attack. Clean Sweepers are actually quite rare as usually pokemon with high speed like Crobat and Noivern, have only high speed, and pokemon like Haxorus and Garchomp have only high attack with average speed that can easily be overcome by a speeder. Clean Sweepers are well known for being able to take down each and every one of the opponent's pokemon in one hit without recieving any damage in return. However, thanks to their very low defenses.. if you miss, or if your speed gets lowered, or if you run into a Wall.. well prepare to kiss that Clean Sweeper goodbye.

3. The Tank. These pokemon are known for being balanced in durability and offense. They can take hits, and deal a lot of dammage. They are very effective against Clean Sweepers and are very good in any team. Tanks usually either have a ton of HP or a large defense or special defense. Snorlax is a very famous tank when he isn't used as a Staller, with large attack and the highest HP out of all Normal type pokemon. Tyrannitar is also a famous tank, with high attack that can reach into the 400s, and high defense, along with his sandstream ability boosting his special defense by 50 percent.

4. The Status giver. These pokemon are purely there to inflict status effects, such as poisoning and paralysis to you your opponent. While Tanks and Walls can take the roll of a status giver just fine.. the best status givers don't have the best stats. The most coveted status givers right now.. are pokemon like Klefki, which has an ability called Prankster. This ability allows the status giver to go first whenever dealing a status effect.

5.The Staller. These pokemon are made to draw out the battle.. period.. These pokemon have insanely high HP, and are extremely bulky. They can take a hit like Walls purely because of their high HP. Pokemon like Miltank, Lapras, Snorlax, Wailord, and Blissey. They tend to know healing moves like Recover, and Rest. Sometimes, pros will forfeit a match to a team of stallers, even though they know they can win.. mainly because fighting stallers are so exremely time consuming and annoying. Sometimes, even the ones using the stallers get bored from how long the battle draws out.. but usually they're fun to use, and annoying to fight. Never use a Clean Sweeper against a Staller, as the result will usually end up being the same as with the Wall.

Now we know a bit of this information.. we can start building a team. Whether you want to build your own unique team with your own unique strategy, is up to you. But this is a good solid team if you want to start.

Now here's how the starting format will look.

One Wall, One Tank, Two Clean Sweepers, Two others of any kind.

The reason for the Clean Sweepers in plenty, is because you'll need that powerful offense in your team to take care of potential threats that could be extremely irritating if left on the battlefield too long. The Tank is always good to have around for versitality, and the Wall will help you deal with your opponent's clean sweepers.

Here are a couple of very good suggestions to include in your team..

Clean Sweepers:

Aerodactyl: Aerodactyl has a high attack and speed, possessing one of the highest speeds of any non legendary with a good attack that can reach good into the 300s. You'll want to get an Aerodactyl with an Adamant nature, and Supertrain or Horde Train if you know how to Horde Train in purely attack and speed. On the Super Training meter, max out the attack and max out the speed.. don't even bother with other stats.

Gengar: Gengar's the same as Aerodactyl, only with Special attack instead of Attack. You'll want to max out the special attack and the speed. Gengar's move possibilities are wide, making him good for dealing supereffective attacks, being able to learn Fairy moves, Psychic moves, even fire type moves. You'll want to teach it Sludge Bomb and Shadow Ball as moves that are the same type as a pokemon have their power increased by 50 percent, an effect known as STAB, and you'll want to also teach it Thunderbolt, as many opponents like using either flying or water type pokemon. train Gengar right, and you'll be able to easily take care of your opponent's Greninja before he has time to take a breath.

Legendary Clean Sweeper: The legendary here must only be used if you come up against a team entirely of Ubers.. DO NOT USE OTHERWISE... the same for any other Uber mentioned in this chapter

Deoxys: Deoxys is the king of all clean sweepers, with a max attack and special attack that reaches into the 500s in his Attack form, and a speed that's insanely high in every single form except his defense form. Deoxys is extremely easy to Supertrain (or Horde train) Concentrate soley on the Special Attack and Speed, and you're golden.

Tanks

Tyrannitar: The Tank must for every team. While it's difficult to obtain, given how hard it is to find a Larvitar right now in ORAS and XY, it's well worth it, mainly because of the ability Sandstream which summons a sandstorm when Tyrannitar enters the battlefield. You see, sandstorm increases the Special defense of rock type pokemon by 50 percent, and since Tyrannitar already has a high defense and vicious attack, it turns Tyrannitar into an incredibly durable figher, being able to take hits of all kinds.

Snorlax: Probably the best tank to start with if you're having major difficulty finding a Tyrannitar. You'll want a Snorlax with Brave nature that increases attack and decreases speed, that way you can power up moves that depend on Snorlax's sluggishness and massive size like Heavy Slam. Snorlax's HP can reach 500 easy, making it a good potential staller, but it's high attack makes it more effective as a tank. You'll want to include Giga Impact in it's moveset just in case you need to KO another tank. Earthquake is also a very good solid move for any physical tank like Snorlax to learn. Earthquake is also good for Tyrannitar.

Heatran: Heatran is like a wall that was given an exceptional special attack. Moves like Magma Storm which continue to damage your opponent over time, also lets it deal with other tanks and stallers. However as a Psuedo Legendary, it will be banned in some special tournaments.. so don't rely too heavily on Heatran to be a permeanant part of your team.

Legendary Tanks:

Kyogre and Groudon: These two, have massive HP, defenses, and attack power that would make anyone shiver in their boots. Add their Primal Forms to the mix, and you have a terrifying fight changer.

Black and White Kyurem: Kyurem, in any of his forms, including his normal one, has an HP that easily reaches into the 400s, and when you take a look at the offensive power, be prepared to watch your pokemon faint.

Giratina: In both his origin and altered form, Giratina has the highest HP out of the Sinnoh legendaries, besides Arceus, making him a long laster even against supereffective attacks.

The Wall:

Ferrothorn: Ferrethorn is by far, the wall that's used most commonly by those who know what they're doing. Firstly, unlike many walls, Ferrethorn is powerful in both defense AND special defense rather then just one like Forretress. That makes it an extremely versatile wall. Also the ability Iron Barbs that dammages your opponent whenever they make physical dammage, discourages attacks, making it likely that Ferrethorn will last longer on the field. You'll want to teach it status moves like Toxic, or Thunderwave, as the ability to last long will give it ample oppertunity to inflict some good statuses. However, if you come up against any fire types, switch out immediately, no matter how good your defenses are, as a double weakness will pretty much screw you over.

Legendary Wall:

Diancie: Diancie is actually about the same as Ferrethorn where defense stats are concerned, only with a higher offense and powerful moves like Diamond Storm, making it a very odd pokemon where walls are concerned, due to the fact that offensive walls are not something you'll usually see.

Now that we've discussed which pokemon are probably good for a starting team, we can build a starting lineup.. here's a few good examples to get you started.

1. Tyrannitar, Gyarados, Aerodactyl, Gengar, Blastoise, Ferrothorn

2. Snorlax, Tyrannitar, Gengar, Weavile, Ferrothorn, Volcarona.

3. Snorlax, Aerodactyl, Aggron, Garchomp, Ferrothorn, Gengar.

Mega Evolutions:

Thanks to the extroardinary amount of Uber Legend using people out there, it's always good to have a Mega Evolution handy. You'll want to only have one pokemon in your party hold that Mega Stone though, as your non mega evolving pokemon will probably need another good item to keep it going on the battlefield. So far the safest Mega Evolution to run is Mega Tyrannitar, whose mega evolution makes him an even bigger tank then Groudon, recieving a boost in all stats. However, if you like risks, try Mega Aerodactyl, whose currently along with Mega Alakazam, one of the fastest Mega Evolutions of all, with a base speed of 150, and with the tough claws ability that increases the power of physical contact attacks by 30 percent, you'll be even clean sweeping other megas. Mega Aerodactyl is also an extremely good counter against the now well feared Mega Beedrill.
