Chapter 12: The Marine Badge

"Yes, Beaquat was my first Pokemon. I met her as a kid when on vacation with my family," Marius said with a smile."Alright, Jennifer, so who will face my Beaquat?" He asked, getting serious.

Jenifer took out her pokedex and scanned her tough-looking opponent.

"Beaquat, The Aquatic Bearded Dragon Pokemon. Water and dark type. Beaquat often swims in groups, and the youngest often fight the strongest of the group for leadership. When the group is in danger, or the territory is evaded, the leader of the group will use all its strength to defend it, family, and friends. Beaquat is the evolved form of Bealing, a pure Water type until it evolves."

"That right, my Bealing evolved in my last battle yesterday. That boy was good, but his attitude was terrible," Marius commented.

"Starla! I choose you!" Jennifer said, throwing a Pokeball with a smile. Starla materialized, landed on the platform, and glanced at Beaquat."Starla that Marius' strongest Pokemon."

"Meowth!" Starla cried out, eyes filled with fire as she glared at Beaquat.

"That's right, Starla, we can do this! Let's start Lunar Glow!"

Starla let out a cry as she summoned pink energy around her as the area started to glow a bright pink, almost as if it was like a on sunny day. "Now that is out of the way, let's start this off with. Disarming Voice!"

"Beaquat! Dive and Bite!" Marius commanded.

The aquatic Bearded Dragon swam into the water with haste as a powerful wave came from Starla's mouth, as she let out a loud cry.

"Wow! Look at the combination! It's perfect for a Fairy type," Blossom said, admiring the bright pink light combined with the Disarming voice.

"Yeah, too bad Beaquat already swam away," Ash commented as the aquatic Beard Dragon emerged beside Starla catching her in a power grip of its jaw.

"Starla, no!" Jennifer shouted.

"Come on, Jenny! I know you can win thi!" Roy cheered."Don't give up until the end!"

Jennifer's eyes widen at the familiar voice belonging to Roy. She shook her head and gained her focus."You heard him, girl. We aren't giving up! Losen your body slightly," She commanded.

"Now, why would you do that?" Marius asked curiously as Beaquat continued to crush Starla.

"Meow!" Starla cried out, wondering what Jennifer was planning now.

"Now use Iron Tail to lose the grip. Then Moonlight!" Jennifer called out.

Starla-tailed glowed white as she smacked Beaquat's mouth opening, freeing herself, and then she used Moonlight as a bright light shined down on her, regaining her health.

"That was a clever move, but what now?" Marius asked his challenger. Jennifer had a determined grin on her face.

"Alright! Swift with a combined Disarming Voice!" Jennifer called out.

Soon a barge of golden stars was heading straight toward Beaquat as a wave of Disarming Voice added to them, boosting up the speed and power.

"Alright, let's finish this battle once and for all!" Marius screamed."Now Beaquat Dragon Pluse!"

"Quat!" Beaquat cried out loudly as it released a powerful dark purple blast from its and collided with the incoming swift and Disarming voice. The collision created a gruesome explosion sending both Pokemon crashing back as dust filled the gym.

The dust cleared away after some time, revealing that both pokemon were on the ground. Starla cried out as she attempted to stand on up, shaking slightly.

"Beaquat is unable to battle, which means the winner Jennifer from Dusk Town!" The referee called out as he pointed at Starla, panting as she stood up.

"Starla, you did it amazing, girl!" Jennifer said, picking up Starla and hugging her.

"Meow," Starla cried out, looking up at Jennifer.

"Return and get some rest, you Starla," Jennifer said, returning Starla to her Pokeball.

"That was an excellent power, Jennifer. You earned this Marine badge," Marius said, walking over towards Jennifer and heading to her blue and white round badge.

"Yes, I got the Marine Badge!" Jennifer smiled, holding up the badge.

"That was amazing, Jenny," Roy said, running over and hugging his best friend.

"Thanks, though. I didn't know you were here," Jennifer said.

"I was finishing up shopping, but then I saw you, so I decided to come to watch," Roy replied, ending the hug.

"You were perfect," Blossom said softly.

"Thanks," Jennifer said, smiling at Blossom.

"Ah, are you both my next challenger?" Marius asked.

"Oh no, my goal is to become a Pokemon Professor like my mother," Roy said.

"What about you?" Marius asked, looking at Blossom.

"I-I here to battle," Blossom said nervously.

"Alright then, just give me a moment, and we can battle," He replied."You know my older brother, Siebold of the Elite Four in Kalos, would have a good time battling you, Jenny," He said, smiling at Jennifer.

"Good luck. Come on, Diamond, don't you need to register for the contest?" Jennifer said.

"Right, I still have to do that. Let's go, Jen!" Diamond said, heading to the Pokemon egg to Jennifer.

"I will come with you both since my shopping is done," Roy said.

"Sounds good," Jennifer said.

"Yeah, now come on!" Diamond shouted, running off towards the door.

"Now look who a hurry," Jennifer commented, putting her have in her badge case.

"Your one to talk," Diamond laughed.

The trio then ran out of the gym room and almost crashed into the boy Jennifer had met earlier.

"Ah, it's you, the boy who treated Starfire," Jennifer said.

"Yeah, you found the gym. I see the name Oswald," He introduced.

"I'm Jennifer."

"Diamond."

"Roy."

"Nic to meet you three. Well, I will move out of your way so you can go," Oswald said, letting the trio through.

"Thank you," Diamond said, walking past him and out the door.

~~~~
Jennifer, Roy, and Diamond, we're now at the Pokemon contest hall so that Diamond can register for the Pokemon Contest.
They walked over to the desk where a woman with a peach skin tone and short light green hair tied back in a ponytail, and orange eyes was standing.
"I would like to register for the Pokemon Contest," Diamond said.
"I would too, please," Jennifer said, deciding that it couldn't hurt to give it a go at least once for her mother.
Roy looked at Jennifer with a smile knowing she was doing this for her mom.
"Of course, I will just need to see both of your Contst passes," The woman said.
"We don't have any yet," Diamond said.
"Ah, so then this will be your first Pokemon Contest," She smiled."I will just need you to put Pokedex in one of the slots, please."
"Okay," Jennifer said as she and Diamond placed their Pokedex in the slots before them.
A picture of them and information on them then pop up on the bug screen on the wall.
"Alright, your id information has been downloaded from your pokedex. You're good to go," She said as Pokedex popped out of the slot, and above them was a small card."Those two cards will serve as your contest pass and allow you to enter any contest in the Sola region."
Jenifer and Diamond took their Pokedex and looked at the card in their hands.
"Here are a few other items you will need," She said, placing a tray on the desk with a purple case and a light blue one, an envelope, and a clear round ball."A ribbon case, a ball cause, and a few seals."
"Seals; I thought Shinnoh only used them," Jennifer said, picking up the items.
"That is true, but now many of the regions use seals for the Pokemon Contest," The woman explained.
"They must have become popular that every region wanted to use them now," Roy said.
"Alright, we're good to go for tomorrow's Pokemon Contest," Jennifer said, putting the items away in her pocket and taking her egg from Roy.
They walked out of the Contest hall to see Blossom standing outside with Ash standing next to her
"Hello again; so, did you earn your badge?" Jennifer asked.
"No," Blossom said.
"I'm afraid my student here panicked and ran off before it even started," Ash stated."I believe she became interested in you and came to find you."
"Yeah, I want you to battle mean, and maybe I can fight the gum leader," Blossom said softly.
"I haven't healed my Pokemon yet, so I only have one Pokemon battle ready, so it is a one-one won, but I don't think it will help you gain confidence, but it might give you ideas," Jennifer said."let go over there," She said pointing near the field near some trees."
Blossom nodded. Soon as they reached the field, Jennifer sent out Ace.
"Squrtile!" Blossom shouted out Squrtile.
"Squritle nice, take it your starter pokemon," Jennifer commented.
"Yes."
"Alright, Ace Gust!"
"Squrtile bubble."
Ace cried out as he flapped his wings, blowing the bubbles away a be sending Squritle flying into the air.
"You should make sure to dodge as well," Jennifer said.
"Right, Squrtile, let's try this again with Water Gun!"
"Ace dodge, and then Wing Dive!"
"Croling!" Ace cried, flying into the air and diving don't and snacking into Squrtile, knocking it to the ground.
"Squrtile, you can do it. Come on, Tackle!"
"Ace once again, Gust!"
"Cro!" Ace flapped his wing and sent the incoming Squrilte crashing into a tree knocking it out.
"Squrtile return," Blossom said, returning Squrtile."I might have lost, but I battle the gym leader, and next time we meet, we battle again, and I won," She said, clutching her Pokeball.
"Blossom, you might lack confidence at first, but you do great as long as you keep determined to achieve your goal," Jennifer smiled, returning to Ace.
"She right, Blossom. You get there eventually," Ash said, placing a hand on Blossom's hand as Pikachu gave her a thumbs up."Jennifer, right?" He asked, looking at Jennifer.
"Yeah," Jennifer replied.
"Thanks for helping my pupil out, but if you don't mind me asking,g who are your parents? You remind me of someone, but it has been a while since then so it slipped my mind," Ash said, trying to recall who Jennifer looked like.
"My mom's name is Jessica. She is a Pokemon Coordinator and won the Grand Festival here five years ago before she took full-time as a Pokemon medic and teacher to inspiring Pokemon Coordinators," Jennifer replied, looking at Ash Ketchum.
"I met Pokemon coordinators in Hoenn when I was 13 to 14 and more in Shinnoh when 14 to 15, but I don't recall a Jessica," Ash said, looking at Pikachu.
"Pika, " Pikachu said, shaking his head.
"Well, she wasn't always called by her full name," Jennifer said, picking up her egg off the ground."Got to go great meeting you, Blossom, and the great Ash Ketchum!" She shouted, waving bye as she and her friend headed for the Pokemon Center.
