Prologue: A Dark Night
A wind howled loudly throughout the night forcing the trees and grass to shake furiously which also created a chilly feeling in the air; while also having a peaceful vibe in the forest where pokemon rested soundlessly. Although traveling deeper into the forest the peace would die at the sight of a three story metal and glass building.
"No! This isn't right!" Cried out a man, who had messy hair and a lab coat on. His eyes were angered and tired as if he had been up for days. He slammed his fist against the table with frustration creating a continuous echo throughout the room. The lights above the cold, metal room flickered and small quakes in the ground would form now and then.
He turned his head to a sharp looking, expressionless man, who wore a black suit, dark sunglasses and had well combed jet black hair. "Genesis! I have to stop this right now!" He pointed at a giant glass casing. "We were only to protect ourselves by keeping them in tact, not use them to create a New World Order!"
Genesis snickered and lifted his glasses a bit. "Dr. Ban... Your mind is not thinking right."
He lifted his head up and took off his glasses.
"You see... With this virus inside Arceus we are able to control all the other legendary pokemon once it spreads to them." He walked over to the glass casing and pushed a red button revealing the sleeping, majestic pokemon, Arceus. It was covered with wires and had a heart monitor, because its pulse was so strong and powerful, it was the source of the quakes and light flickering within the building.
Dr Ban clenched his teeth with sight of Arceus. "Yes, I know, but that virus was only to ensure that the legendary pokemon could be stopped by our control if they were to ever go berserk. But instead-I overhear from one of your senators that Team Eclipse is to overthrow the pokemon Champion with this power and, not only gain control in Hoenn, but to all the other regions!"
He grinded his teeth even more after reminding himself of the anger he felt that day after accidentally walking into a conversation with one of Team Eclipse elite three Senators, named Key, with some Team Eclipse members. Ban hid from them right when he entered the room silently until he realized this was a conversation his ears were forbidden to have heard.
Nonetheless, he eavesdropped only to hear the real truth of Team Eclipse's plan. While also learning that Ban was not the only person to be lied to. Most of the other scientists had no clue of this as well. They all had the same innocent, gullible mind as Dr. Ban. What made him even more upset was the fact him and the other scientist's work had been for the work of evil.
Genesis smiled softly. "I know your stubborn, doctor. And I know how you think. Obviously you do not agree with our plan and you don't understand the concepts of what we can gain to help the people of this world. That is the reason why we didn't tell you anything. I knew that you and others wouldn't get our goal."
He walked over to a wooden desk and lifted a frame. Dr. Ban, his wife and a little girl displayed in it, each with a smile on their face.
"This is your daughter, yes? Such a shame her father doesn't know what's good for the world, especially when he's a doctor." He snickered and set the frame back down to it's original place on the desk.
Dr Ban flared his nose. "I cannot allow you to go through with this-!"
"Or what Ban?! There is nothing you can do about it now! All I have to do is release Arceus to the world and make it it's mission to infect every legendary pokemon with its virus. It's already infected there is no stopping it now!"
Ban lowered his head. "No... it won't end like this. Because I won't allow you!"
From his lab coat pocket the doctor lifted a remote and clicked it.
Another casing of glass walls covered the controls and Arceus' chamber. Genesis took this by surprise and slammed to the glass walls with his fists after his realization and turned to Ban.
"What are you doing?!"
Ban lowered his head. "I realize I cannot stop the virus. But I can prevent it! As long as Arceus is in his sleeping stage he won't be going anywhere!"
He clicked another button from his remote and a bright light flashed from Arceus. When it dimmed the god pokemon was gone; transported.
Genesis slammed his sunglasses to the ground and shattered them. Then he pulled out a pokeball from his pocket.
"W-where did you take him...!?" He staggered, although still holding a threatening tone.
"Somewhere where you'll never find him." Ban explained.
Genesis lost it, he threw his pokeball and out came Houndoom. "Flame Charge!" He yelled.
In amazing speed, Houndoom ran to Ban and bursted into flames.
Just as Ban braced himself for the impact a red flash came from his pocket and a green figure sped to the Houndoom and knocked him over before he could fire his attack.
The pokemon then jumped back to Ban awaiting orders. "Scept!"
"Sceptile!" Ban smiled.
Genesis made a angry grunting sound. "Damn it! Use flamethrower!" He yelled.
The Houndoom staggered his feet up and shot a wave of fire to Sceptile.
"Quickly Sceptile, use Protect!"
Sceptile lifted his arms and a force field was created deflecting the Flamethrower completely, but Ban could still feel the heat of the flames. This went on for a moment and Sceptile could feel himself growing tired.
Ban had enough and lifted his arm and signaled Genesis for his attention. In his hand, the remote. "Genesis!" He called over the scotch of the flames. "Once I push this button the whole building will self-destruct!"
Genesis eyes widened. "Are you crazy!? After all we've researched! No... you won't do it... you'll be destroyed along with everything else!"
Ban gave a look at the frame of his family. "I've been planning this for weeks ever since I heard about your plan! If it means protecting the world from your destruction..." His finger slowly motioned toward the button.
Genesis grunted in frustration. "Houndoom!" The dog pokemon directed his gaze to his master and stopped his Flamethrower leaving Sceptile falling on his knees, exhausted.
"Return!" Genesis muttered. A red flash glowed from the Houndoom and disappeared to the pokeball in his hands. Genesis gazed up to Ban, giving him a fustrurated look. Then ran to the metal door that exits the room he pushed a code and it opened. Before he stepped outside he turned his head slightly, not too much to be directing to Ban.
"This won't be the end. You know it. Team Eclipse will live again."
"Not without this research." Ban said calmly.
Genesis hesitated, as if he was about to say something else, but he just slammed a red button on the side of the door. The button triggered the emergency evacuation which included red sirens and alarms throughout the building, alerting everyone to leave. Then Genesis ran out.
Ban quickly ran to his desk took out a metal brief case and quickly began stuffing things inside it. Things like papers, some empty pokeballs, a envelope and an incubated egg; Ban intended to make the egg have much more time before hatching. He then grabbed the case and brought it to a transportation chamber then sent it away.
"Scept?" Sceptile stepped beside him after a short rest and raised his head over Ban.
Ban gave him a soft smile and turned away from his hoarding for a moment.
"Sceptile, you know these people are bad so it is my duty to destroy everything they are trying to accomplish. But that also means I won't be around anymore."
Sceptile's eyes widened, but softened instantly. His eyes were filled with understanding -and almost, tears. Ban's throat tightened, yet managed to smile.
"After all these years together... Ever since I got you as a Treeko... They have been fun and I will always hold those memories in my heart. But... it's time to go to your pokeball, you'll be safe in there."
He took the pokeball from his lab coat and directed it to Sceptile, but in a instant, Sceptile slammed his tail towards the pokeball and knocked against the wall shattering it. This action took Ban by surprise and he look back at Sceptile only to find compassion is the pocket monster's eyes. Sceptile stepped foward and wrapped his body around Ban as if he was getting comfortable to go to bed.
Ban was almost in tears. "Sceptile..." But he wiped them away. Together until the end. Before Ban was about to push the button for the self destruct sequence he took a look at the frame of his family and glanced at his daughter. Leontine. Be safe. I'm sure you'll grow up to do great things. I love you.
