Grace & Devon
Grace's parents hate pokemon and the laissez faire attitude they associate with pokemon trainers. However, Grace has always had a huge desire to go on her own adventure and travel the world. When she is 17 she "runs away" from home with her first pokemon Eevee. Eevee hatched from an egg at the pokemon daycare she worked at secretly for a month before leaving Sinnoh. With her partner Eevee in her arms, she gathered her things and went to Kanto to catch a Vulpix. There she meets Devon, who is instantly attracted to Grace, and he asks if she would travel with him. She plans to go to Alola and Devon agrees to go with her.
Grace's Pokemon Team:
Jolteon – As Grace and Devon travel around Alola together Eevee and Devon's Shinx become super close. Eevee is constantly nuzzling up to Shinx to feel electric shocks which makes Grace happy because she was hoping to evolve Eevee into a Jolteon. She searches fruitlessly for a thunder stone until they go to Akala Island and find a stone store where she can buy one. Eevee, who was already overpowered from a hatchling, quickly becomes the ace of Grace's battling team. Eevee had always been possessive of Grace, trying to steal her attention more and more as she caught her dream team, but after evolving into Jolteon, he acts as a big brother to all of Grace's pokemon, even though he was the smallest of the evolved forms of her team. He learns electric, bug, and ground type moves.
Blaise – After leaving Sinnoh with all of her savings and belongings in her backpack, Grace heads to the Kanto region to catch a Vulpix. A day before reaching the breeding grounds of the Vulpix/Ninetales Devon and Grace talk about their dreams and Devon convinces Grace to travel with him and go visit his home before they leave for Alola. When Grace sees the Vulpix the next day she notices one of the Vulpix sitting by itself on the edge of the meadow and she asks it to battle with her and Eevee. Another Vulpix got jealous and starts bullying the shy one which makes Grace very angry and Eevee beats the other Vulpix in a battle. Grace then tells the shy Vulpix that she won't force it to battle, but if she wanted to come with Grace that would make her happy. Vulpix chooses to accept Grace as her trainer without a battle and travels with her to Alola. Because Grace knew she wanted to have an Alolan Vulpix as well, she named her first Vulpix Blaise. Blaise goes on to learn incredibly powerful dark, ghost, and grass type moves as well as her fire type, making her one of Grace's most well-rounded pokemon, especially since her ability when evolved was Drought which boosted her fire moves and sped up her Solar Beam. She also became much more assertive and confident after evolving. (She develops feelings for Lucario later on)
Yuki – Grace had planned for years her dream pokemon team, so after catching Blaise, she knew she wanted to get her alolan Vulpix that she would name Yuki. She and Devon went to Ula Ula Island first and were told that if they wanted to go to the area where Alolan Vulpix were most often seen they would have to go through the island challenge. Grace was disappointed because she was excited to travel around Alola with both types of Vulpix. But as she and Devon were going to the ferry to go to Melemele Island an alolan Vulpix burst out of the trees being chased by a pack of Phantump. Grace instantly gave chase, outpacing both Eevee and Blaise before scooping up the vulpix and running for all she was worth. Devon followed of course, bringing out his Charizard just as Grace, who was looking behind her at the Phantump, basically jumped off of a cliff. Charizard was able to catch her and glide down to the beach below while the Phantump went off, getting scared by Charizard's presence. After making sure the vulpix was okay, Grace had Blaise battle it and was able to catch her Yuki. Yuki was incredibly playful, constantly getting on Rockruff's nerves after Grace caught him, but after evolving became much more subdued and acted very shy around the newly evolved Dusk Lycanroc. They eventually become a poke-couple. Yuki learns Ice, Fairy, and Psychic Type moves.
Plot point: Tapu Bulu gave Z stones to both Devon and Grace for saving the vulpix from the upset Phantump. These were turned into Z rings by Kahuna Hala on Melemele Island
Primarina – After traveling to Melemele Island to start the island challenge, Grace immediately sets out to find Kahuna Hala who was in charge of caring for and raising the starter pokemon of the islands. After seeing her Z-stone and hearing her story of her dream to travel the world with her pokemon she begs him to allow her to train a Popplio. He agrees, taking her to the hidden cave where all of the Popplio who will become starter pokemon are kept and bred. Popplio is energetic and silly and is always trying to catch Grace off guard by hitting her with a weak water gun attack. They have a wonderful relationship but Popplio is very slow to evolve, not reaching her final evolution until almost a year of traveling with Grace. Popplio/Brionne on their Alola journey learns mainly water moves with some fairy and normal type moves.
Lycanroc – After traveling all over Melemele and beating Kahuna Hala at a battle, Grace and Devon were allowed to catch pokemon on the Ten Carat Hill. It took several days but Grace finally found a Rockruff that had the personality that called to her, which turned out to be a little standoff-ish. The Rockruff she wanted was stronger than the average Rockruff and Devon thought that it might be one who had run away from a previous trainer, as Rockruff were known to do. Grace had to battle Rockruff three times, leveling up Popplio until she learned Aqua Jet. With the edge of Aqua Jet, Grace was finally able to capture the prideful pokemon. Grace adored her gruff Rockruff and he tried to resist Grace's love, especially with Yuki teasing him so much. However, when Grace and Devon got into an argument, ending with Grace storming off by herself, Rockruff found her just as she accidentally stumbled into an angry Granbull. In a flash of extreme loyalty, Rockruff rushes out and stands on top of Grace's back where she had fallen to the ground and took the angry Granbull's attack for her. As he struggled to hold up the Granbull's paw, Rockruff evolves just as the sun is beginning to set and evolves into the Dusk form of Lycanroc, learning Iron Head at the same time. With this move he is able to quickly defeat the Fairy type. Lycanroc still acts prickly to anyone but Grace, but when Yuki evolved into a Ninetales he found that he missed her teasing and becomes very protective of her as well. Lycanroc learns Rock, Steel, and Dark moves.
Lucario – Riolu was the last pokemon that Grace caught. Grace spent three weeks traveling on Akala Island searching for the perfect Riolu, which made Devon think of leaving her behind more than once. But it was worth the wait because Grace found a mature, focused Riolu who rounded out her pokemon team with both personality and moves perfectly. Grace was lucky enough to find both a keystone and a Lucarionite when they took an impromptu trip to the Kalos region for a wedding that Devon was invited to and he begged Grace to go with him as his "date" so he wouldn't feel out of place. Mega Lucario was instrumental in helping Grace and her team pass the final Kahuna and earn a spot in the Alolan Pokemon League competition. Lucario and Blaise were always very close from the beginning and when they both evolved they were a very elegant and stately couple. Lucario learns Fighting, Dragon, Steel, and Poison type moves.
Devon - 18 years old, has been on his journey since he was 10. Originally from Kanto, his dad is an inventor who creates storage containers for pokemon trainers that work like pokeballs; his mom is a berry farmer in Kanto. Devon's dream is to beat all of the pokemon leagues in every region. He is known as a player, lots of girls fall in love with him, but he fell hard for Grace, who barely gives him the time of day. He has traveled to the Kanto, Orange Islands, Johto, Hoenn, Unova, and Sinnoh regions. He suggests that he and Grace go to Alola together since they have created a pokemon league there recently and she accepts his invitation.
Luxray - After getting second place in the Sinnoh League, Devon was feeling frustrated with himself for always being just short of reaching his goal. To try and reset himself, he sent all of his pokemon back to Professor Oak and began his journey back to Sinnoh alone while he self-reflected. While he was traveling back to the airport, he stumbled across a young Shinx. The Shinx was alone and frightened and Devon cared for it, feeding it and trying to find its family/trainer. After several days of searching, there was still no one in sight and Devon told the Shinx he had to be going. Shinx followed Devon though and Devon happily took him with him, capturing the Shinx without battling. Shinx's first battle was with Grace's Eevee, she had asked Devon for a practice battle and Eevee, who had a ridiculously powerful Echoed Voice move he had learned when he hatched, beat Shinx quickly. However, these two pokemon became good friends and as they traveled through Alola, Shinx leveled up and evolved very quickly, getting stronger and stronger throughout their journey.
Charizard – Charizard was Devon's very first starter pokemon when he began his pokemon journey back in Kanto when he turned 10. After Grace defeated Devon's new Shinx with her Eevee she was going to leave for her journey on her own, but Devon said that his house was close to where the Vulpix breeding grounds were and he asked if they could travel together. She agreed and on their travels, she found out that Devon had a Charizard which got her super excited. She admitted that she had been torn between getting a Charizard or a Vulpix for years as her Fire Type pokemon, and Devon used this to convince her to go with him to his home to meet his Charizard. Devon's Charizard was the only pokemon he had brought on all of his journeys across the different regions and they were incredibly close. Devon brought Charizard with him along to Alola and, while visiting Kalos for his friend's wedding, he was gifted a keystone by one of his rivals and he purchased a Charizard Y stone so that when they returned to Alola he could finally mega evolve his Charizard.
Alolan Muk – The first Alolan pokemon that Devon caught was an Alolan Grimer. Devon had not had much luck with training poison types in the past and he was impressed at the Alolan Grimer's defense and stamina. After Grace caught her Popplio they began traveling around Melemele island and as they stumbled across a couple of Team Skull thugs trying to catch a Grimer, but the Grimer was beating both of their pokemon with hardly any effort. Devon stepped in and chased off the grunts but then battled the Grimer himself. Grimer defeated Shinx without too much difficulty, but when Devon brought out Charizard, Grimer was quickly beaten and caught. Grimer idolized Charizard and worked hard so that he evolved into a Muk soon after they reached Akala island.
Lycanroc – Since Grace was being so picky in choosing her Rockruff when she and Devon were visiting Ten Carat Hill, he decided that he would catch one of his own. His Rockruff despised Grace's and they had an instant rivalry between them. When Grace's Rockruff evolved before him, Rockruff became obsessed with training. Soon after, during a nighttime battle against some Teak Skull thugs, Rockruff evolves into Midnight Lycanroc. His rivalry with Grace's Dusk Lycanroc never ceased, but as time went by the two began to develop a strange respect for each other, and during a large battle against the evil organization these two stood back to back, protecting each other as they rained down powerful attacks against their enemies.
Noivern – Devon was extremely happy when after their battle against the first totem pokemon he found a Noibat living in Verdant Cave. He loved dragon types and he was excited to train a Noibat for himself. To his chagrin though, Noibat became almost unhealthily attached to Grace. She found his attitude adorable so she welcomed him whenever he cuddled up against her cheek while sitting on her shoulder. It wasn't until Devon had taken Noibat forcefully to do some one on one training when he was attacked by some very vengeful Team Skull thugs for making fools of them several times that Noibat began to feel some loyalty to Devon. He evolved into Noivern and fought of the Team Skull pokemon and saved Devon from a beating. After that, Noivern still followed Grace around like a puppy, but he listened to every command that Devon gave and became one of his team's ace's as he got stronger.
Mantine – To Grace's and Devon's surprise both, Devon turned out to be a natural at Mantine surfing. He loved it so much that he caught himself a Mantyke and trained it up so that he could join the annual Mantine surfing competition. Even though he was naturally talented he only made it to the semi-finals before getting beaten, but his Mantine and he formed a deep bond of trust and Mantine became a great asset to his team.
