After close to fifteen minutes Ash, Serena, and Isla arrived at the gym, all panting heavily. Ash took a knee and lowered Serena off his back. One thing that Isla neglected to mention was that the only way they would make it in time was to sprint. Serena sadly wasn't able to keep up. She told Ash to keep going and that she would catch up, but he wasn't going to leave her behind. He told her to climb onto his back, and he carried her the rest of the way, and was still able to keep up with Isla.
"I still...can't believe.....you were able.....to keep up," Isla said as she tried to catch her breath.
"Same here. I told you to leave me, I would have caught up," Serena added.
"No way.....I'll never leave you behind.......besides, that was a great workout.....after being stuck......on that plane all day......it felt great to stretch my legs," Ash replied.
"Well if you two are done, let's get inside. The gym will be closing soon and my dad is pretty strict on opening and closing time," said Isla.
The gym was large, and looked like a medieval castle, with a set of double doors in the middle of the front. Isla walked up to the double doors and pushed them open. The inside wasn't very decorated, in fact it was just plain stone. The only decorations being the symbols of every Pokémon type along the walls, and on the wall on the gym leaders side of the battlefield was a golden symbol Ash had seen before, but was struggling to remember from where.
Inside there were multiple Pokémon all over the place cleaning up. There were a multitude of Pokémon sweeping, and behind them there were water types using water gun on the ground and then moping. On the gym leaders side, there was a Dragonite carrying a box, as well as a muscular, middle aged man, wearing jeans and a red tee shirt also carrying a box.
"DADDY, IM BACK!" Isla yelled.
The man stopped in his tracks and looked over to the group. He then put the box down and started walking over.
"Isla where have you been? You were just supposed to pick up your Pokédex and then come back. Dragonite had to finish helping me pack," Isla's father said as he continued to walk over.
"I know I'm sorry, but there was trouble at Professor Pine's lab. Some crooks were trying to steal the new Pokédex," Isla explained.
"Ok fine. Atleast your late for a good reason," Her father replied as he arrived at them.
"And I brought you your final challenger," Isla said gesturing to Ash.
"Isla," her father groaned.
"I know your about to close up, but he's only late because he was helping deal with the crooks too," Isla informed him.
He sighed, "fine, since he was late for a noble cause I'll accept his challenge," he said conceding. He then looked at Ash, "congratulations young man you get to be my last challenger as the Madrid City Gym leader. My name is William, what's your name?"
"I'm Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town in the Kanto region," Ash introduced.
Williams eyes were wide in shock.
"Ketchum? Ash Ketchum? Delia's son?" He asked.
"Um, yes?" Ash replied confused.
William quickly charged Ash and brought him into a bear hug as he picked Ash up off the ground and laughed. Everyone looked on confused, as Ash gave a painful look as he was having trouble breathing, as the hug was almost as tight as his mother's.
"Hahaha, I can't believe it's you Ash. Let me take a look at you," William said as He then put Ash down and stepped back and looked at him.
"Wow, look at you. The last time I saw you you couldn't even crawl, but look at you now. You look so much like your father, except for your eyes, you clearly have your mother's kindness," said William.
"Wait you knew my parents!?" Ash asked in shock.
"Oh yes. We were the best of friends back in the day when we all used to travel together," said William, who had a sad look after he said that.
"Wait my mom was a trainer!?" Ash asked.
"Oh yes, she was a great trainer, and a strong battler," William replied, then he noticed the shocked expression on Ash's face, and sighed. "Your mother never told you did she?"
Ash just shook his head.
"Well I can't say I'm surprised. She changed a lot after your father died. She loved your father so much that the memories would bring her to her knees as she cried. I knew her for almost a decade before that, and nothing ever seemed to hit her so had that she couldn't function, not even when her parents died. But after your father died she pushed everything and everyone away, she didn't want all the reminders. I guess she wanted to keep herself together so she could raise you," William explained.
"You think you could tell me about them? Before I was born?" Ash asked a little timidly.
William smiled. "Sure thing. You and your girlfriend can join my family for dinner tonight. But first..," a big grin formed on Williams face, "we have a gym battle to get to."
An excited smile formed on Ash's face upon the reminder of the battle. "Sounds great."
William smiled upon hearing Ash's excitement, as it reminded him of Red and Delia before a battle.
"Alright then, let's do this! Isla you be the referee, and text your mother and tell her we're having two guests for dinner," William said as he walked to his side of the field.
"Dad mom said that's rude to spring this on her last minute," Isla said after she got her mother's response, as William was taking his place in his trainers box.
"Just tell her I'm sorry and that I'll explain later. Now let's focus, I need to see how Ash stacks up compared to his parents," William replied.
Serena gave Ash a good luck kiss, then he headed to his side of the battlefield. Ash stood with Pikachu on his shoulder in the challengers trainers box, excitedly waiting for his first gym battle since Kalos. He looked over and saw Serena and her Pokémon standing along the side of the battlefield behind a wall meant to protect spectators. He could see her smile as she was eagerly awaiting the battle to start. Her smile was all he needed right now, as that smile gave him strength to make her proud of him, to show her that he has improved and gotten stronger.
Ash looked over at his opponent, and many of his Pokémon standing behind him, still out of their pokeballs from the cleaning they were helping with earlier. He looked at them all and saw what he learned, atleast about the Madrid City Gym was true, it was a multi type gym. Right behind William stood fire, water, bug, dark, steel, dragon, flying, and ground type Pokémon.
————————————————————————
"This will be a three versus three battle with no time limit, between the challenger Ash Ketchum, and the Madrid City gym leader William. Only the challenger will be allowed to substitute Pokémon, and the battle will be decided when all of one trainers Pokémon are unable to battle. Both trainers send out your first Pokémon."
"Considering this is my gym I'll go first. Scizor your up," William called out.
The pincer Pokémon flew up from the crowd of the gym leaders Pokémon and onto the battle field.
Upon seeing the first Pokémon Ash started to weigh his options. He had four Pokémon with him, and of them Pidgeot and Fearow were the best choices as they were resistant to bug type moves. Then Ash took into consideration the fact that it would be a good way to welcome Pidgeot back by using her in a gym battle, not to mention a certain move Pidgeot had that nobody would see coming. Then he also remembered the fact that he was still having some difficulty's with Fearow listening to him, so a gym battle might not be the best choice this soon.
"Pidgeot I choose you," Ash said as he threw her pokeball.
Pidgeot emerged from her pokeball with a loud battle cry as she flew in place in front of Ash. William examined Pidgeot and nodded in approval.
"That a pretty big Pidgeot you have there Ash. She looks strong and well trained," William complemented.
Ash merely smiled and nodded from the complement.
"Both trainers ready?" Asked Isla.
Ash and William both nodded.
"Battle begin!"
"Scizor use agility to mask your location, then attack with metal claw."
Scizor begins circling Pidgeot at great speed, making it look as if there are multiple Scizor as one of his claws was glowing white.
"Pidgeot use sand attack to hid your position then use aerial ace."
Pidgeot began flapping her wings sending large amounts of dust into the air, hiding her location. No one could see anything in the sand, as Pidgeot flew out of the sand cloud, then flew right back in as her body became surrounded by white streaks.
In seconds Scizor came flying backwards out of the dust cloud, being knocked backwards by Pidgeot. He flapped his wings as he also used his feet to try and slow himself and keep upright.
Meanwhile Pidgeot also burst out of the dust cloud backwards from being hit by Scizor's metal claw. She was launched up into the air, as she began to fall and it looked as if she was going to crash into the ground. She readjusted her wings, regaining control flying inches off the ground, and swooped up before flying in place in front of Ash.
The dust cloud settled and both Pokémon were ready to go again.
"Scizor use bullet punch with both claws."
"Pidgeot fly up to dodge, then block with steal wing."
Scizor's claw glowed light blue as he quickly charged in. Pidgeot quickly flew up into the air, as Scizor punched the spot where Pidgeot once was. Scizor looked up, locking his eyes on Pidgeot, and took off at an angle to attack from below.
"Pidgeot beneath you!"
Pidgeot glances down to see Scizor closing in. Her wings glow white, she swings down with one, knocking away the first bullet punch. Then she swings her other wing down, hitting Scizor in the head knocking him back. Scizor was able to maintain his flight, shook his head and went back after Pidgeot.
"Scizor close the distance with agility and then use bullet punch again."
Scizor then disappeared from sight to everyone, except Ash. Upon hearing Williams plan and seeing Scizor disappear Ash's eyes started glowing blue. This allowed him to see Scizor moving, as if in slow motion, and could tell exactly where he was going to attack from.
"Pidgeot use heat wave above you!"
Pidgeot flipped over as her wings started glowing red as she began flapping. Just as an orange wind started shoot forward Scizor appeared to attack Pidgeot at point blank range, but was instead hit by the unexpected fire type attack.
Scizor cried out in pain as he was burned from the very effective attack and crashed into the ground creating a dust cloud. Despite no one else being able to see Scizor Ash could, and could tell Scizor wasn't out of the fight just yet.
"Pidgeot finish this with brave bird."
Pidgeot became engulfed in light blue energy and dove down towards Scizor. As this happened Pidgeot's eyes began to glow blue as well, and she could see Scizor clearly through the dust, as Ash saw through her eyes. Pidgeot slammed into Scizor, knocking him out of the dust cloud and landing in front of William with swirly eyes.
"Ahhh, Scizor is unable to battle," Isla announced, recovering from the surprise of Ash knowing where Scizor was going to be.
Everyone was surprised by this, but Isla and William were only because they didn't see Ash could do it sooner. William recomposed himself looked over at Ash with an excited grin.
"Well this battle just became more interesting, this will be fun," William thought to himself.
William returned Scizor and thanked him.
"Bisharp, your up," he yelled back to his Pokémon, as his eyes glowed blue.
"Ok Bisharp, we're going to test Ash's powers and see how developed they are. I don't think he will use it unless he thinks he needs it, so let's try and make him need it," William explained to Bisharp through his aura.
"Understood," Bisharp replied as he walked onto the field.
"Pidgeot return. You did great, now take a good rest," Ash said as he returned his loyal flying type. He then reattached the pokeball and looked down at Pikachu, who was standing on the ground beside him. "Alright buddy, you ready to battle?"
"PIKA," Pikachu replies excitedly as he sparked his cheeks.
"Alright, Pikachu I choose you!"
Pikachu ran onto the field, ready to battle. At the same time Sylveon let out a happy cry that her mate was on the field, resulting in Pikachu blushing a little.
"Battle resume."
"Bisharp stone edge."
Bisharp slams one of his hands into the ground. Suddenly tall blue rock pillars started shooting up out of the ground, but they weren't going towards Pikachu. The pillars started forming behind Bisharp and quickly made their way around half of the battlefield, effectively cutting off any view of the Pokémon by the trainers.
"Now to see if that was a fluke or not," William thought to himself as his eyes glowed blue and he began to see through Bisharp's eyes.
"Pikachu are you alright in there?" Asked Ash
"Pika," Pikachu replied.
Ash wasn't sure how, but he once again understood what his Pokémon were saying, and knew Pikachu was fine, for now.
"Bisharp metal claw."
Bisharp's hands began to glow white as he charged at Pikachu.
"Pikachu dodge then thunderbolt," Ash yelled, still not knowing exactly what was going on in there.
Pikachu took off running just as Bisharp swung his first metal claw, hitting one of the stone pillars behind Pikachu, leaving claw marks in the stone.
"Bisharp metal sound then metal claw again."
Bisharp rubbed his arms together, creating an unbearable sound. Pikachu fired the thunderbolt, but the noise was too much, causing Pikachu to lose focus and miss as he covered his ears. By the time Pikachu recovered he saw the metal claw coming right at him. Pikachu cried out in pain as the attack connected and he was sent flying, and slammed into one of the stone pillars.
"Pikachu!" Ash cries as he heard the cry.
In that moment Ash's eyes glowed blue again. He felt weird, almost like when he and Greninja used the bond phenomenon. Ash could see both in front of him and darkness at the same time. Then he saw a horizontal sliver of light, and it was getting bigger. Soon Ash realized he was seeing through Pikachu's eyes, as he saw he was looking at Bisharp walking towards him with another metal claw ready.
"Pikachu thunderbolt!" Ash inadvertently yelled through his aura.
Pikachu heard Ash's voice in his head, but didn't have time to think about it. Pikachu's whole body sparked with electricity as he fired the attack, which connected knocking Bisharp back into the pillar his metal claw cut into earlier. Ash now could see the claw mark, and came up with an idea.
"I need to get Pikachu out of there, I just hope this works," Ash thought to himself
"Pikachu volt tackle!"
Pikachu starts running towards Bisharp as his body becomes engulfed with yellow electricity, and unbeknownst to Ash and Pikachu several streaks of blue are mixed in. Williams eyes widen as he sees this through Bisharp's eyes.
"Bisharp dodge it!" William yells.
Bisharp try's to move, but can't as electricity appears on his body and he can't move, revealing he's paralyzed.
Pikachu slams into Bisharp creating a large explosion, and creating a clear crack in the pillar going all around starting where Pikachu hit Bisharp. Then from there the pillar started to crumble, but a view inside was still not possible due to a dust cloud created by the attack and the pillar falling. Ash and Pikachu though could see right through the dust as both of their eyes glowed blue, and could see Bisharp wasn't out yet.
"Pikachu, finish him. 10,000,000 volt thunderbolt!"
William heard this but could tell there was nothing he could do as Bisharp was still paralyzed. Ash and Pikachu began striking their synchronized poses, as dark storm clouds formed overhead. Pikachu jumped up into the air and absorbed the electricity from the clouds, then fires seven bolts of electricity, each a different color of the rainbow. The result of the attack was a massive explosion with a blinding light.
The force completely destroyed all of the stone pillars within the battlefield. Isla realizing the force soon enough, jumped behind the wall for cover. Serena saw Isla jump the wall and decided to trust her judgment, and ducked down behind the wall also along with her Pokémon. Ash adjusted his footing, leaned forward to keep from being knocked back, and put his arm in front of his face to protect himself from flying debris. William and his Pokémon did the same, as even the double doors to the gym were blown open.
After the blast calmed down there was a dust cloud engulfing most of the gym. Williams flying types started flapping their wings, blowing the dust out of the gym threw the double doors. With the dust gone everyone was able to confirm what they already knew.
Cough cough, "Bisharp is unable to battle," Isla managed to get out through coughing from the dust.
William pulled out a pokeball and returned Bisharp, "you did great, thank you and rest now." William looked over to Ash with a smile on his face. "Congratulations Ash, you are definitely your parents son and exactly what I would expect from a Ketchum."
"Thanks," Ash replies with a toothy grin.
"However this battle isn't over yet, I still have one more Pokémon left. And seeing as you proved yourself to be worthy of the name Ketchum, the only way I can show honor to you is to send out my first, and most powerful Pokémon. Dragonite come say hello," said William.
From the back of the group of Pokémon rose a Dragonite, bigger than any other Ash had ever seen before, standing atleast fifteen feet tall. She flew up and over the other Pokémon and landed as she took a battle stance, then she gave a happy greeting to Ash before before her expression changed, showing she was ready for a battle.
Ash's eyes were wide from seeing the large Dragonite, then a smirk formed on his face and his eyes gave a determined stare. William saw this and chuckled.
"So much like his mother," William thought to himself.
Ash looked over at Pikachu, he was breathing heavily, but could still had plenty of strength to battle. However Ash could tell it wouldn't be enough, no one Pokémon he had with him would be enough.
"Hey Pikachu, return and catch your breath," Ash said.
"Chu," Pikachu replies in a disappointed tone, but still ran back to Ash's side.
"Don't worry buddy, you'll get your chance. That Pokémon is way to strong for you or any of the others to handle on there own," Ash replied as he pulled his next pokeball from his belt. "Pidgeot I choose you!"
Pidgeot emerged from her pokeball giving a battle cry as she flew up into the air.
"Battle resume."
"Dragonite thunder punch."
"Pidgeot use agility to dodge then use hurricane."
Dragonite's right arm started sparking with electricity as she took flight and took off towards Pidgeot, much faster than one would think possible for a Pokémon that big. Pidgeot managed to dodge the attack, leaving Dragonite punching the empty air where Pidgeot once was, as she spun around to attack Pidgeot again. However Pidgeot's wings were already glowing light blue as she flapped her wings, sending a powerful wind to Dragonite that soon began form into a tornado around her.
"Dragonite take a knee," William said calmly.
Dragonite listened and landed, going down to one knee and looking down. The tornado completely formed, hiding Dragonite from view. The tornado raged on as Pidgeot continued to flap her wings, and Dragonite remained inside. Ash wasn't sure what their plan was yet, but as long as it wasn't moving he needed deal as much damage as possible.
"Pidgeot add air slash."
As Pidgeot continued to flap its wings, several light blue disks resembling saw blades fired from her wings towards the base of the tornado.
"Dragonite dragon rush."
A second later Dragonite shot out of the tornado engulfed in a dragon shaped energy, taking the hits from the air slash without flinching, then slamming into Pidgeot at full force. There was an explosion resulting from the collision, sending Pidgeot crashing into the ground. Pidgeot hit the ground hard and was in a lot of pain, but wasn't knocked out, and still wanted to battle.
"Your Pidgeot has a strong spirt, but that won't be enough to win here. Twister," William said calmly.
Dragonite began flapping her wings, creating a tornado, and sent it towards Pidgeot. Pidgeot was struggling to get up but couldn't, the tornado was starting to move pidgeot, and she tried to fight to stay out. That was when Ash had an idea.
"Pidgeot let it take you!" Ash yelled.
Everyone looked at Ash as if he was crazy, even Pidgeot. Ash and Pidgeot's eyes locked, words were not needed as Pidgeot knew the look in Ash's eyes, the look that said he had a plan. Pidgeot trusted Ash and put her faith in him, as she pulled in her wings and stopped fighting, being pulled into the twister.
"Now Pidgeot, adjust your wings, ride the wind and use it to pick up speed."
Pidgeot did as Ash said, and used the twister, allowing it to make her move faster than she had ever flown by her own strength.
"Dragonite stop her, use dragon pulse!" William yelled realizing Ash's plan.
"Now Pidgeot, brave bird!"
Pidgeot became engulfed in a light blue energy and slingshot herself at Dragonite, who opened her mouth and fired a turquoise beam of dragon shaped dragon energy right at Pidgeot.
Pidgeot was on a collision course with the dragon pulse, when they collided she continued forward through the dragon pulse. Every inch Pidgeot moved threw the dragon pulse hurt her, but she continued and endured, she knew this wasn't going to win this match, but knew this attack had a purpose. Pidgeot collided with Dragonite, creating a large explosion as she also knocked Dragonite off her feet. When the dust settled Dragonite was getting back on her feet, as Pidgeot was laying on the ground with swirly eyes.
"Pidgeot is unable to battle."
Ash returned Pidgeot and thanked her, he then looked over at Dragonite. Ash looked at Dragonite to see she was scratched up, and a little bruised, but still looked strong.
"Pika!" Pikachu yelled up at Ash.
"You ready to go back out there?" Ash asked.
Pikachu merely sparked his cheeks in response.
"Alright then, Pikachu I choose you!"
Pikachu ran into the battlefield, ready for his second battle.
"Battle resume."
"Pikachu electroweb."
"Dragonite, get rid of it with dragon claw then use dragon claw on Pikachu."
Pikachu created an orange-yellow ball of electricity on his tail, then flung it at Dragonite. Meanwhile Dragonite's claws started glowing green as she charged towards Pikachu. The orange-yellow ball expanded to a circular web, then Dragonite swiped her claws cutting through the web, then continued on to Pikachu.
"Pikachu dodge then use iron tail from above."
Dragonite swung with the dragon claw, then Pikachu jumped up and over the claw landing on Dragonite's arm. Then he proceeded to run up her arm, then jumped up as his tail started glowing white. As he made his descent Dragonite swung the dragon claw up.
"Pikachu don't counter the dragon claw, use the the force of the collision to launch yourself up even higher!"
Pikachu heard Ash, and when Dragonite tried to strike at him with dragon claw, he used his tail to push off and up into the air.
"Now Pikachu, iron tail and electroball together!"
Pikachu's tail glowed white as he began his descent, then his whole body glows yellow and sparks with electricity as the ball of electricity is formed on his tail.
"I don't think so, dragon pulse."
Dragonite opened her mouth and a turquoise beam of dragon shaped energy fired out towards Pikachu. Pikachu gave his body a twist, and narrowly dodged the attack. Pikachu was continuing to fall quickly, on a collision course for Dragonite's head.
"Dragon tail," said William, uncertain if the attack would connect.
Dragonite's tail became covered in green dragon energy as she swung her tail. However it was too late and missed as Pikachu continued slamming the iron electro ball into Dragonite's back. The was a large explosion covering the area in dust, as Pikachu flew out of the dust cloud and landed in his feet, breathing heavily, but ready to continue. A few seconds later enough of the dust was settled and Dragonite was pushing herself up off the ground. She was scratched up, clearly hurt by the attack.
"Pikachu electoweb!"
Once again the yellow-orange ball formed on Pikachu's tail as he ran in and swung his tail, launching the ball. The ball expanded into a round web, and this time hit Dragonite and held her down as it shocked her.
"Now Pikachu volt tackle!"
"Dragonite slam."
Pikachu took off running towards Dragonite as his body became engulfed in yellow electricity. He then slammed into Dragonite, creating another large explosion. As Pikachu was once again making his way out of the dust cloud, one of Dragonite's hands came out of the dust cloud and grabbed Pikachu.
"Pikachu thunderbolt!" Ash yelled.
Pikachu sparked with electricity as he sent the electricity through Dragonite's body. Dragonite cried out in pain from the attack, then glared at Pikachu. She then raised Pikachu up then slammed him into the ground, ending the thunderbolt and knocking him out.
Dragonite was breathing heavily as she walked away from Pikachu, showing that Pikachu did do some serious damage with his attacks. Ash walked over to Pikachu and picked him up in his arms. As he turned around to walk back to his trainers box he noticed Sylveon looking over the wall with a concerned look on her face. Ash then walked over to Sylveon and held Pikachu out to her.
"Do you mind taking care of him? I have a feeling he would like seeing you as soon as he regains conciseness," Ash said with a smile.
Sylveon blushed as she extended her feelers, wrapped them around Pikachu, and picked him up and laid him on the ground leaning against her.
Ash turned around and began to walk back to the trainers box, ready to finish this battle.
