Chapter Thirteen.
Poisonous: Ch. 13
"Yo."
The girl peered out into the doorway with a confused look on her face. "Who're you?" She asked. We held open our badges as she looked over them.
"I'm special agent Zanos Zhukarti and this," I pointed over to Alejandro who was next to me. "Is my partner, Alejandro Ivanov." He smirked when I said partner and I fought the urge to deck him in the balls.
"Why are you here?" She questioned and I smiled. "We just have some questions regarding your cousin Maria Sanchez." I said and she nodded, opening the door for us. "After you, my lady." Alejandro motioned for me to go in and I elbowed him in the chest. "Say that again and you'll be without a boyfriend." I threatened and he smirked.
The girl who was leading us to her living room was Madelyn Sanchez, Maria's cousin. Arielle wasn't lying when she said they could be twins. They both had the same long brown hair and blue eyes. They both had the same tanned skin and the same height.
She sat us down, offering us drinks but we declined.
"How would you describe your relationship with Maria?" Alejandro asked, wrapping his arm around me. This was not the time to be acting all affectionate. "Well in high school, I was bullied a lot because I was ya know, intersex." She began and I nodded. "Maria stood up for me and since everyone loved her at our school, they left me alone. She helped me get through the good and the bad times where I was struggling with depression because I thought no one would want me." She said, a tear falling down my face. "She told me that no matter what, she would always be there for me even when no one else wanted. She was like the best friend I've never had!" She let out a few tears, staring at me and I noticed something. There were four emotions in her eyes. Hurt, adoration, love and anger.
Now, why would she feel angered at the person who helped her when her hell overcame her heaven?
-
After Alejandro dropped me off back home, saying how he had some papers he wanted to look through, I decided to get some of my own work done. He wouldn't let me get out of the car until he planted a big kiss on my lips.
Needless to say, I ran inside my house.
I got stuck in thoughts and I didn't even hear my phone ringing. I hopped over the couch and picked it up off of the counter, looking in confusion at the caller ID.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Good afternoon, Zanos. This is Giselle." Giselle Miller was the medical examiner on this case. She would only call if she found something important.
"Yeah, what's up?"
She sighed as she was about to reveal a big bomb on me. "I was going through the remains of Maria's body and I found semen in her uterus," She began. "But the weird thing is that it was fused with DNA that belonged to a female. Why would sperm cells have female DNA in them?"
I bit my lip in thought. "So what are you saying?"
She smacked her lips. "The person whose responsible for this must be intersex or transgender." She finished and my eyes widened.
-
"Zanos, where are you going?" I sighed into the phone as I got into my car, pulling out of my driveway. "Places, man. Is that okay with you dad?" I rolled my eyes and he sucked in a breath. "Yes, I just wanted to spend some time with you."
I glared at the road. "Alejandro, you spend every single day with me." I huffed in annoyance. "I'm sure a couple of hours will do you just fine." I groaned. It was really weird trying out this whole dating thing with Alejandro, but I was willing to put up with him. I just didn't like how I didn't put up a fight.
I was currently heading to the hotel my sister was staying at. She had told me she came to visit so I was going to tell her that I was dating her ex-boyfriend.
Damn, that sounded like shit in my mind.
I didn't want Alejandro to come because I wanted to know the truth about what happened between them. I always knew something was amiss from the conversation we had that day and how she told me I was naive.
I didn't want him there because that would ruin my chances of her giving me the information that I wanted.
"But I love spending every minute with you." He groaned into the phone. "Shut up. I'll see you in two hours." I sighed, hanging up and throwing my phone onto the seat next to me. My sister knew I was coming and it wouldn't take me long to get to her.
In fact, the hotel Azure, was in direct line of my vision. When I had got there, I parked my car and got out. I had walked into the lobby, ignoring the lustful stares of women.
It would be so weird if they asked me out and I said, "sorry I have a boyfriend." Like, that's never come up in conversation before.
I walked up to the customer service and the lady smiled at me. "I'm Kira. How may I help you?" Jesus Christ, what is it with people being instantly attracted to me? "My sister Zeria Zhukarti is staying here. Can I have her room number?" I asked, handing her my license to confirm that we were related. She typed a few words on the computer before turning back to me. "She's in room 331." I nodded before descending in the direction of the elevators.
How ironic, 331 was the room of the hotel that I stayed in when we first came here. March 31st or 331, was the day that I first met Alejandro Ivanov. It was in kindergarten class and Alejandro was sitting in the corner all silent and no one wanted to go near him. He was in the 3rd grade, but he came to my class for being mean to another student. So me being me, I walked up to him and kicked him, telling that he couldn't make friends if he was so mean-looking then I walked away like a boss.
Okay, I tripped over a chair but who cares?
After that, he started following me around and declaring that I was his friend. I didn't care because we were little kids. He wouldn't have wanted to follow me around once we got older, I thought. But here we are 20 years later and he still followed me around.
Joy.
The elevator stopped at the 3rd floor and I got off, walking in the direction that the arrows on the wall told me to go. It didn't take long for me to find her room but when I did, I made a show.
"OPEN UP! ITS THE FUCKING FBI!" I banged on the door like a mad man. The door was pulled open and I smiled at the sight. Zeria Zhukarti knew she was beautiful with her long blond hair draped in curls, her crystal blue eyes and her porcelain skin, it was a wonder no one had fallen to her good looks.
"Well, hey there sister!" I walked into her room, looking around. "Got the grand suite, ain't expect nothing but." I winked at her and she rolled her eyes, shutting the door. "Do you have to make a scene every time you see me, Zanos?" She raised an eyebrow and I smirked. "Of course." I nodded affirmatively and she folded her arms, sitting next to me.
"What do you want, boy?" She asked and I sighed, looking at her. "Don't get mad at me please." I whispered and she tilted her head. "There's nothing you could do that would make me mad." She touched my face.
"Well, I'm sort of dating Alejandro now."
I winced, awaiting her slap but it never came. I opened one eye to see her smiling at me. "Okay. Why would I be mad?" Zeria asked with a grin on her face. "Well duh, I'm dating your ex-boyfriend." I said like it was obvious. "Oh Zanos, read between the lines." She smirked down at me like she was talking to a child. "We never liked each other in that way." She sighed, looking away. "I was a lesbian and he was gay. We only dated because we wanted to take our attention off the ones we loved." She said and I was confused.
"Why? Mom and dad don't care what you are. Why would you hide it from them?" She hadn't said who but I had a feeling it was them. "No, they already knew. It was you who didn't know." She confessed and my anger flew through the roof. "Why didn't I know? I wouldn't have cared if either of you were gay!" I stared at her in vain.
"It was Alejandro's idea.." She looked up at me and my heart stilled. "He started pretending to date me so he could see if it could lead to something with you. There was no mutual attraction, we were just simply friends." She responded but I was still confused. More confused than a motherfucker.
"Okay, if that was the case, why not just try talking to me about it? Maybe, I would've given him a chance." I looked at her with a weird look in my eye. There was something they still were not telling me and I intended to find out.
"He couldn't because it was all just a flux."
Come again?
