Chapter 3

Melody's POV

Dad didn't know I was here. I had told him I was going for a walk around town, which wasn't a lie, and the abandon manor caught my eye. I climbed the gate, and walked to the ivy covered building. I marveled at it's size. I walked past a couple of statues. They looked like angels covering their eyes. I paused to look at them, then went back to heading down the path to the manor. When I reached the door, I looked back. Was it me or were those statues closer than before?

I decided that my eyes were playing tricks on me. I went into the manor and marveled at the size inside. I climbed the stairs in front of me to the second landing. I looked back. One of the statues was in the door way. Only now, it's mouth was open, revealing pointy teeth. I ran down the hall, and looked back. Oh, god. Was that statue following me?

I found a room with a door still intact, shut it, and tried sonicing it shut. Then I remembered: sonic doesn't work on wood. I leaned against the door, hoping to block it, then I saw another statue. I was trapped.

I blinked, just once. When I opened my eyes, I saw the statue had moved closer. Its mouth was open, and it was no longer covering it's eyes. Those pointy teeth looked sharp. I did what anyone would have done in my shoes. I screamed and screamed...

And screamed.

Doctor's POV

I threw away the third broken chisel and looked at Jack. "I don't know how I'm going to get this off," I admitted.

"Salt?" he guessed.

"Only makes it grow more," I said.

"Fire?"

"Tried," I showed him my burns. He grimaced. "Nice."

"Other than that?" I asked. I looked at it, and ran my fingers over it. "It feels like stone," I commented. Then I was hit by an idea. "Jack, stay here!"

"Why?" he asked, but I was already out of the TARDIS.

I looked through the little stones by the TARDIS before I found what I needed. I raced back into the TARDIS, and rubbed the stone against the fungus. Several little bits of green flaked off the fungus. I rubbed harder. The fungus seemed to shrink away from the stone. I held a jar by the fungus and rubbed it into the jar. I shut it tight and said proudly, "Done."

"Nice, Doctor," said Jack. "Now to find Melody."

A picture of a manor appeared on the TARDIS's screen. I smiled. "The TARDIS found her."

Melody's POV

I stopped screaming and stared at the angels. My eyes watered, but I didn't take my eyes off of them. Suddenly, a hand grabbed mine. "Get out of here, but don't blink or turn your back," hissed Dad. I obeyed blindly, using the direction he was pulling me. Once we were out of the manor, we ran.

Once we reached the TARDIS, Dad pulled me into the bedroom and let it out on me: "Melody Piper you said you were going around town not exploring old manors what is wrong with you you don't know what could be there I am so disappointed in you blah blah blah..."

He didn't actually say the last bit but the speech was too long to completely write out. When he finished, he hugged me. "Don't do that again," he threatened.

"I'm sorry, Dad. What were those things?" I just had to ask.

"Sorry doesn't cut it. And as for those things, they're called Weeping Angels. They turn to stone once you look at them. They're deathly fast, like you saw. Once they touch you, you're transported back in time- far enough for you to die before or once you reach the time you left. They're scary things. And they're after the TARDIS."

I looked at the floor. "Did you do anything about the fungus?" I asked.

"Don't change the subject. Yes, I did. It's gone now. But that's not important. Stay away from the manor. No matter how tempting-and I know how tempting old isolated places are to you, Melody-the manor is, do not go there. Understand?"

I nodded. "Can you stop squishing my face into your chest? I can't breathe."

He let go. "Sorry. I've got to go check something."

I threw myself onto the bed. "Okay. I'll just read."

He nodded. "There's a good girl."
