Ok. This happened 2nd last period on Friday
In our religion class we had a harkness (class discussion) about "morality and laws" and our teacher wanted us to speak at least 3 times. Me, being an introvert with social anxiety and a soft voice, I don't like this rule. So our teacher split our class up in halves and the other half went yesterday. Of course, the other half of the class is the people who would actually build on the conversation. My group was mostly duds who spoke once or twice. So there were parts when it was dead silent and awkward, until someone finally stepped up to say something. Generally in these I wait for someone to make a good point and then I build on it, but since I didn't necessarily have too much to work with, it was hard to try to add to the conversation.
I got cut off trying to say something so many times, even by my teacher. He was behind me so he couldn't see the rage building on my face. It got to the point where (and I don't like doing this and I'm trying to break out of this habit) the rage turned into sadness. I started to cry a little bit, just a few tears. My teacher started to walk around the "circle" (since we couldn't move the tables because someone broke one yesterday, we were sitting in an oval-esque shape). So I was about to say something but then...
"Chris can you come here for a second?"
Are you kidding me?
He dragged me out of the conversation and pulled me aside. So he asks me if I'm ok, are you fine, etc. Those types of things. I said "yes" and "I'm fine". Of course it didn't help that my lip quivered every time I spoke. After maybe 30 seconds to a minute of repeating these responses, he let me go back into the conversation.
So I was gonna try to throw my response into the conversation but then while he was talking to me THEY CHANGED THE SUBJECT! So I couldn't say my response! Then our teacher starts adding in touchy subjects like abortion, gay marriage, incest, etc. to try to "spice it up" and so everyone is trying to give their opinion all at once and all you hear is a loud jumble of voices. For the most part the "spice it up" actually worked, but everyone has to give their opinion. So then he says "I haven't heard Chris in a while" and part of me is like "Finally" and another part is "Oh now do I get to speak?" So I say something along the lines of "different cultures have different traditions so we can't judge if this is morally wrong" or something about societies being different or whatever. I think that was my last time I needed to speak so I just sat back and listened.
Rip to anyone who still needed to speak- our teacher was trying to "push people" which was basically him asking one person, not the whole group, a bunch of questions. He singled out one of my friends and she was trapped into "uhh idk". Luckily, since I already spoke the required amount of times, this wasn't a problem for me, but it did bother me.
