The Numbers Game
*Trisha*
"Nate, what's going on??" We're just getting ready for a meeting to go over the production of his music video, and he gets a call from Paul. Paul never calls, which means this is urgent. And Bad.
"I can't fucking believe it. I need to get Julia." He paces the studio. "Oh my God. I need to go get her."
"Slow down. What happened?" I stand up. Nate is all out of sorts, to the point I wonder if he should even be behind the wheel. But I haven't gotten over my issues with driving and, hell, I don't really have a therapist now do it?
"Cancel the meeting, Trisha. I'm gonna have to drop you off at home and get Julia. And this time, it's not her fault. They put her in restraints!" He grabs his keys and wallet.
"Wait, WHAT?! Don't they know-"
"They sure as hell do" Nate cuts me off and we run out of the studio. While walking to the car I call off the meeting. Richard is pissed when he gets the call, but he'll just have to get over it.
"Nate. Remember. You need to stay calm. Never mind your heart... Remember your sister is there. No matter what is going on with Julia we both know The Avalon is the best place for Cara. You know you can't take care of her by herself. We learned that the hard way." I put my seatbelt on and give Nate a look waiting for him to do the same. He catches on to my anxiety and quickly pulls his seatbelt over him. Nate is already a crazy driver as it is, but whatever is happening at the Avalon has him so wound up it's ridiculous. We screech to a halt in the parking garage.
"Sorry, Trish. I'll explain later."
I quickly grab my stuff and get out of the car. I watch him speed out before heading upstairs. Why the hell would they put Julia in restraints after knowing what they know happened. I don't understand what's going on and I don't know what to tell James. He's gonna wonder why I'm home early, without Nate. He's not an idiot. He's gonna know this has something to do with Julia.

I insist on working out more, getting back to my old routine, so find a way to tell Jonah I'd like to go downstairs to the gym. Thank heavens it was Jonah and not Casey. She is awful at the guessing game. But Jonah catches on quick and lets me spend an hour lifting. It made me feel good. Normal. He helped me grasp the handheld weight and spotted me the whole time. Then helped me with the machines as well.
"You're doing really well, James. I'm impressed!" Jonah says. He lifts free weights while I'm on the shoulder press machine, knowing I don't need to be spotted for that. He takes care of his body. Not as built as me but he's taller so has a different body type all together. I don't know how he finds time to work out under the roof we live under, but I have a feeling Jonah doesn't sleep much and comes down here once things are calm at night.
Jonah talks a bit to me while working out. Nothing big but it all stops when Trisha texts him to let him know she's upstairs. We were almost done without training anyways so head right up to see why she's home early.
"Trisha, what's going on?" Jonah asks the second we get off the elevator.
"I'm not sure. But it's not good. Nate's a mess. He said, whatever happened it wasn't Julia's fault, and he is PISSED. Something about the Avalon putting her in restraints? I don't know." Trisha begins cooking. That's what he seems to do when she is stressed out. She cooks. We all benefit from it, so no one minds here.
I nervously sit down at the kitchen island while Trisha talks.
"Why the hell would they put her in restraints? Don't they know-" Casey chimes in, just coming out of the shower. she is always concerned about Julia. They are close. I find myself bouncing my knee nervously just like Julia does. Casey notices and sits next to me.
"I'm sure she's ok." Casey tries to convince me, but I know Trisha. When she is this wound up- it's something bad. Trisha's phone goes off and she immediately stops what she's doing and grabs it.
"Wait. What? What the hell is going on?" She sounds frantic and we all know it's Nate on the other line. "Shit. Yeah. Ok Ok. I'm on it." Trisha leaves the room and rushes to Nate's bedroom without telling anyone what's happening.
Not ten minutes later Nate, Paul and Julia come up the elevator. Julia is in Paul's arms literally passed out from crying. He looks like today was a rough day. I think hanging around Julia so much has rubbed off on Paul. He considers her family so when these things happen, Paul lets his guard down a little. Which is certainly not like him, and I've been working with him with the 4th floor for years.
"What happened?" Casey watches Paul bring sleeping Julia to the bedroom while Nate paces.
"This is fucking unreal." Nate starts right as one of my sisters buzz in. That's right. Kendall is coming to visit me. Frick. This is so not a good time. Nate lets her up and she can already feel the tension in the room.
Nate tells us everything. I'm so pissed off I can't contain it. out of frustration I swipe everything off the kitchen island in one shot and begin crying. Because there's nothing else I can do and I'm so mad. I quickly get to my room and cover my face with my arm. Both Kendall and Casey come in after me.
"Hey. James, it's ok. They will figure it out. Nate said Trisha scheduled an appointment with his lawyer. I'm sure they will get down to the bottom of this." Casey says while I sit on my couch and freak out.
"This place is so stressful for him. This isn't a good environment for James to recover in." Kendall blurts out. I glare at my youngest sister. She's kidding me right now, right?
"It's not usually this bad." Casey looks over at me and catches on this not being the best time.
"But it is. Every time I come here it's something. And it's always Julia. James, you're not even with her. Yet you're still dealing with her drama. Why don't you just go back home. We can figure out how to care for you. You're already getting so much better. I bet you could live alone now-"
"I'm sorry, but I disagree with you." Casey chimes in like I need her to.
"Kendall, I know where you're coming from. Believe me, we all want James to be able to go back to his old life. To his home. But he is nowhere near ready. He still needs a lot of help, and Julia is the one that takes the best care of him. He doesn't let anyone else do it but her."
"James, you need to move on with your life." Kendall disregards what Casey is trying to say to her and keeps going with her one-track mind.
I have a feeling all my sisters have been talking about this for a while. Kendal is the most vocal one of my sisters, so I'm not surprised she is the one talking to me about this.
But this is SO, not what I need right now.
