Can't Give Up
*Trisha*
After we get all of the hospital supplies to Nate's apartment, I order a bunch of pizzas and sodas for when the Gallo girls come over. I know they all want to spend time with their brother. They fill Nate's home with laughter, and even though I know James looks so confused, he is happy to see everyone. Everyone is eating and enjoying each other's company. Nate and Julia come out of James's room after a while, and Nate looks overwhelmed at the number of women in his living room right now. I smirk at him, and he shakes his head at me, especially when the dog starts running around excitedly.
I find it funny that of all people, that damn dog loves Nate. She follows him around wherever he goes, looking for his attention. He tries to play like he doesn't like having the thing around, but I can tell he does. He'll never admit it, but he does.
Boxes and boxes of takeaway pizzas and bottles of soda take over the kitchen island. Jonah is in his room getting some sleep while Casey sits next to James in his wheelchair.
He looks confused. You can tell in his eyes all this is a lot for him. He sits there and watches everyone talking around him with a blank expression, but the moment he spots Julia, a wave of relief washes over him, and his mouth curves up to the slightest smile.
Nate wheels Julia next to James, and he looks down at her hands. When she takes his hand and holds it, he nods and smiles at her. Like she could read his mind and knew exactly what he wanted.
I nod to Paul, letting him know it's probably time to leave now. But Nate catches me before I can sneak out.
"Hey, before you go. Can we talk about what you said earlier? To Julia about-"
"Not tonight, ok Playboy? Not tonight." I shake my head and fix a strand of hair that fell down Nate's forehead while I talk.
"Someday. Just not tonight. I'll be back tomorrow to help with whatever anyone needs. I'll pick up coffee for everyone. Ok?"
"Thanks, Trish."
"Enjoy.... all this. " I look around at the chaos, and Paul laughs. We both know this is SO not Nate's idea of a night at home.
"God, if this all doesn't drive Nate crazy, nothing will." I joke to my bodyguard in the elevator.
"Seriously." Paul smirks, and we both share a silent laugh over it. Once outside, I quickly beat Paul to the passengers side.
"You need help." He shakes his head at me when I don't want to drive.
"Yeah, well, the help I was gonna get was from Dr. Donovan and that sure as hell isn't happening now." I sigh and buckle my seatbelt, making sure Paul does as well.
"You really don't remember, do you?" Paul starts the engine but then turns to me before driving off.
"What... Why are you looking at me like that?" I cock an eyebrow at him.
"Trisha.."
"Paul...." I mimic. What is he trying to say here?
"I know about what happened to you."
All the color drains from my face.
"Paul, what are you talking about.." I feel nauseous now. My stomach is tied in a tight knot and my palms are clammy.
"Trisha. You don't remember? God, you really WERE drunk."
"Paul. what the hell are you talking about? I don't drink, your delusional."
Shit.
FUCK.
My eyes widen and I cover my mouth with my hand. Tears instantly stream down my face.
FUCK!
"Oh my God." I stare ahead. I stare ahead in shock. I did tell him. My heart is pounding hard now and I remember everything. I was so drunk. But I remember.
"It was the last time you ever touched alcohol. You told me everything. It was the second to the last night of the tour. We were in Amsterdam."
I close my eyes and cry.
"Ok. Stop. Please.." I cover my face with my hands.
"You said you were gonna tell someone. Trish, you said you were gonna tell Nate."
I swallow hard. I couldn't bring myself to do it. I wasn't as drunk as I thought.
"And you still took him back." Paul continues.
"Ok, I get it. Paul. Drive. Just drive Paul."
And he does.
And I cry the entire way home.
