2/18/21 - waking up from your dream
so this is what forgetting you
feels like
I thought it would hurt
when the white-out dried
when it tightened and settled
crusty
blank
instead it's like paper
pulled fresh from the ream
its silky flesh curled
up in my typewriter
poised
blank
it feels like nothing
it feels new
forgetting you
was that blue balloon
who slipped through my fingers
forgetting you
was the ball on the horizon
who washed further and further
into lake michigan, no matter
how many times we cried out, "Wilson!"
it feels like
that moment between sleep
and awareness
when the dreamworld gallops away
when the faces seep through my eyes
and stream from my mind
faster than my stumbling feet can follow
it feels like that space where
the dream used to be
it feels hollow
blank
so this is what you meant when
you said I'd be okay
who knew it would be
so easy
