In Memory of this day...
Over seven decades since our tryst with destiny,
Today, we reap its fruits.
Sitting at home, basking in luxury,
This day, we remember out roots.
Luxury I speak of; not of riches.
The line is faint, but there.
The luxury we have is to stand with pride
And claim our heritage fair!
Hundreds died those years ago.
Many still die today.
They sacrificed their peerless lives
So that we can live to see this day.
Our tears cannot repay their blood.
Memory will fall to time's ravine.
A fitting way to honour this debt
Is to give back to this country we call 'mine'.
For every one that meets the grave,
A ten will take that place,
For in every countryman's throbbing heart,
This land holds a special place.
I'm an Indian, we proudly state
Beneath the flag that flutters high.
Heart swelling, tears brimming,
Our anthem resounds beneath the sky
That's a humble blue but tinted gold;
The rays of hope shining
As our nation and people rise as one,
In the face of success, smiling.
A/N: A very Happy Independence Day to all you Indians out there! If anyone's country also celebrates its independence today, by all means, the wishes are extended to you and your people as well!
