Fifty-one
Dandelion
Look at yourself
Look in the mirror
What do you see?
I know what you will say
"I see a person of average looks"
"I see a person with okay grades"
"I see a person who knows a little"
"I see a person who has opinions"
I know what you will not say
"I see a person of great beauty"
"I see a person of immense intelligence"
"I see a person of many talents"
"I see a person who has changed lives"
But all this is true
What you do not see
Is what the rest of the world sees
You are a dandelion
You see tangled roots and frail petals
We see a strong stem and a bright blossom
You are a dandelion
You see your weaknesses as your worst points
When your petals are replaced with gray seeds
We see those weaknesses as luck
As those gray seeds scatter, they give us hope
We wish upon them
We don't wish for nothing
You are a dandelion
You believe that only a field makes a difference
That only a field can be beautiful
We know that one blossom
One petal
One seed
Is enough to grow an entire field
You are a dandelion
Beautiful
Strong
Brave
Intelligent
Kind
Creative
Loving
In the eyes of others
One person's views
Cannot change that
One person
May bring you down
But there are hundreds
Who will bring you back up
One person
Is not enough
Unless that one person
Is you
A/N: I wrote this as a response to a poem that my friend wrote (it's in her book Abstract if you want to check it out, it's called Shadows, I highly recommend it). But this also applies to everyone. If you ever feel bad about who you are, know that you can change the world. Know that so many people see you as intelligent, kind, brave, beautiful, and so many other characteristics. And if one person tries to bring you down, know that one person will never be enough to change who you are.
One person can change the world. But one person cannot change you.
