Too Cold
TOO COLD
I feel the chill as I stand in the corridor.
My skin was like ice to the warmest touch.
My hands turned blue, then an ugly purple too.
On duty they said I had to be, so what I said.
My knees knocked so hard that I couldn't stand still.
My whole body shivered with the cold air.
Now I know why no one else wanted to be there.
I wasn't allowed to wear my warm winter coat.
So I stood there, freezing, like a block of ice.
The cold was just too cold to bear.
